Honduras (i/hɒnˈdʊərəs/; Spanish: [onˈduɾas]), officially the Republic of Honduras (Spanish: República de Honduras), is a republic in Central America. It was at times referred to as Spanish Honduras to differentiate it from British Honduras, which became the modern-day state of Belize. Honduras is bordered to the west by Guatemala, to the southwest by El Salvador, to the southeast by Nicaragua, to the south by the Pacific Ocean at the Gulf of Fonseca, and to the north by the Gulf of Honduras, a large inlet of the Caribbean Sea.
Honduras was home to several important Mesoamerican cultures, most notably the Maya, prior to being conquered by Spain in the sixteenth century. The Spanish introduced Roman Catholicism and the now predominant Spanish language, along with numerous customs that have blended with the indigenous culture. Honduras became independent in 1821 and has since been a republic, although it has consistently endured much social strife and political instability, remaining one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. Honduras has the highest murder rate in the world.

Honduras Travel Video like its neighbors, Honduras is experiencing tremendous changes: an expanding tourist economy (cruise ships in Roatán?!), a maturing political scene, and the whole globalization thing, including maquilas, free trade agreements -- heck, even implementing Daylight Savings Time for the second time. Honduras remains deeply entrenched in a two-front war against gangs and HIV/AIDS. Illegal logging is emerging as another major concern (do you know where that new mahogany chest came from?) and a key issue among Honduras' growing environmental community. Honduras Travel Video, most Hondurans you'll meet are very laid back and, while not disinterested, certainly disinclined to make much to-do over politics and world affairs. And aside from the people-pull, nature has its own d...

San Pedro Sula, Honduras, has made it to the top of the list of the world’s most dangerous cities (outside of war zones) for three consecutive years, with an annual homicide rate of 187 per 100,000 people. Reporting crime in Honduras is considered a high-risk job — according to the Honduran National Human Rights Committee, at least 47 journalists and media executives have been murdered between 2003 and 2014. VICE News spent four nights alongside Orlin Castro, a young reporter who covers the crimes that occur in the streets of San Pedro — which often result from the never-ending turf war between the 18th Street and MS-13 gangs, two of the city's most notorious criminal groups. Subscribe to Channel 4 News: http://bit.ly/1sF6pOJ The city of San Pedro Sula in Honduras is reported to be the most dangerous place on earth outside conflict zones - with three murders every day. Filmmaker Guillermo Galdos reports for Channel 4 News.
Honduras is one of the poorest countries in Central and South America. It has the highest murder rate in the world, almost double the next closest contender. It's a place ravaged by the drug trade and political instability, where as recently as 2009 the military ousted a president pushing to modify the constitution in order to extend his own term. It may seem like the last place on earth where businesses would want to invest, and people would want to move. But there's a new idea about to be tried in Honduras. Some call it a Startup City or Free City, others a LEAP Zone, and in Honduran law it's known as a ZEDE. They are politically autonomous, privately run zones that supporters believe could transform not only Honduras, but the entire developing world. In "Governance as Technology," t...

Can a Nation be changed in a day? A country rise in a moment? In 2013, Honduras answered: Yes it can. In the year following, violence has dropped nearly 40%, school attendance rose to an all time high and the nation experienced its first peaceful election in over a decade. In 2013, those two thousand people who said yes to that audacious question were the pioneers. And Honduras was changed forever. 1Nation1Day Honduras was never meant to be just one moment for one nation. It was never meant to be just the largest mission campaign in history. It was meant to be the first. Now, the sun rises on the dawn of a new missions era. Where individuals leave behind their egos, their labels, their logos, and unite with thousands of people around the world for one vision. To change nations...
The community of Agua Blanca Sur (HONDURAS) is located in the upper area of the Sula Valley, the tropical climate and excellent soil quality has historically led agricultural development in the region. Currently, the monoculture of sugarcane is highly developed and most of the land is monopolized by several sugar companies. One of these companies is North SA, AZUNOSA, owned by the British-South African transnational SABMiller. In early 2012 the National Agrarian Institute of Honduras (INA), begins a process of expropriation, showing that the company AZUNOSA / SABMiller has violated land tenure limits established in the Honduran Agrarian Reform Law (1962), occupying and exploiting these lands illegally for planting sugarcane for decades. At this juncture, farmers are organizing to claim...

“Can a nation be saved in a day? A country changed in a moment?” Yes – it can. The flame of change that branded Honduras in 2013, has now burned through the country of the Dominican Republic. And now, as the sun rises on the dawn of a new missions era, a global movement has begun. Once again, 2,000 pioneers left behind their egos, their labels, their logos, and joined together under one vision – to see a nation changed in a day. Welcomed by community leaders, pastors, teachers, and students, the 1Nation1Day team planted flags in the largest capital city-centers across the country. Launching “La Mejor Republica Dominicana” (pronunciation: La May-Whore Republica Dominicana) – a declaration of peace, prosperity and purpose for: “The Best Dominican Republic.” Over the course of a wee...

A business venture with his brother designed to raise money for the school’s construction becomes complicated by the expansion plans of a nearby tourist resort into indigenous territory. Historical parallels are invoked as Ricardo’s son rehearses a stage play about the Garifuna people’s last stand against British colonialism over 200 years ago in their motherland, the island of St. Vincent in the Caribbean. The film features debut performances by Garifuna actors from Honduras, Belize and the USA, and is the first dramatic feature film with a majority of its dialogue in Garifuna (a language proclaimed by UNES...

In 2006 the Red Cross started a project called Redes, which means "networks" in Spanish, to support an integrated community health approach. A key component of this project was to encourage men to play an active role in family health care. "At first we thought it would be difficult. We thought people wouldn't be interested in discussing gender issues. The truth was that people were interested," says volunteer Melvin Varela.

Please visit our website www.honduraschildalliance.org Throughout the world, there are 2.6 billion people who do not have access to any form of proper sanitation. That means no bathroom, no shower, and no way to effectively dispose of their waste and maintain proper hygiene. For those of us who are fortunate enough to have access to these basic human necessities, we shower in clean bathrooms, flush our toilets, and never think twice about it. This is not the case for many of the families in El Porvenir, Honduras, where many families have no form of a bathroom or shower and the ones that do have crumbling, unsanitary bathrooms that become hot spots for diseases and sickness. The children who live in these poverty stricken situations are the most affected by the environmental contamination ...

Honduras Travel Video, most Hondurans you'll meet are very laid back and, while not disinterested, certainly disinclined to make much to-do over politics and world affairs. And aside from the people-pull, nature has its own d...

Bonacca tells the story of a few Honduran fly fishing guides from the Bay Island of Guanaja. In 1998, Hurricane Mitch ravaged Guanaja, and the natives were stripped of nearly everything, including almost 95% of their mangrove population which was a vital habitat to their fishery. In Mitch's wake, an already struggling economy found it difficult to rebuild. When now head fishing guide Rankin Jackson was on the mainland working as a rafting guide he met Colorado trout bum Steve Brown and the two quickly shared a bond over fishing. Rankin invited Brown to Guanaja to explore the fishery with him, and it was then that the story unfolded. Jobs were close to none and still are, but Rankin and his brothers looked to their ancestral past as fishermen and quickly learned how to become fly fishing ...

A Solo-Traveler's Guide To: Central America is the 2nd episode to my travel series. With a clearer vision, this video is a little more polished than the first one but still has the wondrous feel of the first one. This episode guides you through five intense weeks in Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. While this episode does not cover the whole of Central America it covers a good amount for a 5 week journey using planes, buses, ferries, pickups, trucks and hitchhiking, and even horses. In honduras cotton smoked and burned for days
To be outdone by guatamala
To be outdone by texas
With a pitchfork and a bell
Grubby little runners bring her news of me second hand
I won't tell her roaches eat my clay sculpture
I wanna tell her I am headless I am headless
She's walking on the great bloody dirt down there
Sleeping in the soft brown ring down there
