Mishka

This is the most awesome band I have heard in a long long time.

I know very little about them, I do know they are playing a gig  on Monday 29th May at the Eleonor Arms in Bethnal Green – wish I could be there!

The band are:
Maria Atlas ~ Vocals
Julien Brunard ~ Violin
Jon Miyawaki ~ Guitar
Jake Maun ~ Guitar
Tom Williams ~ Double Bass

Shades of Django and the Hot Club.  There is some awesome playing here, all fine musicians and the young ladies voice will break your heart.

Marina V

It’s always a good day when Marina V drops a new track, so we have one that dropped a few days ago to share with you today. She is working on a new album, “Born to the Stars”, which you can pre-order here, if you have a mind to.

In case you are not acquainted with Marina V, this is what I and a few others wrote about her a few a few years back:

Russian-born singer/songwriter Marina V is a young and charismatic pop artist with an incredible life story and a “hauntingly beautiful” sound (L.A. Times). Marina’s music is “melodic and passionate” (The Washington Post), which, combined with her “voice of an angel” (The Prague Post) and her rich cultural background, makes this artist truly special. “If the Beatles and Tori Amos had a child raised in Russia by Tchaikovsky, that would be me,” muses the piano-playing chanteuse, describing her musical influences. Now a true California girl, the red-headed songstress grew up in Moscow, blessed with a beautiful voice & long last name (Verenikina.)

This is the new song I mentioned and it’s a real beauty, as is the singer.
I keep playing this one, I really dig the song. Marina was in top form writing this gem. Personally I can’t wait for the album to drop if this is a hint of the quality.

For something different, here’s Marina’s Russian version of a Neil Diamond classic. It sounds just as good in Russian. This is a live performance from Los Angeles with Nick Baker on guitar. Brilliant.
Solitary Man

Many thanks to ZR Live! & Delta H Design for this video!

Gonna finish up with one of my earlier favorites from the Marina V catalog. This was a video she filmed in Moscow a few years back, A beautiful song with the totally sexy Marina in fine voice. Enjoy.
