The points of the compass are points on a compass, specifically on the compass rose, marking divisions of the four cardinal directions: North, South, East, West. The number of points may be only the 4 cardinal points, or the 8 principal points adding the intercardinal (or ordinal) directions northeast (NE), southeast (SE), southwest (SW), and northwest (NW). In meteorological usage further intermediate points are added to give the sixteen points of a wind compass. Finally, at the most complete in European tradition, are found the full thirty-two points of the mariner's compass. In ancient China 24 points of the compass were used.
In the mariner's exercise of boxing the compass, all thirty-two points of the compass are named in clockwise order. The names of intermediate points are formed by the initials of the cardinal directions and their intermediate ordinal directions, and are very handy to refer to a heading (or course or azimuth) in a general or colloquial fashion, without having to resort to computing or recalling degrees. For most applications, the minor points have been superseded by degrees measured clockwise from North.
East is a noun, adjective, or adverb indicating direction or geography. East is one of the four cardinal directions or compass points. It is the opposite of west and is perpendicular to north and south.
The word east comes from Middle English est, from Old English ēast, which itself comes from the Proto-Germanic *aus-to- or *austra- "east, toward the sunrise", from Proto-Indo-European *aus- "to shine," or "dawn". This is similar to Old High German *ōstar "to the east", Latin aurora "dawn", and Greek ēōs or heōs.Ēostre, a Germanic goddess of dawn, might have been a personification of both dawn and the cardinal points.
By convention, the right hand side of a map is east. This convention has developed from the use of a compass, which places north at the top.
To go east using a compass for navigation, set a bearing or azimuth of 90°.
East is the direction toward which the Earth rotates about its axis, and therefore the general direction from which the Sun appears to rise. The practice of praying towards the East is older than Christianity, but has been adopted by this religion as the Orient was thought of as containing mankind's original home. Hence, most Christian churches are oriented towards the east.
North is a noun, adjective, or adverb indicating direction or geography. North is one of the four cardinal directions or compass points. It is the opposite of south and is perpendicular to east and west.
The word north is related to the Old High German nord, both descending from the Proto-Indo-European unit ner-, meaning "down" (or "under"). (Presumably a natural primitive description of its concept is "to the left of the rising sun".)
The Latin word borealis comes from the Greek boreas "north wind, north", which, according to Ovid, was personified as the son of the river-god Strymon, the father of Calais and Zetes. Septentrionalis is from septentriones, "the seven plow oxen", a name of Ursa Maior. The Greek arktikos is named for the same constellation, and is the derivation of the English word "Arctic".
Other languages have sometimes more interesting derivations. For example, in Lezgian, kefer can mean both 'disbelief' and 'north', since to the north of the Muslim Lezgian homeland there are areas formerly inhabited by non-Muslim Caucasian and Turkic peoples. In many languages of Mesoamerica, "north" also means "up". In Hungarian the word for north is észak, which is derived from éjszaka ("night"), since above the Tropic of Cancer, the Sun never shines from the north.
India, officially the Republic of India (Bhārat Gaṇarājya), is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world. Bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the south-west, and the Bay of Bengal on the south-east, it shares land borders with Pakistan to the west;China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east; and Myanmar (Burma) and Bangladesh to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives; in addition, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia.
Home to the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation and a region of historic trade routes and vast empires, the Indian subcontinent was identified with its commercial and cultural wealth for much of its long history. Four religions—Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism—originated here, whereas Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam arrived in the 1st millennium CE and also shaped the region's diverse culture. Gradually annexed by and brought under the administration of the British East India Company from the early 18th century and administered directly by the United Kingdom after the Indian Rebellion of 1857, India became an independent nation in 1947 after a struggle for independence that was marked by non-violent resistance led by Mahatma Gandhi.
A Gentlemen's Race is a type of unsanctioned, unmarshalled road ride established in the Pacific Northwest, USA in 2008. Inspired by the sort of riding of the Rapha Continental project, with a notion of Classic cycle races, a penchant for gravel and an appreciation of the small communities, people and places in outlying areas, the Gentlemen's Race was meant to push the boundaries typical of Bicycle racing.
Taking cues from the famous running relay race Hood-to-Coast, where teams of 12 runners work together to race 187-miles from Mt. Hood to the Pacific Ocean, the Gentlemen's Race was first run around the northern base of Mt. Hood back to Portland with two checkpoints along the way to ensure fair play and safety.
Using a proprietary ranking and handicap system, teams of six riders depart with those estimated to be slowest first and the fastest departing last. Part Team time trial, part Alleycat races, part Cannonball Run, the teams must work and stay together the entire race. That factor above anything else is a great leveler for the race.

The area of India beyond the Siliguri junction squeezing through Nepal and Bangladesh is a relatively unexplored area as far as tourism, especially the "7 sister" states of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. This region is wildly diverse, and aptly earns it's name of being "paradise unexplored." This documentary features 9 states of India, where we explore the places, eat the food, and meet the people. 40 LifeHacks that Save Over $2000 a Month ($4.99): http://thetickettotravel.com/product/40-lifehacks-that-save-over-2000-dollars-per-month-ebook/ Become a Patron: https://www.patreon.com/thetickettotravel Make a Donation: http://thetickettotravel.com/support Shop on Amazon through us (Bookmark it!): http://amzn.to/2buk3SZ Check out our Website...

How many in this Country India really believe that The North-east are also Indians? was the question of this Ad. of KBC 2014 Kaun Banega Crorepati, an iconic adaptation of Who Wants to be a Millionaire is another such. The show, already in its eighth season with Amitabh Bachchan, who has been in the host seat for all seasons except the third, over the last few seasons has sharpened its pitch and evolved. The first promos for the forthcoming season were particularly interesting for the fact that like earlier years, they brought into focus a pertinent subject that has been swept under the carpet for the longest while— inclusion of North East into the mainstream Indian narrative. With their Mongoloid features, the people in India’s northeastern region not only look different, but their cultures also set them apart from the rest of the country. While big cities in India are cosmopolitan, northeastern women routinely face harassment and discrimination, as they are presumed to be “fast and loose” by some men. In this video, Vida Z., a public affairs professional from Mizoram and who has lived in Delhi and Bengaluru, shares what it’s like walking on the streets in the two cities as a northeastern woman, and how she was discouraged from filing a police complaint after a man attempted to molest her. But it’s not just about sexual harassment, as there’s also a dimension of racism here, she stresses. What compounds her concern is that there’s no law against racism in Indi...

Combine these and you have the 2011 North East Rapha Gentlemen’s Race. A 134-mile chain of beautiful scenery, grueling climbs, challenging surfaces through little-known areas of Eastern Pennsylvania.

The Converse China team once again embarked on a journey, this time to the northern neighboring country of Russia. While Skateboarding is booming within China, the team was looking for something more obscure to skateboard and the Far East sounded like perfect option. The only problem was that no one expected it to be freezing in April. Besides dealing with the language barrier, skateboarding on rough terrain, the gang had to get accustomed to traditional soviet style ice swimming and much more.
