The Hollies are an English pop/rock group known for their pioneering and distinctive three part vocal harmony style. The Hollies became one of the leading British groups of the 1960s (231 weeks on the UK singles charts during the 1960s; the 9th highest of any artist of the decade) and into the mid 1970s. It was formed by Allan Clarke and Graham Nash in late 1962 as a Merseybeat type music group in Manchester, although some of the band members came from towns north of there. Graham Nash left the group in 1968 to form the supergroup Crosby, Stills & Nash.
They enjoyed considerable popularity in many countries (at least 60 singles or EPs and 26 albums charting somewhere in the world spanning over five decades), although they did not achieve major US chart success until 1966 with "Bus Stop". The Hollies had over 30 charting singles on the UK Singles Chart, and 22 on the Billboard Hot 100, with major hits on both sides of the Atlantic that included "Just One Look", "Look Through Any Window", "Bus Stop", "I Can't Let Go", "On a Carousel", "Stop Stop Stop", "Carrie Anne", "Jennifer Eccles", and later "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother", "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" and "The Air That I Breathe".
"Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" (also called "Long Cool Woman" or "Long Cool Woman (in a Black Dress)") is a song written by Allan Clarke, Roger Cook, and Roger Greenaway and performed by the British rock group The Hollies. Originally appearing on the album Distant Light, it was released as a single in April 1972 (on Parlophone in the United Kingdom), selling 1.5 million copies in the United States and two million worldwide. It reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in September 1972. Billboard ranked it as the No. 24 song for 1972.
On the day "Long Cool Woman" was recorded at AIR Studios, the group's producer, Ron Richards, was ill and, as a result, the song was produced by the group. The song is different from most Hollies songs in that there are no three-part vocal harmonies, and the song features lead guitar and lead vocal work by Allan Clarke. Upon his return, Ron Richards mixed the recording.
The song was written in the swamp rock style of Creedence Clearwater Revival, in terms of the vocal, rhythm, and melodic style. It came out in the summer of 1972 (the same year Creedence split up). Clarke imitated John Fogerty's vocal style, which was based on the Creedence song "Green River". John Fogerty was not impressed with the group's imitation of his style, and tried to sue the Hollies for infringing on the Creedence trademark; however, because of the differences in the melody of the two songs, the case was thrown out.
I Breathe is a song written by Alexander Bard and Anders Wollbeck. It was recorded by Vacuum, who released it as a single scoring a late 1996-early 1997 hit.
"The Air That I Breathe" (Spanish title: "Necesito poder respirar") is a ballad written by Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood, initially recorded by Albert Hammond on his 1972 album It Never Rains in Southern California.
This song was a major hit for The Hollies in early 1974, reaching number two in the U.K.. In the summer of 1974, the song reached number six in the United States on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number three on the Adult Contemporary chart. In Canada, the song peaked at number five on the RPM Magazine charts. The audio engineering for "The Air That I Breathe" was done by Alan Parsons. It proved to be the Hollies' final charting hit in both the US and UK.
The 1992 Radiohead song "Creep" uses a similar chord progression as "The Air That I Breathe". As a result, Hammond and Hazlewood sued Radiohead for plagiarism and won.
Ferdinand Sarnitz (born December 17, 1988), known by his stage name Left Boy, is an Austrian rapper, singer and producer from Vienna, Austria.
Sarnitz was born on December 17, 1988 in Vienna, Austria to Austrian musician André Heller and Sabina Sarnitz. He attended the American International School of Vienna and graduated in 2007. In his free time at school i.e. lunch-recess Sarnitz spent most of his time rapping. At the age of 18, Sarnitz went to New York City to study audio engineering at the Institute of Audio Research for a year. After living in his hometown Vienna for a short while, he decided to move to Brooklyn to live in a shared apartment with two directors, a producer and a photographer.
In December 2010, Sarnitz released his first mixtape The Second Coming for free download. In mid-2011, he started making music videos for all of the songs. Sarnitz often uses samples for his English songs which haven't been released for usability which is why an official sound carrier couldn't be released. Even though he hadn't been signed to a record label, he was able to perform at festivals in 2012, including "Sea of Love" and "HipHop Open". Live, he is accompanied by the dance group "Urban Movement". The famous Ruan Roets is a big fan and describing the Left Boy sound as "poes goed". Sarnitz has a son called Yves-Louis. He cites Wu-Tang Clan, Oxmo Puccino, De La Soul, Atmosphere, Ugly Duckling, Daft Punk, Édith Piaf, Nina Simone, Oumou Sangaré, Gipsy Kings as his inspirations.

Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" was a song by the rock and roll group, The Hollies, and released on February 1, 1972 as a single on the Parlophone Records label. It was released soon after Allan Clarke, who was featured on lead guitar as well as lead vocal had left the group, from their album "Distant Light" (1970). As the group had just left EMI/Parlophone and signed with Polydor, they did not promote the song. However it became a No. 2 hit in the United States, their greatest ever singles success there. It was inspired and in the style of the rock and roll group Creedence Clearwater Revival, and on being reactivated by EMI in Britain a few months later, it reached No. 32. The song is notable in that it features Clarke playing rhythm guitar, something he rarely did (Clarke came up...

Graham Nash played an important role in the early history of the Hollies, but after his departure in December 1968, the group achieved some of its greatest successes. After hearing Phil Everly's fine version of "The Air That I Breathe" written by Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood, the Hollies recorded the definitive version, engineered by Alan Parsons. Released as a single in January 1974 on Polydor Records, it reached #2 in the UK. In the US it was released on the Epic label and achieved #6. It can be found on the CD on Best of the Hollies: Air That I Breathe and The Hollies' Greatest Hits on EMI. It clearly demonstrates that Allan Clarke was one of the best lead singers of the era. Terry Sylvester's background singing and Tony Hicks' guitar add to the great sound. This sound recordin...

THE AIR THAT I BREATHE
The Hollies
If I could make a wish
I think I'd pass
can't think of anything i need....
no cigarettes, no sleep, no light, no sound
nothing to eat, no books to read
making love with you
has left me peaceful, warm and tired
what more could I ask
there's nothing left, to be desired
peace came upon me and it leaves me weak
so sleep, silent angel
go to sleep........
Sometimes
all I need is the air that I breathe
and to love you
all I need is the air that I breathe
just to love you
all I need is the air that I breathe.......
