Narrated by the late, great Phil Hartmann.
I had the pleasure of playing keyboards in many of the songs used in this movie. I also used my Steiner Parker Synthacon for music and sound effects through much of the animated shorts, and various scenes throughout the movie. I'm listed in the end credits, twice.
Synopsis: When a reporter too laid-back for his own good is told his last chance to keep his job is to get some good photos for a story on skateboarding, he seeks out a group of four boarders who agree to take him on a skateboarding tour of California. After showing extensive footage of skateboarding moves and tricks, the film then goes on to show some surfing and snowboarding. The film is also bookended by a pair of animated shorts, both about skateboarding.
Review: You have to look at this film as a time capsule of the way skateboarding was. The skate parks that are no longer there, the long hair, the short shorts. This film took a few years to make and it was started at a time in skateboarding when the sport was evolving every month. Boards were changing shape, truck sizes changes. Early during the filming, skaters where just starting to hit coping and barely get air. Most skate parks were organic very flowing parks with no vertical, and by the end of the film, skate parks had been built with lots of vertical and pool coping. It seemed like the film was never going to be finished because it would have been outdated by the time it came out, so they kept trying to get the newest tricks on film before finishing it. Anyhow, great film!
Hal Jepsen was born in 1940, in Los Angeles, California and began surfing at 17. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from UCLA in 1968, and became a real estate agent before producing his first surf film "Cosmic Children" in 1970. Jepsen's best known work showcased Hawaiian surfers Jeff Hakman and Barry Kanaiaupuni in their prime. Jepsen followed with three more full-length surf movies:
"A Sea for Yourself" in 1973, along with "Super Session" in 1975, and "We Got Surf" in 1981. In 1978 he branched out into skateboarding with the film "Skateboard Madness," staring Stacy Peralta.
In 1997, his filmmaking accomplishments were profiled in The Surfers Journal's 50 Years of Surfing on Film series for the Outdoor Life Network.
Hal's extensive work in the early 70's surfing and skateboarding subcultures is revered today in documentaries and feature films, such as "The Lords Of Dogtown."

During the summer of 78, Me and my bud John had my future bro-in-law film us at a skatepark in Elyria Ohio. We had a blast spending countless hours there. I had the film transfered to video then to computer. Bear in mind the year and the attire worn. Wish I had that energy and physique now. Enjoy.

I CAN SEE IT AND I’M PART OF IT: San Francisco Punk Portraits 1978 - 82
The time between Richard Nixon's resignation in 1974 and Reagan's ascent from CA governor to U.S. presidency in 1981 marks a prolific surge of artistic and creative production across California, often taking a sharp trajectory from the 60s utopian idealism as a strong sense of distrust and disillusionment cast its long, dark shadows and was reflected in music – once again, the natural channel for response, reaction and outrage. In San Francisco the thriving music scene developed its own punk conceit, an arsenal comprised of bands, filmmakers, artists, clubs and the ever-supportive denizens along for the ride. Gender factors largely into the equation as women were not merely audience members, but forceful contributors driving the scene. The boundary between the spectator and performer was often blurred as audience members were inspired to pick up instruments, form bands and be on the stage the very next week. The DIY aesthetic prevailed… and the cameras were rolling!

Allen Garfield
Allen Garfield, born and sometimes credited as Allen Goorwitz (born November 22, 1939), is an American film and television actor.
Life and career
Garfield was born in Newark, New Jersey, the son of Alice (née Lavroff) and Philip Goorwitz. A graduate of Weequahic High School, he was a sports reporter and Golden Gloves boxer before becoming an actor. He studied acting at The Actors Studio in New York City, studying with both Lee Strasberg and Elia Kazan, and worked in stage before film. Garfield is a quirky and prolific actor who has appeared in over 100 films and television shows. He is known for playing nervous villains, corrupt businessmen and politicians. In addition he has appeared in two art films by German director Wim Wenders, Der Stand der Dinge and Bis ans Ende der Welt. Garfield has one sister, Lois. Quentin Tarantino once Studied with Garfield when Tarantino was starting as a filmmaker.
For a year after his father's death and in tribute to him, Allen used his family name, Goorwitz for his screen credits.

Built by Rotiform using pre-1978 centres and mounted to motorsport barrels to deliver this controversial look known as ZERO | LIP - the wheels have resulted in the car being the subject of much controversy. I had the pleasure of playing keyboards in many of the songs used in this movie. I also used my Steiner Parker Synthacon for music and sound effects through much of the animated shorts, and various scenes throughout the movie. I'm listed in the end credits, twice.
Synopsis: When a reporter too laid-back for his own good is told his last chance to keep his job is to get some good photos for a story on skateboarding, he seeks out a group of four boarders who agree to take him on a skateboarding tour of California. After showing extensive footage of skateboarding moves and tricks, the film then goes on to show some surfing and snowboarding. The film is also bookended by a pair of animated shorts, both about skateboarding.
Review: You have to look at this film as a time capsule of the way skateboarding was. The skate parks that are no longer there, the long hair, the short shorts. This film took a few years to make and it was started at a time in skateboarding when the sport was evolving every month. Boards were changing shape, truck sizes changes. Early during the filming, skaters where just starting to hit coping and barely get air. Most skate parks were organic very flowing parks with no vertical, and by the end of the film, skate parks had been built with lots of vertical and pool coping. It seemed like the film was never going to be finished because it would have been outdated by the time it came out, so they kept trying to get the newest tricks on film before finishing it. Anyhow, great film!
Hal Jepsen was born in 1940, in Los Angeles, California and began surfing at 17. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from UCLA in 1968, and became a real estate agent before producing his first surf film "Cosmic Children" in 1970. Jepsen's best known work showcased Hawaiian surfers Jeff Hakman and Barry Kanaiaupuni in their prime. Jepsen followed with three more full-length surf movies:
"A Sea for Yourself" in 1973, along with "Super Session" in 1975, and "We Got Surf" in 1981. In 1978 he branched out into skateboarding with the film "Skateboard Madness," staring Stacy Peralta.
In 1997, his filmmaking accomplishments were profiled in The Surfers Journal's 50 Years of Surfing on Film series for the Outdoor Life Network.
Hal's extensive work in the early 70's surfing and skateboarding subcultures is revered today in documentaries and feature films, such as "The Lords Of Dogtown."

After the much-hyped filth and fury of the initial punk movement almost instantly combusted or codified, things got much more interesting. In the halcyon pre-internet days, regional scenes were allowed to grow and develop their own identifiable and often highly idiosyncratic sounds, word of one another’s development spreading slowly through fanzines and small mail order distributors. Lucky for us, there were also cameras laying around, and the rare films in this series provide an invaluable snapshot of one of the most exciting – and one of the most loosely-defined – periods of music in the 20th Century. THIS MUST BE THE PLACE is your highly opinionated guide to viewing these creatures in their native habitats.

I CAN SEE IT AND I’M PART OF IT: San Francisco Punk Portraits 1978 - 82
The time between Richard Nixon's resignation in 1974 and Reagan's ascent from CA governor to U.S. presidency in 1981 marks a prolific surge of artistic and creative production across California, often taking a sharp trajectory from the 60s utopian idealism as a strong sense of distrust and disillusionment cast its long, dark shadows and was reflected in music – once again, the natural channel for response, reaction and outrage. In San Francisco the thriving music scene developed its own punk conceit, an arsenal comprised of bands, filmmakers, artists, clubs and the ever-supportive denizens along for the ride. Gender factors largely into the equation as women were not merely audience members, but forceful contributors driving the scene. The boundary between the spectator and performer was often blurred as audience members were inspired to pick up instruments, form bands and be on the stage the very next week. The DIY aesthetic prevailed… and the cameras were rolling!
I CAN SEE IT AND I’M PART OF IT is a unique glimpse into SF’s punk past – an archival treasure trove comprised of moving and still images, both amateur and professional. This shorts program, curated especially for THIS MUST BE THE PLACE, includes but is not limited to:

Jamie McToldridge is one of the coolest guys I've had the pleasure of meeting and it was fantastic to shoot his G60-powered Mk2 Golf with THOSE custom BBS E50 wheels. Built by Rotiform using pre-1978 centres and mounted to motorsport barrels to deliver this controversial look known as ZERO | LIP - the wheels have resulted in the car being the subject of much controversy.
The actual offset of these wheels is ET114 and ET127 front and rear respectively. To read the full feature on this car then check out Feb 2012 edition of Performance VW.

Haroshi was born in 1978 in Tokyo, Japan. He has been skating ever since his transition from childhood to adolescence, and he still does. During these years, Haroshi gathered a very impressive knowledge about the skateboard anatomy – about its parts: decks, trucks and wheels, the way they are connected and how they function together. The complete absence of the formal art education, he compensates with the enormous passion for skateboarding and his proven talent and a unique artistic vision. Haroshi’s freedom of expression comes from the DIY ethos of skate culture he follows in creating works of art from old skateboards used to the utmost, inspired by the striking and stylish pop-culture images.

ou le skateboard dans tous ses états. Le but de cette manifestation est de fédérer deux mondes qui souvent se croisent sans se côtoyer pour autant: les skateurs d'un côté, les artistes de l'autre. Tous viennent du Luxembourg et/ou de la Grande Région pour se rassembler autour de ce totem pop, la planche à quatre roues.
Qu'il s'agisse du skateboard en tant que pratique (figures de style, historique, évolution de la planche, fabrication, portrait de skateurs, les endroits cultes pour «skater»…) ou en tant que support pour une oeuvre d’art… WHEELCOME ON BOARD permettra d’ouvrir le monde du skate et de l’art pour le découvrir sous de nouveaux angles.
Le 13 et le 20 juin, la planche pourra être regardée, analysée, montée, roulée, achetée, touchée, appréciée et même dégustée !

Né en 1978, l’artiste Samuel Levy a développé une passion particulière : le stylo à bille. Après avoir fréquenté plusieurs établissements artistiques en Belgique sans jamais trouver ce qu’il recherche dans sa pratique artistique, c’est-à-dire une liberté d’expression non formatée, Samuel a voulu réduire sa palette d’outils afin de se concentrer sur l’essentiel, le stylo à bille. Depuis, il mixe peintures, bombes, et encres avec sa technique bien personnelle. Ce bicomane affirmé est en charge du volet artistique de l’exposition.
Lowic Villa
Passionné au départ par le BMX, j'ai atterri sur un skateboard avec la musique depuis le plus jeune et tendre âge, Je touche-à-tout. Peu importe la discipline, graphisme, photo ou vidéo, je m’investit toujours bien au-delà des 100 pour cent. Pour l’exposition WHEELCOME ON BOARD, j'ai non seulement puisé dans ma collection de skateboards, j'ai également raconté l'histoire du skate au Luxembourg et dans la Grande-Région ainsi que son évolution des années 60 jusqu'à maintenant !!!

Michael Perrech and Arie Van Schyndel are also into lowriders and Arie owns a 1983 El Camino with two front pumps, one rear pump, six batteries and ten switches. Michael has a 1978 Cadillac with four pumps, ten batteries and ten switches.

Tendulkar is the first player to score fifty centuries in all international cricket combined, he now has 94 centuries in international cricket. On 17 October 2008, when he surpassed Brian Lara's record for the most runs scored in Test Cricket, he also became the first batsman to score 12,000 runs in that form of the game, having also been the third batsman and first Indian to pass 11,000 runs in Test cricket. He was also the first player to score 10,000 runs in one-day internationals, and also the first player to cross every subsequent 1000-run mark that has been crossed in ODI cricket history and 200 runs in a one-day international match. In the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, Tendulkar surpassed Australia's Allan Border to become the player to cross the 50-run mark the most number of times in Test cricket history, and also the second ever player to score 10 Test centuries against Australia, after only Sir Jack Hobbs of England more than 70 years previously. Tendulkar passed 30,000 runs in international cricket on 20 November 2009, and has been honoured with the Padma Vibhushan award, India's second highest civilian award, and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, India's highest sporting honor. Tendulkar became the first sportsperson and the first personality without an aviation background to be awarded the honorary rank of Group Captain by the Indian Air Force. He won the 2010 Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for cricketer of the year at the ICC awards.
