Anamorphic format is the cinematography technique of shooting a widescreen picture on standard 35 mm film or other visual recording media with a non-widescreen native aspect ratio. It also refers to the projection format in which a distorted image is "stretched" by an anamorphic projection lens to recreate the original aspect ratio on the viewing screen. (It should not be confused with anamorphic widescreen, a different video encoding concept that uses similar principles but different means.) The word "anamorphic" and its derivatives stem from the Greek words meaning formed again. As a camera format, anamorphic format is losing popularity in comparison to "flat" (or "spherical") formats such as Super 35 mm film shot using spherical lenses; however, because most movie projectors use anamorphic projection format, spherical format negatives are commonly converted into anamorphic prints for projection.
In the years since digital cinema cameras became commonplace, anamorphic has experienced a considerable resurgence of popularity, due in large part to the higher base ISO sensitivity of digital sensors which allows shooting at deeper stops.
Adobe Premiere Pro is a timeline-based video editing software application. It is part of the Adobe Creative Cloud, which includes video editing, graphic design, and web development programs.
Premiere Pro is used by broadcasters such as the BBC and CNN. It has been used to edit feature films, such as Gone Girl,Captain Abu Raed, and Monsters, and other venues such as Madonna's Confessions Tour.
Premiere Pro is the redesigned successor to Adobe Premiere, and was launched in 2003. Premiere Pro refers to versions released in 2003 and later, whereas Premiere refers to the earlier releases. Premiere was one of the first computer-based NLEs (non-linear editing system), with its first release on Mac in 1991. Up until version Premiere Pro 2.0 (CS2), the software packaging featured a galloping horse, in a nod to Eadweard Muybridge's work, "Sallie Gardner at a Gallop".
Premiere Pro supports high resolution video editing at up to 10,240 × 8,192resolution, at up to 32-bits per channel color, in both RGB and YUV. Audio sample-level editing, VST audio plug-in support, and 5.1 surround sound mixing are available. Premiere Pro's plug-in architecture enables it to import and export formats beyond those supported by QuickTime or DirectShow, supporting a wide variety of video and audio file formats and codecs on both MacOS and Windows. When used with Cineform's Neo line of plug-ins, it supports 3D editing with the ability to view 3D material using 2D monitors, while making individual left and right eye adjustments.
I go over some of the pros and cons associated with each type of aspect ratio and what advantages each aspect ratio has in relation to framing and composition. If you have any other pros / cons for aspect ratios for digital film making / cinematography please leave a comment. Thanks. NOTES: 1.85 is technically Matted Widescreen historically used on film stock in the original Academy 1.37 ratio.

Frank Lloyd Wright, legendary American architect and genius mind behind the Organic Architecture philosophy, once said : « The mother Art is Architecture. Without an Architecture of our own we have no soul of our own civilization. ” This quote resonated within me while I explored the city of Chicago in the summer of 2014. Wandering those streets with my camera and a tripod, I felt a sort of peacefulness that I wasn’t expecting to find in this temple of concrete and corporate business. I witnessed a natural harmony between the architecture, the environment, and the human beings spread across the city. It was summer; the beaches that line Lake Michigan were packed like seaside resorts and Chicagoans were sunbathing on their boats or playing volleyball on the sand. Everything looked surreal a...
In this tutorial I show the benefits of re-framing your video footage into a 2:35:1 aspect ratio that is often used in cinema, and how to export the video WITHOUT black bars. Instructions on cropping to 2.35:1 begin at 02:55 How to export instructions begin at 08:08 Aspect ratios are a full on topic in themselves and you can read up on them via a quick Google search. The benefits of cropping and re-framing is that you can alter your framing to give more suitable and pleasing compositions in post production and also add camera movements or fix small mistakes with camera movements that you made whilst filming. Finally I also show how to export your footage without the dreaded "black bars."

Instead of standard letterboxing where we output at 1920x1080p, we look into how you can modify the project dimensions and output at 1920x816p to enjoy the full screen width on sites like Vimeo. READ MORE... This tutorial assumes you already know how to letterbox and reasons for using it. And its better if you have already created your project with letterboxing before doing this tutorial. As then you will have properly repositioned the image vertically within the black bars. Its worth noting that youtube will add these black bars back into the video. However, the new aspect ratio will be preserved and those watching in wide-screen will enjoy the new extra width without the compromise of the 'baked in' horizontal black bars. Well it's 2.35 in the afternoon
You said you'd be comin' home quite soon
Now I've been waiting far too long
I wanna get down to sing my song
But babe there's no more
Well I've been down and I've been sad
And I've kicked things in and gotten me mad
I ain't had nothin' to take my mind
I ain't had nothin' for a long, long time
'Cos babe there's no more
You think you're cool, you think you're neat
You think you're everybody's special treat
Now baby take your hands off of me
I've got a somethin' for you but you ain't brought nothing for me
