RTÉ One (Irish: RTÉ a hAon) is the flagship television channel of Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ), and it is the most popular and most watched television channel in Ireland. It was launched as Telefís Éireann on 31 December 1961, it was renamed RTÉ Television in 1966, and it was renamed as RTÉ 1 upon the launch of RTÉ 2 in 1978. RTÉ is funded partly by the licence fee; the remainder of the funding is provided by commercial advertising. Because RTÉ is funded partly by the licence fee it shows considerably fewer advertisements than most other channels available in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
RTÉ One is available to 98% of the Irish population in High Definition on the Saorview DTT service. It is carried on all the digital television services in the Republic of Ireland such as Sky Ireland, Virgin Media Ireland and Magnet Networks. It is also available in Northern Ireland via Saorview overspill, the UK Freeview service, satellite provider Sky, and cable provider Virgin Media. The channel is also available online through RTÉ Live.

Inspired by European folk paper craft art and découpages folk artists – a blue paper forest diorama was designed to act as a winter wonderland for the channel identity. Hills, trees, fences, decorations were all carefully cut out and constructed to create layers of depth and distance in the scene. Individual frames for animated sequences were cut out of paper, and the scene was lit and prepared for a rostrum rig shoot. Stop frame photography and effects were used to bring it all to life and further post production was completed on the animated sequences. The paper craft look was also applied to promo end boards, and various on-air channel promo graphics.

Ok, this is basically a few of the Intersitials (those little one second reminders that pop on between ads to remind you which station you're watching) I did for the recent rebrand of RTE Two. RTÉ Endboards When RTÉ corporate were rebranding I saw an opportunity to update the RTÉ copyright endboard that attaches to the end of every programme. It was badly needed. We wanted to create something classy that could fit across all the RTÉ programmes from news & current affairs, sport, comedy, drama, young people's and so on. There was no audio due to the fact that there could be an already existing track playing out from the programme. With so many independent production companies and funding boards producing programming for RTÉ the project also required that the endboards could deal with many different options of logos and legal copyright. It also had to be easily updateable so that outside facilities could update their versions while keeping it on brand, an issue we'd run into w...
This is another ident I worked on for RTE Two's recent rebrand. I pretty much worked on all of this one appart from compositing, that'd be Morten Vinther (crazy cat). Curious spiders come across a mobile phone that has recently fallen into their web. Fireflies are attracted to the light and later on the Venus "ghost traps" the crap out of those suckers. I assure you, it all makes perfect sense. Work completed at Piranhabar http://www.piranhabar.ie Check out more of my bits at: http://ww.rightpsyche.com

Is it a crime to want to be happy in a sick, sick world
If it's the fool who believes in forgiveness, I'm a sick, sick girl
I long to cry on someone's shoulder
To receive a friend's absolution
And I think I know that look I've seen it before
I think you're pitying me
And if you need an emotional score
Then I will be your emotional whore
And when I spit you out at last
You'll understand, try to understand
When is the time to give into mercy and walk from the pain
Where is the will to yearn for out freedom and break the chains
I long to fall into your slumber
You long to slowly pull me under
And I think you know me well, far too well
Too well for my own good
Is it a crime to want to be happy in a sick, sick world
I'm a sick, sick girl
And if you need an emotional score
Then I will be your emotional whore
And when I spit you out at last
