Overton Vertis "O. V." Wright (October 9, 1939 — November 16, 1980)[1] was an American singer who is regarded as one of Southern soul's most authoritative and individual artists.[2] His best known songs are "That's How Strong My Love Is" (1964), "You're Gonna Make Me Cry" (1965), "Nucleus of Soul" (1968), "A Nickel and a Nail" (1971), "I Can't Take It" (1971) and "Ace of Spades (song)" (1971).

Born in Leno, Tennessee, Wright, as a youngster, began singing in the church and later fronted a gospel music group, the Harmony Echoes. It was during this time that he was discovered (along with James Carr) by Roosevelt Jamison a songwriter and manager. Their first pop recording in 1964 was "That's How Strong My Love Is", a ballad later covered by Otis Redding and the Rolling Stones. It was issued on Goldwax, the label Wright signed to after leaving his gospel career. It was later determined that Don Robey still had him under a recording contract, due to his gospel group having recorded for Peacock. After his contract was shifted to Don Robey's Back Beat label, further R&B; hits followed. Working with record producer Willie Mitchell, success continued on songs including "The Ace of Spades" and "A Nickel and a Nail".
Wright's hits were much more popular in the deep South. His biggest hits were "You're Gonna Make Me Cry" (R&B; #6, 1965), "Eight Men, Four Women" (R&B; #4, 1967) "Ace Of Spades" (R&B; #11, 1970), "A Nickel and A Nail" (R&B; #19, 1971). The remainder of his 17 hits charted higher than #20 on the R&B; charts.
However, Wright was imprisoned for narcotics offences during the mid-1970s, and, despite signing for Hi Records and releasing a series of recordings, his commercial success failed to recover after his release. A continuing drug problem weakened his health and he died from a heart attack, in Mobile, Alabama at age 41.[1]

Wright is among the most remembered voices of soul music, perhaps mostly for being sampled frequently in hip hop music. More recently, his song, "Motherless Child" was sampled on the Ghostface Killah album Ironman on a song also called "Motherless Child." It and another Wright recording, "Let's Straighten It Out" have been published on Shaolin Soul, a compilation of tracks that have been sampled by the Wu Tang Clan and its members. "Let's Straighten It Out" was sampled in a Wu-Tang Clan song called "America" from the charity compilation album America Is Dying Slowly. "Ace of Spades" was sampled by Slim Thug and the Boss Hogg Outlawz on a song named "Recognize A Playa".
Johnny Rawls joined Wright's backing band in the mid 1970s, and played together with Wright until the latter's death in 1980. The band then continued billed as the O.V. Wright Band for another 13 years, and toured and performed with other musicians over this time span. These included B.B. King, Little Milton, Bobby Bland, Little Johnny Taylor, and Blues Boy Willie.[3]

We found out at our routine 20 week scan our baby girl had a heart condition. Later confirmed at a ECHO (heart) scan at Newcastle RVI she had only half a heart, a rare CHD (congenital heart defect) called HLHS (Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome) and by 30 weeks into pregnancy it developed into the rarest form of it as she also developed IAS (Intact Atrial Septum).

Girl
A girl is a female human from birth through childhood and adolescence to attainment of adulthood when she becomes a woman. The term girl may also be used to mean a young woman, and is often used as a synonym for daughter.
Etymology
The English word girl first appeared during the Middle Ages between 1250 and 1300 CE and came from the Anglo-Saxon words gerle (also spelled girle or gurle). The Anglo-Saxon word gerela meaning dress or clothing item also seems to have been used as a metonym in some sense.
Girl has meant any young unmarried woman since about 1530. Its first noted meaning for sweetheart is 1648. The earliest known appearance of girl-friend is in 1892 and girl next door, meant as a teenaged female or young woman with a kind of wholesome appeal, dates only to 1961.
Usage for adults
The word girl is sometimes used to refer to an adult female, usually a younger one. This usage may be considered derogatory or disrespectful in professional or other formal contexts, just as the term boy can be considered disparaging when applied to an adult man. Hence, this usage is often deprecative. It can also be used deprecatively when used to discriminate against children ("you're just a girl").

Hi Records
Hi Records was an American soul music and rockabilly label started in Memphis, Tennessee in 1957 by singer Ray Harris, record store owner Joe Cuoghi, Bill Cantrell and Quinton Claunch (formerly producers for Sun Records), and three silent partners, including Cuoghi's lawyer, Nick Pesce.
Hi Records' first big hit was "Smokie Part 2", an instrumental by Bill Black's Combo in 1959. Black was a bass player with Elvis Presley and a long-time friend of Ray Harris. Founder Claunch was forced out of the label, selling his share in 1960 to Carl McVoy (a cousin of Jerry Lee Lewis), who had been involved with the label since its first recording and had worked with Bill Black. Willie Mitchell joined the label that year as a recording artist. He later went on to produce Al Green in 1968. Bill Black's saxophonist, Ace Cannon, landed a hit with the single "Tuff" in 1961.
Hi Records' commercial peak was in the 1960s and 1970s, widely due to the innovative and highly successful work of Al Green. Other artists on the label, including O. V. Wright and Ann Peebles, did not reach the same level of success. In 1970, when founder Joe Cuoghi died and Ray Harris retired, Nick Pesce became president and Willie Mitchell was made vice-president.

Back Beat Records
Back Beat Records was an American record label launched in 1957 as the Houston-based soul sub-label of Duke Records, when it was run by Don Robey. Back Beat was acquired by ABC Records in the 1970s. The label's biggest hits included "Treat Her Right" by Roy Head & The Traits, "Tell Me Why" by Norman Fox & The Rob-Roys, and "Everlasting Love" by Carl Carlton. In 1976, ABC discontinued the Back Beat label.
There are many records from the Back beat label that found fame but not fortune, as the records are part of the underground movement known as Northern Soul. Carl Carlton probably recorded the most tracks that fall into the Northern Soul sound.

Born in Leno, Tennessee, Wright, as a youngster, began singing in the church and later fronted a gospel music group, the Harmony Echoes. It was during this time that he was discovered (along with James Carr) by Roosevelt Jamison a songwriter and manager. Their first pop recording in 1964 was "That's How Strong My Love Is", a ballad later covered by Otis Redding and the Rolling Stones. It was issued on Goldwax, the label Wright signed to after leaving his gospel career. It was later determined that Don Robey still had him under a recording contract, due to his gospel group having recorded for Peacock. After his contract was shifted to Don Robey's Back Beat label, further R&B; hits followed. Working with record producer Willie Mitchell, success continued on songs including "The Ace of Spades" and "A Nickel and a Nail".
Wright's hits were much more popular in the deep South. His biggest hits were "You're Gonna Make Me Cry" (R&B; #6, 1965), "Eight Men, Four Women" (R&B; #4, 1967) "Ace Of Spades" (R&B; #11, 1970), "A Nickel and A Nail" (R&B; #19, 1971). The remainder of his 17 hits charted higher than #20 on the R&B; charts.
However, Wright was imprisoned for narcotics offences during the mid-1970s, and, despite signing for Hi Records and releasing a series of recordings, his commercial success failed to recover after his release. A continuing drug problem weakened his health and he died from a heart attack, in Mobile, Alabama at age 41.[1]

Wright is among the most remembered voices of soul music, perhaps mostly for being sampled frequently in hip hop music. More recently, his song, "Motherless Child" was sampled on the Ghostface Killah album Ironman on a song also called "Motherless Child." It and another Wright recording, "Let's Straighten It Out" have been published on Shaolin Soul, a compilation of tracks that have been sampled by the Wu Tang Clan and its members. "Let's Straighten It Out" was sampled in a Wu-Tang Clan song called "America" from the charity compilation album America Is Dying Slowly. "Ace of Spades" was sampled by Slim Thug and the Boss Hogg Outlawz on a song named "Recognize A Playa".
Johnny Rawls joined Wright's backing band in the mid 1970s, and played together with Wright until the latter's death in 1980. The band then continued billed as the O.V. Wright Band for another 13 years, and toured and performed with other musicians over this time span. These included B.B. King, Little Milton, Bobby Bland, Little Johnny Taylor, and Blues Boy Willie.[3]

We found out at our routine 20 week scan our baby girl had a heart condition. Later confirmed at a ECHO (heart) scan at Newcastle RVI she had only half a heart, a rare CHD (congenital heart defect) called HLHS (Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome) and by 30 weeks into pregnancy it developed into the rarest form of it as she also developed IAS (Intact Atrial Septum).
