Chief executive officer

A chief executive officer (CEO in American English) or managing director (MD in British English) describes the position of the most senior corporate officer, executive, or administrator in charge of managing an organization. The CEO of a corporation or company typically reports to the board of directors and is charged with maximizing the value of the entity. Titles also often given to the holder of the CEO position include president and chief executive (CE).

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of an organization's CEO are set by the organization's board of directors or other authority, depending on the organization's legal structure. They can be far-reaching or quite limited and are typically enshrined in a formal delegation of authority.

Typically, the CEO/MD has responsibilities as a director, decision maker, leader, manager and executor. The communicator role can involve the press and the rest of the outside world, as well as the organization's management and employees; the decision-making role involves high-level decisions about policy and strategy. As a leader of the company, the CEO/MD advises the board of directors, motivates employees, and drives change within the organization. As a manager, the CEO/MD presides over the organization's day-to-day operations. The term refers to the person who takes all the decisions regarding the upliftment of the company, which includes all sectors and fields of the business like operations, marketing, business Development, finance, Human resources, etc. The CEO of a company is not necessarily the owner of the company.

GV (company)

GV, formerly Google Ventures, is the venture capital investment arm of Alphabet Inc. and provides seed, venture, and growth stage funding to technology companies. The firm operates independently from Google and makes financially driven investment decisions. GV seeks to invest in startup companies in a variety of fields ranging from Internet, software, and hardware to life science, healthcare, artificial intelligence, transportation, cyber security and agriculture.

The group was founded on March 31, 2009, with a $100 million capital commitment. In 2012, that commitment was raised to $300 million annually, and the fund has $2 billion under management. In 2014, the group announced $125 million to invest in promising European startups.

GV has offices in Mountain View, San Francisco, New York City, Cambridge, and London.

History

GV was founded as Google Ventures in 2009. In December 2015, the company was renamed GV and introduced a new logo.

Services model

GV was one of the first venture capital firms to employ the venture capital services model. It provides portfolio companies with access to operational help after making a financial investment. Full-time partners at GV work with portfolio companies on design and product management, marketing, engineering, and recruiting.

Travis Kalanick

Travis Cordell Kalanick (born August 6, 1976) is an American entrepreneur. He is the co-founder of the peer-to-peer file sharing company Red Swoosh and the transportation network company Uber.

In 2014, he entered the Forbes list of the 400 richest Americans at position 290, with an estimated net worth of $6 billion.

Early life and education

Kalanick was born on August 6, 1976 in Los Angeles, California. He lived in Northridge, California, where he graduated from Granada Hills High School and later enrolled in college at the University of California, Los Angeles, to study computer engineering. His mother, Bonnie, worked in retail advertising for the Los Angeles Daily News, and his father, Donald, was a civil engineer for the city of Los Angeles. His father Donald E. Kalanick's family is Catholic with Czech and Austrian roots. He has two half-sisters and his brother Cory is a firefighter.

Career

Scour

In 1998, Travis Kalanick dropped out of UCLA with some of his classmates to found Scour Inc., a multimedia search engine, and Scour Exchange, a Peer-to-peer file sharing service. In 2000, the Motion Picture Association of America, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) brought a lawsuit against Scour, alleging copyright infringement. In September of that year Scour filed for bankruptcy to protect itself from the lawsuit.

When entering the store, he notices all the specially designed gadgets that are made for both the Hearing and Deaf individuals in favour of the Deaf culture. Then suddenly, the wicked anarchist signals him, already expecting him. She convinces him to try her secret innovation the same day at 9:00pm. The location of her new innovation is behind the uPlump store where there is an entrance leading to a strange underground hallway. This is where JASON SMITH, the low immersion VR engineer, took awareness of this newly invented VR game. But, what he didn't know, was that VICTORIA MERLE, the wicked anarchist, knew that JASON SMITH would be tempted to copy her secretly patented VR system. In fact, that's exactly why she wants him to "test" it. Because, once you test it, there's no turning back, you're under intensive brainwashing.
