Welcome To My Blog

Thanks for checking the blog out... Hope it offers something a bit different every now & again. Though I come from a pseudo - Mod background (Soul & Ska in particular), I have a diverse taste in music & hope my varied posts will reflect this.

Cheers Skamanc .... I'm not after your undying gratitude, but please leave your thoughts, comments & opinions on the posts & content. I regularly up- & download material, plus buy and trade items. As such, if I have inadvertently "trodden on anyone's toes" in posting anything then please let me know & accept my apologies. Also please support the artists involved & remember that the blog is merely a pointer toward these various downloads, which are stored elsewhere. Legally, any downloads should not be retained for more than a week. So now I've told you the legal bit !

THE RUTS DC & KEVIN COYNE : Sanity Stomp (1980)

Dave Sez does it again !! Had major hassles with my other e-mail account, hence the late appearance of this gem (Dec 27th). Thought I'd save it just a couple of more days to constitute my Birthday post (though I'll be at work in the PM. Shite !!)

Be sure to leave Dave a note or two please !

And in these chilly times, there's nothing like some ultra-rare Ruts DC to warm the cockles of your heart! After Malcolm Owen's death, the Ruts DC continued work on their own compositions whilst playing as backing band for Laurel Aitken's Peel session and this long-deleted power pop album by Kevin Coyne which includes a version of one Ruts DC song, Formula Eyes. This post is specially dedicated to skamanc for keeping his wonderful site skamanchackett.blogspot.com up for us all to enjoy. Thanks to the great poor for posting this, and Christmas cheer to you all, Dave Sez.

The Time's They Are A Changin'

Here we are a full 3 weeks from the New Year & I'm in a state of great change... January the 1st is traditionally a time to make resolutions & change the not - so - good aspects of your life for the better, but I have the opportunity to geat ahead by those 21 days.

Basicaly my wife and I have split up and are now living apart (for two weeks now actually), which has given me something of a window to take stock of my life. I have made the decision to go self employed in the New Year, as I have plenty of work waiting as a sub - contractor in my trade of Auto Electrics.

I am setting up as a one - man band called "English Auto Electrics", hence the related blog site you may have seen in my links here. If I don't make some positive changes like this now, I reckon I never will, as I'm 42 years old later this month.

I have discussed this with my gaffer @ work, and he's being very supportive, letting me stay on for as few or as many shifts as I want while I take the plunge into self employment.

Obviously I will be continuing the blog, so no need to worry there...

I realise this is a big diversion from the usual blogging content, but I just wanted to get a couple of issues off my chest.

So... Thanks everyone for listening !

GALILEO 7 : Update

www.thegalileo7.co.uk - the place where'll you find everything you need...

www.facebook.com/thegalileoseven

http://www.reverbnation.com/thegalileo7

Hello,
here's a quick update on what we've been doing, are doing and going to do...
New bassist Mole (ex-Embrooks and also drummer for The Higher State) has settled in like a true pro after our recent gigs in Belgium and France. Next stop is a home town gig next Friday 30th November at Live Transmission, Victoria St, Rochester (underneath the Royal Function Rooms). Admission £5

http://www.facebook.com/events/448298768541198/

Our single 'Modern Love Affair/Can't Get Away From Myself' is now available on CDR from our website. The two tracks that didn't quite make it onto the recent album were going to be a download and gig-only purchase, but due to overwhelming demand (ie a couple of complaints from people who can't get to gigs and also hate downloads) you can now buy it from our online store. You can also get those horrible downloads from iTunes and our own MP3 store if you're allergic to Apple.
Speaking of our own MP3 store, we've set this up so that you can download all our stuff free from DMR restrictions of iTunes if you so desire...

The lovely 180gm vinyl version of our latest album 'Staring at the Sound is still available, as is the bog standard CD version, on the 'Store' page of our website.

There are plans afoot for a Spanish release of the CD next year.

We've got 2 Christmas party type gigs coming up in December:

Friday 14th - Fiddler's Elbow (Camden, London)

Saturday 15th - Edge of the Wedge (Southsea, nr Portsmouth)

We would most grateful for your esteemed company - either at our gigs or by your virtual presence on our website as you peruse our wares...

Cheers

Another great Franklin collection, courtesy of Herr Pauli's link. A great start to the day... just nobody mention Ajax Amsterdam please !!!

This material combines soul & jazz influences...I would even listen to Aretha recite the Manchester South phonebook, she's that good !!

Apologies to those who have experienced trouble downloading the Franklin stuff via mediafire, as well as for the many deleted links. This is currently beyond my control as I'm still without any web access @ home. If I was able to sit up half the nite in the spare room sharing more musical gems, then i would be, believe me !!!

THE SMALL FACES : Deep Joy 1000th Post !!!

This is going to be the landmark 1000th post for several reasons. Firstly because this is where it all really started for me as a spotty school kid obsessed with the Faces. Secondly in memory of the late Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane, and thirdly as its just so fuckin' great.

Thanks to all the regular visitors & contributors, as well as everyone else that has dropped in over the last couple of years or so. So, here's to the next 1000 posts, and the millionth hit, which should be in the next 3 - 4 weeks, judging by current traffic.

Also for Ian "Mac" MacLagan & Kenney Jones.

DOT DASH : Winter Garden Light (2012)

Dot Dash is a four-piece band (two guitars, bass and drums) from Washington D.C.

Guitarist/singer Terry Banks and bassist Hunter Bennett were in punky power poppers Julie Ocean.

Before that, Terry was in The Saturday People (Slumberland label), Tree Fort Angst (Bus Stop label), Glo-Worm (K Records), and St. Christopher.

Guitarist Bill Crandall was in the mod/pop band Modest Proposal.

Drummer Danny Ingram began musical life in early Dischord-label punks Youth Brigade before moving on to Strange Boutique and, later, U.K. guitar-wranglers Swervedriver.

www.facebook.com/dotdashdc (band info /photos / gigs / reviews etc)

www.thebeautifulmusic.com (record label)

dotdashdc.bandcamp.com

dotdashdc@gmail.com (contact address)

Regular visitors may recall  reviewed their last LP in 2011, so I was delighted to receive this new CD yesterday courtesy of Terry.

I've had it on in the car for the last 24 hours or so & rate this a lot. The sound / production has improved significantly compared to its predecessor & there are some great tracks on here. (PS I had an irate e-mail from the 1st producer after last year's review !!!)

Some well crafted songs & nifty playing on here.... my current faves are "La La Land" (some nice feedback & a tempo change towards the coda) & "The Past Is Another Country". I am very impressed with bassist Hunter... solid player without resorting to unnecessary flashiness. Top man...

Have a listen, see what you think & buy / download the album. Contact details are above & it can be accessed via Amazon, iTunes & eMusic as well...

Cheers, Dave Sez.

24/9/12: PS...

Most welcome! Slight muddle on the sources there: the Human Condition Live in Europe comes thanks to mutant-sounds who also offers us the excellent Human Condition Live at the Collegiate Theatre 1981, both here:

http://mutant-sounds.blogspot.com/2008/11/human-condition-live-at.html

Phenagen (whose name I mangled, apologies) offers us an alternative download for the Collegiate Theatre here:

Go thank wiels for the excellent Dutch radio shows here:

http://wiels.nl/blog/index.php?entry=entry061213-180327

And Jim Walker was drummer not sax, so who's blowing the horn, anyone?

Cheers, Dave Sez.
