This heartbreaking footage was taken in the Serengeti National Park back in 1994, when a canine distemper epidemic spread by scavenging dogs helped to spread the virus amongst the park's population, killing one third of its lions in the process.In the 1993 documentary Jurassic Park about a real life island full of dinosaurs which definitely exists, all of the dinosaurs are made into females in order to prevent them from breeding. Continuing with the life finds a way movie theme; you may remember the scene from Ridley Scott's 1979 Romantic comedy film Alien, where a lovesick xenomorph engages in a casual fling with a spaceship officer, only for their brief love affair to come to a messy ending when the alien tears out of his chest and starts hitting on his co-workers.Oh no what's Mother Nature done now? Murdered a whole bunch of penguins just for the hell of it? What's this? A blood tidal wave? No such luck. Mammatus or Mammatocumulus is a genuine meteorological term used to describe when clouds sag down in pouches beneath the base of a cloud, taking their name from the Latin word mamma, which means udder or breast. This astonishing display may look like the beginning of the rapture or an alien invasion, but it's actually an optical phenomenon caused by light reflecting off the surface of millions of tiny ice crystals as they gradually fall to Earth. Tangshan Earthquake 1976
Tangshan was an industrial city in the People's Republic of China. It was also the epicenter of a magnitude-8 earthquake in 1976. The densely populated city numbered about one million residents before the devastating quake. The death toll was estimated at over 240,000 people, or close to a quarter of the city’s population.

China Central Floods -- Following years of sustained drought conditions, China was bombarded by heavy rainfall in 1931 … and it never seemed to stop. The Yangtze River burst its banks and flooded several areas. That was followed by the Yellow River and the Huai River both overflowing. The devastating results included nearly 4 million people dead from drowning, disease, and starvation. More than a quarter of China’s population at the time -- or over 51 million people were affected by the Central China Floods.

1918 Flu Pandemic
Striking in three waves, the Influenza Pandemic killed more people than died in World War 1. The origins of the disease still aren’t clear … but one theory suggests the first wave in 1918 can be traced to Haskell County, Kansas in the US. When soldiers on leave from Camp Funston -- now known as Fort Riley -- visited relatives in Haskell, they may have contracted the infectious disease and unknowingly carried it with them back to the base. As the soldiers moved on to other bases, the disease seemed to follow their movements. Other theories suggest the disease was first observed in Europe and parts of Asia. Whatever its true origins, it didn’t take long for the disease to spread all around the world, infecting an estimated 500 million people. The second wave was the deadliest, known to kill victims within two days after symptoms appeared. The third and final wave hit in the spring of 1919 … by summer of that year, the virus had seemingly run its course, having killed up to 50 million victims. It was also known as the Spanish Flu … due to Spain’s neutrality in World War 1, newspapers there were not censored from reporting stories about the flu … that gave the false impression that Spain was especially hit hard by the disease.

Toba Super-eruption -- Around 75,000 years ago there was a supervolcanic eruption at the site of present-day Lake Toba, located in Sumatra, Indonesia. The Toba Catastrophe Theory holds that the event triggered a global volcanic winter that lasted up to a decade … and may also have triggered a cooling episode that lasted 1,000 years. Volcanic winter is caused by volcanic ash that blocks the sun and the Toba event may have caused average global surface temperatures to drop up to 5 degrees Celsius. That extreme alteration of environment may have produced a global ecological disaster that destroyed food sources of humans, resulting in a drastic reduction of population … possibly whittling the human race down to no more than 10,000 mating pairs … and some sources claim only 40 such pairs were left at one point. There is evidence suggesting today’s humans are descendants of a small population of up to 10,000 mating pairs that existed around 70,000 years ago … which would coincide with the Toba Super-eruption. To paraphrase an old saying, never wake a sleeping volcano … and this one woke up with a vengeance. After laying dormant the past three years, Japan’s Mount Sakurajima (sak-or-a-jeema) erupted with a spectacular display of lightning, smoke and flowing lava. Located on the southern island of Kyushu (key-oo-shoe), the 3600-foot high volcano belched forth a column of ash that rose more than 16,000 feet … which was about the same size of the ash plume spewed during the last eruption in 2013. And how did volcanic lightning manage to develop inside that massive plume? Actually scientists have debated if the lightning is caused by ice particles forming in the plumes or whether it’s caused by the electrostatic discharge of the ash itself. There’s evidence that both mechanisms can create different types of lightning inside erupting volcanoes. As opposed to lightning that forms in thunderclouds, volcanic lightning often travels upwards or sideways through an ash cloud. Thankfully, no casualties were reported due to the eruption … or the lightning.

In March 25th, 2015 Chile’s Atacama Desert, one of the world’s driest places, experienced what would be 14 years of local rain all fell at once in 24 hours. The Atacama Desert usually only gets .07 inches of rain every year, but on that day in March, it received nearly one whole inch of rain. This caused a flooding of the Copiapo River and claimed at least nine lives.
# 6 2009 Supercell Thunderstorm in Nebraska
In 2009, a supercell formed above Nebraska and ripped through the state. It was a huge stormy cloud that looked like an ominous UFO and shot lightning bolts all over the place. It even formed a few tornadoes. A few brave storm chasers got some close-up photos of the storm cell despite the multiple miles per hour winds, lightning, and thunder.
# 5 Typhoon Haiyan
Typhoon Haiyan also known as Super Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines was one of the most intense tropical cyclones ever recorded and absolutely devastated parts of Southeast Asia but most of the damage was done to the Philippines. It reached high wind speeds of 195 miles per hour and did 2.86 billion US dollars of damage. It was extremely fatal, too; resulting in at least 6,000 lives lost. To this day, the Philippines is still repairing the damage done by this hurricane.
# 4 2011 Tohuku Earthquake
In 2011, Japan was victim to an offshore earthquake that triggered a tsunami that reached as high as 90 feet in some areas. The tsunami ravaged many parts of the country and resulted in nearly 16,000 deaths, and 2,500 people reported missing, many of whom have remained missing to this day. It is widely thought to be the deadliest earthquake and tsunami in Japanese history, possibly in part because of the subsequent nuclear meltdown of the Fukushima Power Plant.
# 3 Hurricanes Fay and Gonzalo
In October of 2014th, Bermuda experienced the huge misfortune of two different hurricanes within a single week. Hurricane Fay made landfall on October 12th and was followed by Hurricane Gonzalo on October 18th. Fay knocked out power to most of Bermuda’s residents, and Gonzalo was one of the strongest hurricanes to hit the area, leaving behind nearly 400 million dollars of damage.
# 2 Super Derecho
A derecho is a long-lived and straight-line windstorm that can cause hurricane-force winds, flash floods, and tornadoes. Derechos are pretty intense events. In 2012, something called a “super derecho” formed and left a line of destruction from the Midwest to the mid-Atlantic. Most of the state of Virginia experienced a power outage, power lines snapped in half, and eighteen wheel trucks toppled over. A super derecho can cause an increase in tornado formations like in 2009 when a derecho system conjured 45 tornadoes that hit the ground and caused several casualties.

A volcanic eruption can emit so many particles that it will actually cause enough friction to trigger a lightning strike. When a volcano violently spews up ash particles, they rub against ice particles that are in the sky and cause lightning. The result is this crazy combination of fire and electricity. You definitely don’t want to be next to this volcano when it erupts.

Mother Nature (sometimes known as Mother Earth or the Earth-Mother), is a common personification of nature that focuses on the life-giving and nurturing aspects of nature by embodying it ,in the form of the mother.
Western tradition history
The word "nature" comes from the Latin word, "natura," meaning birth or character (see nature (innate)). In English its first recorded use (in the sense of the entirety of the phenomena of the world) was in 1266 A.D.. "Natura", and the personification of Mother Nature, was widely popular in the Middle Ages. As a concept, seated between the properly divine and the human, it can be traced to Ancient Greece, though Earth (or "Eorthe" in the Old English period) may have been personified as a goddess. The Norse also had a goddess called Jord (or Earth).
The earliest written dated literal references to the term "Mother Earth" occur in Mycenaean Greek. Ma-ka (transliterated as ma-ga), "Mother Gaia", written in Linear B syllabic script (13th or 12th century BC). The various myths of nature goddesses such as Inanna/Ishtar (myths and hymns attested on Mesopotamian tablets as early as the 3rd millennium BC) show that the personification of the creative and nurturing sides of nature as female deities has deep roots. In Greece, the pre-Socratic philosophers had "invented" nature when they abstracted the entirety of phenomena of the world as singular: physis, and this was inherited by Aristotle. Later medieval Christian thinkers did not see nature as inclusive of everything, but thought that she had been created by God; her place lay on earth, below the unchanging heavens and moon. Nature lay somewhere in the center, with agents above her (angels), and below her (demons and hell). For the medieval mind she was only a personification, not a goddess.

Mother
Mothers are women who inhabit or perform the role of bearing some relation to their children, who may or may not be their biological offspring. Thus, dependent on the context, women can be considered mothers by virtue of having given birth, by raising their child(ren), supplying their ovum for fertilization, or some combination thereof. Such conditions provide a way of delineating the concept of motherhood, or the state of being a mother. The parallel conditions and terms for males: those who are (typically biologically) fathers do not, by definition, take up the role of fatherhood. It should also be noted that mother and fatherhood are not limited to those who are or have parented. Tangshan Earthquake 1976 Tangshan was an industrial city in the People's Republic of China. It was also the epicenter of a magnitude-8 earthquake in 1976. The densely populated city numbered about one million residents before the devastating quake. The death toll was estimated at over 240,000 people, or close to a quarter of the city’s population. 4. China Central Floods -- Following years of sustained drought conditions, China was bombarded by heavy rainfall in 1931 … and it never seemed to stop. The Yangtze River burst its banks and flooded several areas. That was followed by the Yellow River and the Huai River both overflowing. The devastating results included nearly 4 million people dead from drowning, disease, and starvation. More than a quarter of China’s population at the time -- or over 51 million people were affected by the Central China Floods. 3. 1918 Flu Pandemic Striking in three waves, the Influenza Pandemic killed more people than died in World War 1. The origins of the disease still aren’t clear … but one theory suggests the first wave in 1918 can be traced to Haskell County, Kansas in the US. When soldiers on leave from Camp Funston -- now known as Fort Riley -- visited relatives in Haskell, they may have contracted the infectious disease and unknowingly carried it with them back to the base. As the soldiers moved on to other bases, the disease seemed to follow their movements. Other theories suggest the disease was first observed in Europe and parts of Asia. Whatever its true origins, it didn’t take long for the disease to spread all around the world, infecting an estimated 500 million people. The second wave was the deadliest, known to kill victims within two days after symptoms appeared. The third and final wave hit in the spring of 1919 … by summer of that year, the virus had seemingly run its course, having killed up to 50 million victims. It was also known as the Spanish Flu … due to Spain’s neutrality in World War 1, newspapers there were not censored from reporting stories about the flu … that gave the false impression that Spain was especially hit hard by the disease. 2. Toba Super-eruption -- Around 75,000 years ago there was a supervolcanic eruption at the site of present-day Lake Toba, located in Sumatra, Indonesia. The Toba Catastrophe Theory holds that the event triggered a global volcanic winter that lasted up to a decade … and may also have triggered a cooling episode that lasted 1,000 years. Volcanic winter is caused by volcanic ash that blocks the sun and the Toba event may have caused average global surface temperatures to drop up to 5 degrees Celsius. That extreme alteration of environment may have produced a global ecological disaster that destroyed food sources of humans, resulting in a drastic reduction of population … possibly whittling the human race down to no more than 10,000 mating pairs … and some sources claim only 40 such pairs were left at one point. There is evidence suggesting today’s humans are descendants of a small population of up to 10,000 mating pairs that existed around 70,000 years ago … which would coincide with the Toba Super-eruption. To paraphrase an old saying, never wake a sleeping volcano … and this one woke up with a vengeance. After laying dormant the past three years, Japan’s Mount Sakurajima (sak-or-a-jeema) erupted with a spectacular display of lightning, smoke and flowing lava. Located on the southern island of Kyushu (key-oo-shoe), the 3600-foot high volcano belched forth a column of ash that rose more than 16,000 feet … which was about the same size of the ash plume spewed during the last eruption in 2013. And how did volcanic lightning manage to develop inside that massive plume? Actually scientists have debated if the lightning is caused by ice particles forming in the plumes or whether it’s caused by the electrostatic discharge of the ash itself. There’s evidence that both mechanisms can create different types of lightning inside erupting volcanoes. As opposed to lightning that forms in thunderclouds, volcanic lightning often travels upwards or sideways through an ash cloud. Thankfully, no casualties were reported due to the eruption … or the lightning. The Atacama Desert usually only gets .07 inches of rain every year, but on that day in March, it received nearly one whole inch of rain. This caused a flooding of the Copiapo River and claimed at least nine lives. # 6 2009 Supercell Thunderstorm in Nebraska In 2009, a supercell formed above Nebraska and ripped through the state. It was a huge stormy cloud that looked like an ominous UFO and shot lightning bolts all over the place. It even formed a few tornadoes. A few brave storm chasers got some close-up photos of the storm cell despite the multiple miles per hour winds, lightning, and thunder. # 5 Typhoon Haiyan Typhoon Haiyan also known as Super Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines was one of the most intense tropical cyclones ever recorded and absolutely devastated parts of Southeast Asia but most of the damage was done to the Philippines. It reached high wind speeds of 195 miles per hour and did 2.86 billion US dollars of damage. It was extremely fatal, too; resulting in at least 6,000 lives lost. To this day, the Philippines is still repairing the damage done by this hurricane. # 4 2011 Tohuku Earthquake In 2011, Japan was victim to an offshore earthquake that triggered a tsunami that reached as high as 90 feet in some areas. The tsunami ravaged many parts of the country and resulted in nearly 16,000 deaths, and 2,500 people reported missing, many of whom have remained missing to this day. It is widely thought to be the deadliest earthquake and tsunami in Japanese history, possibly in part because of the subsequent nuclear meltdown of the Fukushima Power Plant. # 3 Hurricanes Fay and Gonzalo In October of 2014th, Bermuda experienced the huge misfortune of two different hurricanes within a single week. Hurricane Fay made landfall on October 12th and was followed by Hurricane Gonzalo on October 18th. Fay knocked out power to most of Bermuda’s residents, and Gonzalo was one of the strongest hurricanes to hit the area, leaving behind nearly 400 million dollars of damage. # 2 Super Derecho A derecho is a long-lived and straight-line windstorm that can cause hurricane-force winds, flash floods, and tornadoes. Derechos are pretty intense events. In 2012, something called a “super derecho” formed and left a line of destruction from the Midwest to the mid-Atlantic. Most of the state of Virginia experienced a power outage, power lines snapped in half, and eighteen wheel trucks toppled over. A super derecho can cause an increase in tornado formations like in 2009 when a derecho system conjured 45 tornadoes that hit the ground and caused several casualties. # 1 Dirty Thunderstorm A volcanic eruption can emit so many particles that it will actually cause enough friction to trigger a lightning strike. When a volcano violently spews up ash particles, they rub against ice particles that are in the sky and cause lightning. The result is this crazy combination of fire and electricity. You definitely don’t want to be next to this volcano when it erupts.

One day, Ophelia's brother Larry brings home a broomstick he stole from "some witch." The family is startled when a real witch shows up on their doorstep demanding the broom, which Ophelia has broken. A new magic broomstick from Denmark costs $7,500. The witch demands either Dad sell his beloved pickup truck, or hand over his daughter. For Dad, it's no contest, and the witch takes Ophelia away on an upright vacuum cleaner into the night. Ophelia becomes the witch's apprentice and undergoes a detox from years of booze, cigarettes and junk food. The Witch is an herbalist belonging to a Council of Superheroines comprising of the Chocolatier, who makes magic chocolates for pre-menstrual women; the Librarian, a fount of knowledge; and Mother Nature, 4.5 billion years old and sick from endless pollution. The Council has such huge financial problems in these post-feminist times, their chances of raising the money for a new broom seem slim. Having forsaken automobiles to help Mother Nature, the Council is dependent on the broom to navigate Los Angeles - public transportation is lousy and the vacuum cleaner just won't cut it. What will happen to all the women in L.A. who are being harassed, underpaid, and charged more for dry cleaning? To make matters worse, there's a villainous counterpart for each Superheroine; Cosmetic Chick; The Doucher, a marketer of "feminine protection" products; The Hag; Virginia Svelte, the cigarette-promoting leader of the pack; and Ophelia's best friend Tina, who is transformed into "Bitch on Wheels," graduating from Rollerblades to a Mercedes. The villains have corporate America on their side and are out to send the womens' movement packing. Ophelia is given an Instinct Doll by the Superheroines that talks and gives her good but tough advice. Ophelia is then kidnapped by Virginia Svelte and brought to the Babepad, where the villains enjoy a cushy existence. Striking in three waves, the Influenza Pandemic killed more people than died in World War 1. The origins of the disease still aren’t clear … but one theory suggests the first wave in 1918 can be traced to Haskell County, Kansas in the US. When soldiers on leave from Camp Funston -- now known as Fort Riley -- visited relatives in Haskell, they may have contracted the infectious disease and unknowingly carried it with them back to the base. As the soldiers moved on to other bases, the disease seemed to follow their movements. Other theories suggest the disease was first observed in Europe and parts of Asia. Whatever its true origins, it didn’t take long for the disease to spread all around the world, infecting an estimated 500 million people. The second wave was the deadliest, known to kill victims within two days after symptoms appeared. The third and final wave hit in the spring of 1919 … by summer of that year, the virus had seemingly run its course, having killed up to 50 million victims. It was also known as the Spanish Flu … due to Spain’s neutrality in World War 1, newspapers there were not censored from reporting stories about the flu … that gave the false impression that Spain was especially hit hard by the disease.

Toba Super-eruption -- Around 75,000 years ago there was a supervolcanic eruption at the site of present-day Lake Toba, located in Sumatra, Indonesia. The Toba Catastrophe Theory holds that the event triggered a global volcanic winter that lasted up to a decade … and may also have triggered a cooling episode that lasted 1,000 years. Volcanic winter is caused by volcanic ash that blocks the sun and the Toba event may have caused average global surface temperatures to drop up to 5 degrees Celsius. That extreme alteration of environment may have produced a global ecological disaster that destroyed food sources of humans, resulting in a drastic reduction of population … possibly whittling the human race down to no more than 10,000 mating pairs … and some sources claim only 40 such pairs were left at one point. There is evidence suggesting today’s humans are descendants of a small population of up to 10,000 mating pairs that existed around 70,000 years ago … which would coincide with the Toba Super-eruption. To paraphrase an old saying, never wake a sleeping volcano … and this one woke up with a vengeance. After laying dormant the past three years, Japan’s Mount Sakurajima (sak-or-a-jeema) erupted with a spectacular display of lightning, smoke and flowing lava. Located on the southern island of Kyushu (key-oo-shoe), the 3600-foot high volcano belched forth a column of ash that rose more than 16,000 feet … which was about the same size of the ash plume spewed during the last eruption in 2013. And how did volcanic lightning manage to develop inside that massive plume? Actually scientists have debated if the lightning is caused by ice particles forming in the plumes or whether it’s caused by the electrostatic discharge of the ash itself. There’s evidence that both mechanisms can create different types of lightning inside erupting volcanoes. As opposed to lightning that forms in thunderclouds, volcanic lightning often travels upwards or sideways through an ash cloud. Thankfully, no casualties were reported due to the eruption … or the lightning.

Located on the southern island of Kyushu (key-oo-shoe), the 3600-foot high volcano belched forth a column of ash that rose more than 16,000 feet … which was about the same size of the ash plume spewed during the last eruption in 2013. And how did volcanic lightning manage to develop inside that massive plume? Actually scientists have debated if the lightning is caused by ice particles forming in the plumes or whether it’s caused by the electrostatic discharge of the ash itself. There’s evidence that both mechanisms can create different types of lightning inside erupting volcanoes. As opposed to lightning that forms in thunderclouds, volcanic lightning often travels upwards or sideways through an ash cloud. Thankfully, no casualties were reported due to the eruption … or the lightning.

In March 25th, 2015 Chile’s Atacama Desert, one of the world’s driest places, experienced what would be 14 years of local rain all fell at once in 24 hours. The Atacama Desert usually only gets .07 inches of rain every year, but on that day in March, it received nearly one whole inch of rain. This caused a flooding of the Copiapo River and claimed at least nine lives.
# 6 2009 Supercell Thunderstorm in Nebraska
In 2009, a supercell formed above Nebraska and ripped through the state. It was a huge stormy cloud that looked like an ominous UFO and shot lightning bolts all over the place. It even formed a few tornadoes. A few brave storm chasers got some close-up photos of the storm cell despite the multiple miles per hour winds, lightning, and thunder.
# 5 Typhoon Haiyan
Typhoon Haiyan also known as Super Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines was one of the most intense tropical cyclones ever recorded and absolutely devastated parts of Southeast Asia but most of the damage was done to the Philippines. It reached high wind speeds of 195 miles per hour and did 2.86 billion US dollars of damage. It was extremely fatal, too; resulting in at least 6,000 lives lost. To this day, the Philippines is still repairing the damage done by this hurricane.
# 4 2011 Tohuku Earthquake
In 2011, Japan was victim to an offshore earthquake that triggered a tsunami that reached as high as 90 feet in some areas. The tsunami ravaged many parts of the country and resulted in nearly 16,000 deaths, and 2,500 people reported missing, many of whom have remained missing to this day. It is widely thought to be the deadliest earthquake and tsunami in Japanese history, possibly in part because of the subsequent nuclear meltdown of the Fukushima Power Plant.
# 3 Hurricanes Fay and Gonzalo
In October of 2014th, Bermuda experienced the huge misfortune of two different hurricanes within a single week. Hurricane Fay made landfall on October 12th and was followed by Hurricane Gonzalo on October 18th. Fay knocked out power to most of Bermuda’s residents, and Gonzalo was one of the strongest hurricanes to hit the area, leaving behind nearly 400 million dollars of damage.

A derecho is a long-lived and straight-line windstorm that can cause hurricane-force winds, flash floods, and tornadoes. Derechos are pretty intense events. In 2012, something called a “super derecho” formed and left a line of destruction from the Midwest to the mid-Atlantic. Most of the state of Virginia experienced a power outage, power lines snapped in half, and eighteen wheel trucks toppled over. A super derecho can cause an increase in tornado formations like in 2009 when a derecho system conjured 45 tornadoes that hit the ground and caused several casualties.

When a volcano violently spews up ash particles, they rub against ice particles that are in the sky and cause lightning. The result is this crazy combination of fire and electricity. Tangshan Earthquake 1976
Tangshan was an industrial city in the People's Republic of China. It was also the epicenter of a magnitude-8 earthquake in 1976. The densely populated city numbered about one million residents before the devastating quake. The death toll was estimated at over 240,000 people, or close to a quarter of the city’s population.

China Central Floods -- Following years of sustained drought conditions, China was bombarded by heavy rainfall in 1931 … and it never seemed to stop. The Yangtze River burst its banks and flooded several areas. That was followed by the Yellow River and the Huai River both overflowing. The devastating results included nearly 4 million people dead from drowning, disease, and starvation. More than a quarter of China’s population at the time -- or over 51 million people were affected by the Central China Floods.

1918 Flu Pandemic
Striking in three waves, the Influenza Pandemic killed more people than died in World War 1. The origins of the disease still aren’t clear … but one theory suggests the first wave in 1918 can be traced to Haskell County, Kansas in the US. When soldiers on leave from Camp Funston -- now known as Fort Riley -- visited relatives in Haskell, they may have contracted the infectious disease and unknowingly carried it with them back to the base. As the soldiers moved on to other bases, the disease seemed to follow their movements. Other theories suggest the disease was first observed in Europe and parts of Asia. Whatever its true origins, it didn’t take long for the disease to spread all around the world, infecting an estimated 500 million people. The second wave was the deadliest, known to kill victims within two days after symptoms appeared. The third and final wave hit in the spring of 1919 … by summer of that year, the virus had seemingly run its course, having killed up to 50 million victims. It was also known as the Spanish Flu … due to Spain’s neutrality in World War 1, newspapers there were not censored from reporting stories about the flu … that gave the false impression that Spain was especially hit hard by the disease.

Toba Super-eruption -- Around 75,000 years ago there was a supervolcanic eruption at the site of present-day Lake Toba, located in Sumatra, Indonesia. The Toba Catastrophe Theory holds that the event triggered a global volcanic winter that lasted up to a decade … and may also have triggered a cooling episode that lasted 1,000 years. Volcanic winter is caused by volcanic ash that blocks the sun and the Toba event may have caused average global surface temperatures to drop up to 5 degrees Celsius. That extreme alteration of environment may have produced a global ecological disaster that destroyed food sources of humans, resulting in a drastic reduction of population … possibly whittling the human race down to no more than 10,000 mating pairs … and some sources claim only 40 such pairs were left at one point. There is evidence suggesting today’s humans are descendants of a small population of up to 10,000 mating pairs that existed around 70,000 years ago … which would coincide with the Toba Super-eruption. To paraphrase an old saying, never wake a sleeping volcano … and this one woke up with a vengeance. After laying dormant the past three years, Japan’s Mount Sakurajima (sak-or-a-jeema) erupted with a spectacular display of lightning, smoke and flowing lava. Located on the southern island of Kyushu (key-oo-shoe), the 3600-foot high volcano belched forth a column of ash that rose more than 16,000 feet … which was about the same size of the ash plume spewed during the last eruption in 2013. And how did volcanic lightning manage to develop inside that massive plume? Actually scientists have debated if the lightning is caused by ice particles forming in the plumes or whether it’s caused by the electrostatic discharge of the ash itself. There’s evidence that both mechanisms can create different types of lightning inside erupting volcanoes. As opposed to lightning that forms in thunderclouds, volcanic lightning often travels upwards or sideways through an ash cloud. Thankfully, no casualties were reported due to the eruption … or the lightning.

It even formed a few tornadoes. A few brave storm chasers got some close-up photos of the storm cell despite the multiple miles per hour winds, lightning, and thunder.

Typhoon Haiyan also known as Super Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines was one of the most intense tropical cyclones ever recorded and absolutely devastated parts of Southeast Asia but most of the damage was done to the Philippines. It reached high wind speeds of 195 miles per hour and did 2.86 billion US dollars of damage. It was extremely fatal, too; resulting in at least 6,000 lives lost. To this day, the Philippines is still repairing the damage done by this hurricane.
# 4 2011 Tohuku Earthquake
In 2011, Japan was victim to an offshore earthquake that triggered a tsunami that reached as high as 90 feet in some areas. The tsunami ravaged many parts of the country and resulted in nearly 16,000 deaths, and 2,500 people reported missing, many of whom have remained missing to this day. It is widely thought to be the deadliest earthquake and tsunami in Japanese history, possibly in part because of the subsequent nuclear meltdown of the Fukushima Power Plant.
# 3 Hurricanes Fay and Gonzalo
In October of 2014th, Bermuda experienced the huge misfortune of two different hurricanes within a single week. Hurricane Fay made landfall on October 12th and was followed by Hurricane Gonzalo on October 18th. Fay knocked out power to most of Bermuda’s residents, and Gonzalo was one of the strongest hurricanes to hit the area, leaving behind nearly 400 million dollars of damage.

A derecho is a long-lived and straight-line windstorm that can cause hurricane-force winds, flash floods, and tornadoes. Derechos are pretty intense events. In 2012, something called a “super derecho” formed and left a line of destruction from the Midwest to the mid-Atlantic. Most of the state of Virginia experienced a power outage, power lines snapped in half, and eighteen wheel trucks toppled over. A super derecho can cause an increase in tornado formations like in 2009 when a derecho system conjured 45 tornadoes that hit the ground and caused several casualties.

A volcanic eruption can emit so many particles that it will actually cause enough friction to trigger a lightning strike. When a volcano violently spews up ash particles, they rub against ice particles that are in the sky and cause lightning. The result is this crazy combination of fire and electricity. 12 Hearts Game Rules:
This game show consists of twelve contestants divided into two groups (usually four men and eight women, but sometimes vice versa). Each of the contestants is identified and referred by their zodiac sign. The host facilitates different activities that allow the contestants from each group to get to know each other intimately, like singing a song, reciting a ridiculous poem, dancing with one another, kissing ect.
Once finished, the contestants must eliminate other contestants from the opposite groups by voting until this leaves only three contestants in the male group, and five in the female group.
In the final round, the host calls out the female participants one by one to choose their heart among the male participants. The male participants chosen have the option to accept or reject. There are a few twists and turns that can take place, like stealing someone’s chosen contestant, leaving empty handed, leaving with two contestants, or with a broken heart!
