Harry Julius Shearer (born December 23, 1943) is an American actor, comedian, writer, voice actor, musician, author, radio host, director and producer. He is known for his long-running roles on The Simpsons, his work on Saturday Night Live, the comedy band Spinal Tap and his radio program Le Show. Born in Los Angeles, California, Shearer began his career as a child actor. From 1969 to 1976, Shearer was a member of The Credibility Gap, a radio comedy group. Following the breakup of the group, Shearer co-wrote the film Real Life with Albert Brooks and started writing for Martin Mull's television series Fernwood 2 Night.
He was a cast member on Saturday Night Live on two occasions, between 1979–80, and 1984–85. Shearer co-created, co-wrote and co-starred in the 1984 film This Is Spinal Tap, a satirical rockumentary, which became a cult hit. In 1989, Shearer joined the cast of The Simpsons; he provides voices for numerous characters, including Mr. Burns, Waylon Smithers, Ned Flanders, Reverend Lovejoy, Kent Brockman, and more. Shearer has appeared in several films, including A Mighty Wind and The Truman Show, has directed two, Teddy Bears' Picnic and The Big Uneasy, and has written three books. Since 1983, Shearer has been the host of the public radio comedy/music program Le Show, a hodgepodge of satirical news commentary, music, and sketch comedy.

Listen to the full performance and interview at http://soundcheck.wnyc.org/story/harry-shearer-and-judith-owen-in-studio/ "Does this tree make me look fat?" It's a question on all our minds as we select seasonally-appropriate evergreen materials to decorate our homes. It's also the subtitle of the 15th annual Christmas Without Tears musical review show, hosted by husband-wife comedy and song duo Harry Shearer and Judith Owen. When the Welsh-born Owen relocated to Santa Monica, she sorely missed Jack Frost nipping at her nose amid the 75-and-sunny climate. So she and Shearer began a "Child's Christmas in Wales"-style tradition in their own home, which has now become a touring charitable event featuring a number of celebrity accomplices. The New York Times called THE BIG UNEASY "An indispensable part of any history of New Orleans before, during and after Hurricane Katrina." In this feature-length documentary, humorist and New Orleans resident Harry Shearer gets the inside story of a disaster that could have been prevented from the people who were there. Shearer speaks to the tireless investigators and experts who poked through the muck as the water receded, and uncovers a courageous whistle-blower from the Army Corps of Engineers. His dogged pursuit of facts reveals that some of the same flawed methods responsible for levee failure during Hurricane Katrina are being used to rebuild the system expected to protect the "new" New Orleans from future peril. The Voices of The Simpsons - Harry Shearer
"Interview with Harry Shearer," Dara, ca. 1982 - 1996 Tape #495 WNYC Collection, 1936 - 1981 NYC Department of Records, Municipal Archives, New York City
HARRY SHEARER IS JOKES
In this week's WEBISODE Planet Forward host Frank Sesno sits down with Harry Shearer, the multi-talented comedian who is the voice of more than 21 Simpsons characters and host of his own radio program, "le Show." Shearer, a part-time resident of New Orleans, recently directed a documentary on what he calls the 'hard truths' behind Hurricane Katrina. The Big Uneasy takes a look at the real reasons why New Orleans flooded (hint: think man-made screw-ups, not natural disaster) and how marshlands can be nature's buffer against storms.
A lot of us know and love actor and comedian Harry Shearer from his voice work as a number of characters from The Simpsons. He is being honored Friday night at the Dallas VideoFest.
In 1971 Jerry Lewis made a film about a clown that falls out of favor with the Nazis and is forced to lead children to the gas chamber at Auschwitz. No, seriously. Here's the Gawker article on it. http://gawker.com/and-yet-everyone-loved-life-is-beautiful-i-will-never-1104223601 I took the interview with Harry Shearer and the backstage video and put it all together for the video. It starts with the Harry Shearer video and then I put in the clips and backstage stuff. I'm sure Jerry meant well, sort of a "Life is Beautiful" before "Life is Beautiful" was ever though of. Unfortunately it's a very hamhanded attempt.
