Photographs of Loukanikos, "sausage", the legendary stray "riot dog" who was present at nearly every outbreak of mass class struggle and social disorder in Athens up until 2012, when he was adopted and retired outside the city. He died peacefully in his sleep in 2014, aged around 10.

Kanellos was the name of the previous riot dog that lived in Exarhia and joined all the demos, before Loukanikos took his place. Initially, Loukanikos would go to the demos with the left-wing student group EAAK, and it was only later that he changed his political preferences and went to demos with the anarchists.
On another note, I am under the impression that dogs are not affected by tear gas, though one would expect them to be. I could not justify this claim "scientifically", but only from experience. Neither Loukanikos nor Kanellos nor any of the dogs that joined riots in Greece ever show any kind of effect from the tons of tear gas that the cops constantly threw at us. Now, I cannot say whether there were any long term effects (not even sure about how humans are affected in a long term basis), but during the riots all dogs seem completely indifferent to the gas. And I have noticed a similar thing happening in Chile, where riots also attract a lot of dogs.
If Sausage had been a riot pig would it have been ok to baconize him? Or sausageize him for that matter. I visit some pigs on a nearby farm when I'm out walking and they appear to be quite similar in character to my dog although somewhat smarter. This is proved by the fact that my dog makes the most rudimentary Molotov cocktails whereas the pigs have a well systemised production line of round black bombs with fizzing fuse and the word 'BOMB' written on them. Based on the above facts I can't work out why our dogs get petted and get to play fetch whilst our pigs get a bolt in the head and get their fucking throat cut. Can anyone enlighten me?

The photo of the policeman kicking a dog, Wikipedia has down as being Thodoris, a different stray "riot dog". Anyone know for sure either way?
There's uncertainty as to whether Thodoris and Louk are different dogs. So, who knows?
