The present tense is a grammatical tense whose principal function is to locate a situation or event in present time. The term "present tense" is usually used in descriptions of specific languages to refer to a particular grammatical form or set of forms; these may have a variety of uses, not all of which will necessarily refer to present time. For example, in the English sentence My train leaves tomorrow morning, the verb form leaves is said to be in the present tense, even though in this particular context it refers to an event in future time. Similarly, in the historical present, the present tense is used to narrate events that occurred in the past.
There are two common types of present tense form in most Indo-European languages: the present indicative (the combination of present tense and indicative mood) and the present subjunctive (the combination of present tense and subjunctive mood).
Present tense may be denoted by the glossing abbreviation PRES or PRS.
The present indicative of most verbs in modern English has the same form as the infinitive, except for the third-person singular form, which takes the ending -[e]s. The verb be has the forms am, is, are. For details see English verbs. For the present subjunctive, see English subjunctive.
The present (or now) is the time that is associated with the events perceived directly and in the first time, not as a recollection (perceived more than once) or a speculation (predicted, hypothesis, uncertain). It is a period of time between the past and the future, and can vary in meaning from being an instant to a day or longer. In radiocarbon dating, the "present" is defined as AD 1950.
It is sometimes represented as a hyperplane in space-time, typically called "now", although modern physics demonstrates that such a hyperplane cannot be defined uniquely for observers in relative motion. The present may also be viewed as a duration (see specious present).
Contemporary history describes the historical timeframe that is immediately relevant to the present time and is a certain perspective of modern history.
In Patanjali Yoga Sutras the first sutra defines Yoga as 'NOW'. By 'Chitta Vrithhi nirodha' (restraining the thought-streams) the present can be experienced. The moment a person thinks, he is recalling his past experience. He will never know the present. Being conscious or being aware is the only way to know the present.
Tense may refer to:
English grammar is the structure of expressions in the English language. This includes the structure of words, phrases, clauses and sentences.
There are historical, social, cultural and regional variations of English. Divergences from the grammar described here occur in some dialects of English. This article describes a generalized present-day Standard English, the form of speech found in types of public discourse including broadcasting, education, entertainment, government, and news reporting, including both formal and informal speech. There are certain differences in grammar between the standard forms of British English, American English and Australian English, although these are inconspicuous compared with the lexical and pronunciation differences.
Eight types of word ("word classes" or "parts of speech") are distinguished in English: nouns, determiners, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, and conjunctions. (Determiners, traditionally classified along with adjectives, have not always been regarded as a separate part of speech.) Interjections are another word class, but these are not described here as they do not form part of the clause and sentence structure of the language.

I shot this stuff on my iPhone months before A Moon Shaped Pool was released. I was going to do something else with it, but it seemed to fit the new album pretty well. So here it is with "Present Tense".
Shot in a day on a Canon D7, this 8 minute short film tells the story of Beth and Cory, each happily married, who meet at a business conference and find a strong connection developing over just a few days. Stimulated by caffeine and the buzz of work, they quickly cross over from a purely professional interaction to more intimate concerns. Post-Mortem I set out on this project because I was hoping for an opportunity to work closely with actors. In that sense, this was a success. Angie and Rez were happy to experiment and really evolve these characters. We had a lot of rehearsals - I forget, maybe 8? - and I was in awe to see the characters of Beth and Cory take shape. Completely unexpected was the joy of having a scriptwriter on board who took the most basic starting points I offered, tu...

Major Crimes S05E01 Present Tense Major Crimes S05E01 Present Tense
I would like to think about it
Not just take a glimpse around it
You know just what I mean
If you've got another minute
It would be nice to be in it
Why would we move so fast
Even with the best of reasons
You still can't go changing seasons
And autumn leaves are changing hue
And if you're home I'll pick you up sometime
We'll go out driving and see the sights and sounds and way it used to be
Its always nice to hear an oldie
Turn to putty but that's the old me
The new is hard as rock
How can we judge if your summer was better than mine
And how can we tell if the moment is in its prime
And words flow like wine
And everyone's taking their time
To see what I mean, lean, furious machine
There is never a dull conclusion
Just a good friendly ending protrusion
