Just days before the Paris Agreement comes into force, developed countries, led by Australia and the United Kingdom, have delivered a Climate Finance Roadmap to meet the collective goal of mobilising 100 billion USD a year for developing countries by 2020 to tackle climate change.

Hivos Southern Africa is currently spearheading a regional advocacy campaign on safe abortion in partnership with Students and Youth Working on reproductive Health Action Team (SAYWHAT). SAYWHAT facilitates students and youth to discuss sexual and reproductive health challenges and further develop advocacy initiatives.

At the invitation of Age of Wonderland six artists, designers and other creatives (from Africa, Asia and Latin America) will have a close look at the relationship between big and open data, technology, economy and social innovations. In cooperation with Dutch professionals, they are researching and developing ideas and scenarios surrounding big data, and will present their work during the Dutch Design Week (22 – 30 October) in an exhibition and workshops.

Hivos has long been dedicated to supporting development in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). One of our key focus areas in the region is on freedom of expression and Internet governance, and our Internet Governance in the Middle East and North Africa programme (iGmena) is one of the main ways Hivos supports this focus area. Since its inception in 2012, iGmena has been on the forefront of developing and reinforcing knowledge on Internet governance in the MENA region.

Zimbabwe adopted a new Constitution in 2013, putting an end to the post-war Lancaster House Constitution that had been used as the country’s supreme law since 1980. However, since 2013, very little progress has been made in aligning the country's laws to the new constitution.

Hivos' Open Contracting Data programme presents first results and insights

For Hivos and ARTICLE 19, the International Open Data Conference (#IODC16) in Madrid on 6 and 7 October marks a turning point. The Africa Biogas Partnership Programme (ABPP) has won the Community Development Programme of the Year Award at the highly regarded East African Power Industry Awards ceremony.  This was in recognition of ABPP’s leading role in establishing the largest commercially viable and market-oriented biogas sector in Africa.
