The Oregonian is the major daily newspaper in Portland, Oregon, owned by Advance Publications. It is the oldest continuously published newspaper on the U.S. west coast, founded as a weekly by Thomas J. Dryer on December 4, 1850, and published daily since 1861. It is the largest newspaper in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest by circulation and the 19th largest daily newspaper in the country. The Sunday edition is published under the title, The Sunday Oregonian.
The Oregonian received the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service, the only gold medal annually awarded by the organization. Writers for the paper have received five other Pulitzer Prizes, most recently the award for Editorial Writing in 2014.
The Oregonian is home-delivered throughout Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, and Yamhill counties in Oregon and Clark County, Washington four days a week (Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday); it is also home-delivered in parts of Marion and Columbia counties. Some independent dealers deliver the newspaper outside of that area, though in 2006 it became no longer available in far eastern Oregon and the southern Oregon Coast, and starting in December 2008 "increasing newsprint and distribution costs" caused the paper to stop deliveries to all areas south of Albany.
A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Films may be of recent date and, depending upon the festival's focus, can include international and domestic releases. Some festivals focus on a specific film-maker or genre (e.g., film noir) or subject matter (e.g., horror film festivals). A number of film festivals specialise in short films of a defined maximum length. Film festivals are typically annual events. Some film historians do not consider Film Festivals as official releases of film, like Jerry Beck. The best known film festivals are the Venice Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, the Toronto Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival, the latter being the largest film festival worldwide, based on attendance. The Venice Film Festival is the oldest major festival. The Melbourne International Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the oldest in the world. A 2013 study found 3,000 active films festivals worldwide—active defined as having held an event in the previous 24 months.

The Oregon Zoo, formerly the Washington Park Zoo, is a zoo in Portland, the largest city in the U.S. state of Oregon. Located 2 miles (3.2 km) southwest of Downtown Portland, the zoo is inside Portland's Washington Park, and includes the 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) narrow gauge Washington Park & Zoo Railway that connects to the International Rose Test Garden inside the park. Opened in 1888 after a private animal collector donated his animals to the City of Portland, the 64-acre (26 ha) zoo is now owned by the regional Metro government.
A member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, it has species survival plans for twenty-one endangered/threatened species, among which are successful breeding programs for endangered California condors, Asian elephants, and in recent times, African lions too. (The latter was under recommendation by the AZA). The zoo also boasts an extensive plant collection throughout its animal exhibits and specialized gardens. During the summer it is host to a concert series, and in the winter produces ZooLights, a holiday light show. The Oregon Zoo is Oregon's largest paid and arguably most popular attraction, with more than 1.6 million visitors in 2008 to 2009.

Just fresh from Sundance 2011 - this is one of the new indie horror movies to watch for in 2011. The feel we got is that it's like a combination of "Hobo With A Shotgun" and "A Winter's Bone"...it's about a woman leaves the farm and enters the unknown. Some viewers called it "Alice In Wonderland finds herself in hell". You will need to check it yourself and decide...take a look at their nice FB page as well: http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Oregonian/211155914842 Coming to theatres on 2011 Starring: Lindsay Pulsipher, Robert Longstreet, Matt Olsen

Larry Blackwood said he filmed video of a man who was covered in blood and holding a knife after a fatal stabbing on a MAX train in Northeast Portland on May 26, 2017. Blackwood said the man pictured in the video is suspected in the stabbing, which left two dead and one injured. Blackwood didn’t see police take the man into custody, he said, because officers cleared the scene. Read more at The Oregonian/OregonLive here: http://s.oregonlive.com/SFeDcXM

When the Oregonian Media Group approached Leopold Ketel to help them introduce their new compact edition, we jumped at the chance. The new paper was clean, beautifully designed and easy-to-read, but how could we best tell that to a wider audience who had never seen the product firsthand and were understandably skeptical? After many discussions about how the new edition would mean no more complicated newspaper “origami” — folding and unfolding and accidentally elbowing the guy sitting next to you on the MAX — we settled on a classic but relevant metaphor: the butterfly. With the help of BENT Image Labs, we made a gorgeous stop-motion film showing the old paper slowly transforming into its new self. And because newspaper readers have no time for spin — they want the facts — we implemented...

Vignette of my week-long stay in Portland, OR with my sister-in-law and my brother, Brandon, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma six weeks prior. I am moving to Central Asia in a few weeks, so this time was emotional — a very real goodbye, as I go to live in a somewhat dangerous part of the world and my brother struggles against cancer. Tough times, but we were more than able to find the joy in each other. So grateful! It's not a perfect video by any means but I wanted to capture the week. More info on me and my brother here: http://howbrandonbeatscancer.wordpress.com and http://theburdenofmystery.com. Music by Oaken Voices, a project of Brandon Denton, who is also pictured in the video and is my brother's double-doppelganger. More of his music here: http://oakenvoices.wordpress....
