Small size with metallic glossy black. The fork in the tail is not as pronounced as Black Drongo.

Resident of Himalayan foothills, eastern & western ghats.

Resident across India. Males have dark head, whereas females are grey with banding on throat and chest.

Omnivorous. Feeds both on fruits and insects.

Malabar Grey Hornbill

Kottebetta, Kodagu, Karnataka. Apr 2016

Found only in Parashurama Kshetra. Lacks the casque on top the beak, generally found in other Hornbills.

Being large frugivores, they are important as seed dispersal agents for many species of fruit bearing forest trees

Resident south of the Ganga plains. Shy terrestrial bird, that can fly only for short distances. Has red facial skin and legs.

Omnivorous. Feeds on both seeds and insects.

Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary, Karnataka. Feb 2016.

Resident across India. Has white (and woolly) neck and underparts. Body and head are black.
