The University of Melbourne's Financial Institutions, Regulation and Corporate Governance research group at Melbourne Business School together with the University of New South Wales Women in Leadership Research Network to invite you to hear from leading Australian and international academics and enjoy some summer warmth during the Australian Open, one of Australia's biggest and most-loved sporting events.
The conference organisers Professor Nadia Massoud from Melbourne Business School and Renée Adams from the University of New South Wales have sought submissions from top-seeded thought leaders in the global financial community who will be presenting on topics in the area of financial institutions, regulation and corporate governance – with a particular focus on the role of skill, promotion and pay in the corporate and sporting worlds and academia.

OVERVIEW
Sunday 29 January: Private equity expert, Professor Francesca Cornelli from London Business School will give a keynote speech.
Rui Dai, a Senior research director at Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) will host a special session to update the research community about the new advances in data and tools at WRDS, which are integrated and developed to help researchers in, but not limited to, financial institutions, regulation and governance fields. The session would feature a few new databases that have been recently integrated into WRDS, including:
- Thomson Reuters (Worldscope, Global Ownership, and SDC platinum),
- Ravenpack (Global Structured News), 2IQ (Global Insider),
- Factset Revere (Supply-chain, and Geographic Revenue),
- ISS Voting Analytics, and
- Infogroup (Private Company).
This session would also introduce the WRDS Analytics Platform, which aims to improve research efficiency and enhance data calculation accuracy.
Monday 30 January: Public policy expert Professor Betsey Stevenson from the University of Michigan will lead a panel discussing the role of skill in industry and academia. The panel includes top experts from industry: Dr Marianne Broadbent, Managing Partner, NGS Global and Vera Chaplin, Managing Director, S&P Global Ratings, Lead Analytical Manager - Asia Pacific; and academic, and Iftekhar Hasan, Professor of Finance and Corrigan Chair I International Business and Finance, Fordham University.
To motivate our discussion of skill, conference participants who register before Monday 5 December will be invited to attend the Australian Open’s Women’s Final on Saturday 28 January.
Registered participants are invited to attend a Saturday and Sunday conference wine reception, and Monday night dinner.
