County Down (named after its county town, Downpatrick) is one of six counties that form Northern Ireland, situated in the northeast of the island of Ireland. Adjoined to the southeast shore of Lough Neagh, the county covers an area of 2,448 km² (945 sq mi) and has a population of about 531,665. It is also one of the thirty-two traditional counties of Ireland and is within the province of Ulster.
The county was archaically called Downshire. It borders County Antrim to the north, the Irish Sea to the east and south, County Armagh to the west, and County Louth across Carlingford Lough to the southwest. In the east of the county is Strangford Lough and the Ards Peninsula. The largest town is Bangor, on the northeast coast. Three other large towns and cities are on its border: Newry lies on the western border with County Armagh, while Lisburn and Belfast lie on the northern border with County Antrim. Down contains both the southernmost point of Northern Ireland (Cranfield Point) and the easternmost point of Ireland (Burr Point).
A county, abbreviated Cnty. (US) or Co. (UK and Ireland), is a geographical region of a country used for administrative or other purposes, in certain modern nations. The term is derived from the Old French conté or cunté denoting a jurisdiction under the sovereignty of a count (earl) or a viscount. The modern French is comté, and its equivalents in other languages are contea, contado, comtat, condado, Grafschaft, graafschap, Gau, etc. (cf. conte, comte, conde, Graf).
When the Normans conquered England, they brought the term with them. The Saxons had already established the districts that became the historic counties of England, calling them shires (many county names derive from the name of the county town with the word "shire" added on: for example, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire). The Vikings introduced the term earl (from Old Norse, jarl) to the British Isles. Thus, "earl" and "earldom" were taken as equivalent to the continental use of "count" and "county". So the later-imported term became a synonym for the native English word scir ([ʃiːr]) or, in Modern English, shire. Since a shire was an administrative division of the kingdom, the term "county" evolved to designate an administrative division of national government in most modern uses.

From their An Irish Heartbeat album (1988). Near Banbridge town, in the County Down One morning in July Down a boreen green came a sweet colleen And she smiled as she passed me by. She looked so sweet from her two white feet To the sheen of her nut-brown hair Such a coaxing elf, I'd to shake myself To make sure I was standing there. From Bantry Bay up to Derry Quay And from Galway to Dublin town No maid I've seen like the sweet colleen That I met in the County Down. As she onward sped I shook my head And I gazed with a feeling rare And I said, says I, to a passerby "Who's the maid with the nut-brown hair?" He smiled at me, and with pride says he, "That's the gem of Ireland's crown. She's young Rosie McCann from the banks of the Bann She's the star of the County Down." From Bantry Bay u...

Sun up, Sun Down is a timelapse film that follows the course of a day. From first light at sunrise, though to last light at sunset and then on into night time, this film explores the relationship between light, motion and shape within nature. The film was shot entirely in the rural county of Wiltshire, England. As my home county, the diverse Wiltshire landscape is constantly a source of inspiration for my photography. Individual locations include Roundway Downs, the Vale of Pewsey and Morgan's Hill although the majority of the timelapses feature little known woodlands, hills and fields that cover the county. Shot over 3 months the film is made up of over 6000 still photographs, edited together in Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC. See more of my photography on my website: www.tnpc.c...
BLOG POST HERE: http://wp.me/p3ggTR-87D Filmed at "Giant's Causeway" in County Antrim, Northern Ireland on the Blackmagic 4K. Hence the title of this piece! Shot at ISO 200,400,800 except the 800 shots I had to leave out because of issues with the image quality. Lots of speckles on it plus the noise is quite ugly at that point. Lenses were the Sigma 18-35 F1.8, Tamron 24-70 F2.8 and Canon 70-200 F4 IS L. Tripod was the Really Right Stuff 5 stage carbon fibre and the new and rather nice, but pricey FH-350 head. Zacuto rig and V-Mount battery set up as detailed on my blog post. The first day I used just the back screen, nightmare. Impossible to judge. Second day was with the Small HD DP7 Pro OLED...SO MUCH EASIER!! Much this isn't that portable and it's quite heavy. Shot in 25p with...
A film by Peter Bill Sponsored by the Grant County Trails Group Made possible by Community Enhancement Fund Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold Foundation and Grant County Community Health Council Walking trails has always been important to me. From growing up walking old Quinnipiac trails back in Connecticut, to Hiking in the Boy scouts and at Reed College in Oregon- I think I came to understand who I am on a trail. I am not a fast walker, I always stop to smell the roses or watch the clouds. A few years back I had complications from surgery, and one and half of my two lungs collapsed! Slowly I rehabilitated, going for long walks, first on the flats, then venturing into the hills. Gradually my lungs got stronger, and my strength returned. Fast or slow, walking helps you think, and ...

Well, here is the last in the series. I got backed up with work and it took a lot longer to finish this than I was hoping. Real nostalgic feel to this one. That winter light with the sun going down, seems like I can feel the crusade coming to an end. The song is Lady In the Water by Blitzen Trapper. Thanks again for all the nice comments from everybody! Wish I could have gotten to all the races but there is always next year. See you Cross Crusaders...

How do you say it's over
And still be friends? Oh yeah
We got so much in common
I just can't be her man
Can't be her man, no, no
I love her but I'm not in love
She's got my child
She's got my thing
She's got my baby
But she can be so vindictive
What am I gonna do now?
What am I gonna do now? Yeah
Sometimes I just wanna throw up my hands
But that's not the real manly thing to do, oh no, no, no, no, no
Sometimes I just wanna give up and quit to here within
What about my child? What about my child?
No matter how hard I try to do right
I can't win if I'm losing, no, I can't win if I'm losing
My heart means well but I always doubt
And I can't win if I'm losing, no way I can't win, I can't win
No matter what's [Incomprehensible]
It's always in the wrong direction, direction, direction
Mo matter how close I come
To getting it right is never perfection, no way, no how, no
How many burns and bruises
Can you take before it looks like a chicao? Oh no
And how many hearts and promises
Must you break before you leave it alone?
Let it go, let it go, let it go
Sometimes I just wanna throw up my hands
But that's not the real manly thing to do, oh no, no, no
Sometimes I just wanna give up and quit to here within
What about my child? What about my child?
No matter how hard I try to do right
I can't win if I'm losing, oh no, no, no, no, no
No, no, no, no, no, no
My heart mean well but I always doubt
I can't win if I'm losing
Just wanna throw my hands up
In the air and say forget, it babe
No matter how hard I try to do right
I can't win if I'm losing
My heart means well but I always doubt
I can't win if I'm losing
I can't win, I can't win
I can't win, I can't win if I'm losing
I can't win, I can't win
I can't win, I can't win if I'm losing
I can't win, I can't win
I can't win, I can't win if I'm losing
I can't win, I can't win
I can't win, I can't win if I'm losing
Said no matter how hard I try to do right
I can't if I'm for losing
My heart means well but I always doubt
I can't win if I'm losing
No matter how hard I try to do right
I can't win if I'm losing
