The Nucleus: Crash Course Chemistry #1
Hank does his best to convince us that chemistry is not torture, but is instead the amazing and beautiful science of stuff. Chemistry can tell us how three tiny particles - the proton, neutron and electron - come together in trillions of combinations to form ... everything. In this inaugural episode of Crash Course Chemistry, we start out with one of the biggest ideas in chemistry ever - stuff is made from atoms. More specifically, we learn about the properties of the nucleus and why they are important to defining what an atom actually is.

---TRANSCRIPT---
Thanks for stopping by, this is 2 minute classroom and today we are talking about the structure and function of the nucleus.
The nucleus sits in the center of eukaryotic cells and houses the DNA. It protects your genetic information and directs the synthesis of ribosomes and the expression of your genes. It’s also the location of transcription and DNA replication. You can think of it as the brain of the cell.
The nucleus has a very distinct structure.
It’s surrounded by a double membrane called the nuclear envelope which contains special nuclear pores through which ribosomes and RNA exit. This nuclear envelope protects the DNA from nuclease enzymes in the cell whose job it is to destroy nucleotides, and you don’t want your DNA destroyed. The DNA never leaves the nucleus for the same reason.
Within the nucleus there is a dark region called the nucleolus. This area is densely packed with RNA and proteins and is the location of ribosome assembly among other functions. Ribosomes have a big impact on cellular processes and I’ll create a separate video about ribosomes and link it here when it’s ready.
The nucleolus sits in the nucleoplasm, which encompasses the reamining contents of the nucleus. This is where the DNA is located. When the cell is getting ready to divide, the DNA forms chromosomes, these are structures you may be familiar with. Humans have 46 chromosomes in each cell.
However, most of the time the DNA is not in this chromosome structure, but is called chromatin, with the DNA being less compact and wrapped around special histone proteins.
If you are student interested in saving time in your studies, consider subscribing and hitting the bell to keep up with my content.
Here is a test prep playlist and some other videos you may enjoy. Thanks for watching, and I’ll catch you next time.

Cell parts and function-I have always heard that the nucleus is the brain of the cell. But why is it the brain, and what are the major parts of the nucleus?
The nucleus is a large organelle. In fact, you can see the nucleus with a compound microscope.
Here it is inside a cheek cell.
I’m going to look at four main components of a nucleus and the role each part plays.
The nucleus is surrounded by a nuclear membrane. It is very similar to the cell membrane, and it is composed of two layers. It protects and houses the other parts of the nucleus.
You can also find ribosomes on the outside of the nuclear membrane.
Up next are nuclear pores. These are openings found on the nuclear membrane.
They allow items to move in and out of the nucleus. An example would be the mrna. It would travel through a nuclear pore to leave the nucleus.
Nucleoplasm This is a gel-like material found inside the nuclear membrane. You will find the DNA suspended in the nucleoplasm
Nucleolus. This is almost like a nucleus inside the nucleus. It has a very high concentration of DNA,
It is also the site of transcription which is the starting point of protein synthesis.
This is how the nucleus controls the cell. It has all the information on how to make stuff like proteins inside the cell. These proteins are used for many purposes inside the cell.
Ribosomes are also made at the nucleolus
All eukaryotic cells have a nucleus and bacteria and other prokaryotic cells do not have a nucleus.

Syllables and Word Stress - English Pronunciation Lesson
In this lesson, you can learn about syllables and stress in English.
Do you know what stress means? It’s one of the most important pronunciation points in English.
When you speak English, do other people find it difficult to understand what you’re saying? If so, you might not be using stress correctly.
Pronouncing words with the correct stress can make a big difference to your English: your English will immediately sound clearer and more natural.
NOTE: there is an error at 1:41 – the stress marker in the IPA transcription of 'banana' should be on the 2nd syllable, rather than the 1st: /bə'nɑːnə/.
Continue working on your pronunciation, and get feedback from a certified English teacher. Try a lesson today: http://bit.ly/ooe-teachers.

What is a Syllable? | Open and Closed Syllables | Kids Academy
There are total of 6 types of syllables out there and if you are about to start teaching your little one about syllables then we’d recommend you to start with the open syllables and the closed syllables.
It’s just that these are easier to understand and your kid will learn quite fast. Not only this, in fact, after learning these two types, your kid will be able to speak a hundred different words.
For starters, you need to tell your children what is a syllable. It basically is a unit of pronunciation that comes with a single vowel only. For more details, you can refer to the internet and watch videos on Youtube that tell everything you need to know about a syllable.
Open Syllables:
In an open syllable, nothing comes after the vowel and the word ends right at the vowel. For example, the word “he” is an open syllable as nothing is coming after the vowel “e”. Also, in this case, the vowel is long.
Closed Syllables:
In this case, there comes a consonant after the vowel. In a nutshell, when we talk about a closed syllable, know that the vowel is closed with a consonant in the end. For example, there’s the word “cap” and “men”. You can see that in both these words the vowel is closed with the consonant “p” and “n”.
We hope you now understand the difference between both types. So, teach your kids about these two types and then move towards the other ones so that they can have a better understanding of what syllables are.
The wiser thing to do would be to watch Youtube videos and teach your children about vowels and syllables etc from there because that way, they will pick things up quicker.
