In music, a major scale and a minor scale that have the same tonic are called parallel keys and are said to be in a parallel relationship. The parallel minor or tonic minor of a particular major key is the minor key based on the same tonic; similarly the parallel major has the same tonic as the minor key. For example, G major and G minor have different modes but both have the same tonic, G; so we say that G minor is the parallel minor of G major. In contrast, a major scale and a minor scale that have the same key signature (and therefore different tonics) are called relative keys.
A major scale can be transformed to its parallel minor by flattening the third, sixth, and seventh scale degrees, and a minor scale can be transformed to its parallel major by sharpening those same scale degrees.
In the early nineteenth century, composers began to experiment with freely borrowing chords from the parallel key.
To the Western ear, the switch from a major key to its parallel minor sounds like a fairly simplistic "saddening" of the mood (while the opposite sounds like a "brightening"). This change is quite distinct from a switch to the relative minor. Classical pieces in sonata allegro form in a minor key have their second theme in the relative major in the exposition, but the second theme comes back in the original minor key in the recapitulation. This is unique to the form, and allows the composer to state a given theme in both major and minor modes. Later it also became common to state the second theme in the tonic major in the recapitulation, with or without a later return to the minor.

Similar to relative key, parallel key is about the movement between major and minor keys. This allows you to switch the mood of your song at any time by changing the tonic chord from major to minor (light to dark) or vice versa (dark to light), creating more interest and emotional depth in your music. This video looks at how you can approach such a change, by using "pivot chords" and borrowing chords from the parallel key to "prepare" the change into a new key. By combining this method with other types of modulation, you're songwriting creativity will be freer and richer, allowing you to take the listener on a journey, rather than through the same predictable cycle of chords...

In this debut issue of Songwriting Tips w/ Vincent Vinturi (that's me), you're going to learn how to switch between the parallel major and parallel minor key of a song. The song I'm using to illustrate this technique for you is the Beatles' "Norwegian Wood". The song starts off in the key of D major and sounds happy and upbeat until the song suddenly switches to the key of D minor, which in this case totally shifts the emotional trajectory of the song. It's like John Lennon i...

Time to mill the 4 keyways in the new gearbox shaft. I start off by tramming in the vertical milling head using the Edge Technology Pro-Tram. Theres a total of 4 keyways to machine in the shaft, and two of them are 180* apart from each other. I show one of the tricks I use to align the two keys using a shaper gage. I also show using an adjustable parallel to measure keyway width.
Time Travel Documentary - Theory and conspiracy about Time Travel in the Holographic Multiverse Alfred Lambremont Webre explains how time travel and teleportation are real and have been used by the planet elite for at least 40 years to control our reality. Parallel universes really do exist, according to a mathematical discovery by Oxford scientists that sweeps away one of the key objections to the mind boggling and controversial idea. The work has wider implications since the idea of parallel universes sidesteps one of the key problems with time travel. The holographic multiverse with this vision of reality coupled with multiple time lines provides a hopeful glimpse of the future for our planet. #time travel parallel #multiverse theory correlate #parallel earth theory #illuminati time...

Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below. In this episode we compare two superb dual-stage overdrives, both new for Spring 2017. Both pedals offer three modes per side and have the ability to stack side A into B; B into A and – usually – have both sides running in parallel. There is also an element of programmability in both pedals. One key difference between them, however is that the Chase Bliss Audio Brothers has an entirely analogue signal path, while Strymon’s Sunset uses a goodly chunk of DSP. Let’s plug them in and see what we think… Pedals in this episode… • Chase Bliss Audio Brothers UK & Euro...
