Travel video about destination Esfahan in Iran.
With its historic centre, Esfahan is situated on the banks of the Zayandeh Rud River and is a gem of ancient Persia. In the centre of the historic city centre is the modest Pillar Halls Mosque which is thought to have been built above a fire temple. In around 1087, Seljuk vizier, Nizam Ol-Molk, had the pillar hall and its many small brick domes, completed. Due to a fire lit by the Assassins in 1121 A.D., the original mosque was destroyed. Following the death of Shah Abbas, around thirty thousand Christian Armenians settled in the Julfa district where they built the Savior Cathedral. Its interior features the history of the Christianisation of Armenia that is depicted on several illustrated panels created by the Holy Gregor. The grandeur of Islamic architecture is reflected in Emam Square, the central square of the Safavid Era, known as "The image of the world". It is seven times larger than the Piazza San Marco in Venice. To the south the square is lined by a domed structure which for some years has been known as the Emam Khomeini Mosque, perfectly aligned toward Mecca. Esfahan is an architectural work of art and today one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Isfahan (Persian: اصفهان Esfahān), historically also rendered in English as Ispahan, Sepahan or Hispahan, is the capital of Isfahan Province in Iran, located about 340 km south ofTehran. It has a population of 1,583,609, Iran's third largest city after Tehran and Mashhad. The Isfahan metropolitan area had a population of 3,430,353 in the 2006 Census, the second most populous metropolitan area in Iran after Tehran.
The cities of Najafabad, Se-deh (Homayounshahr, renamed Khomeinishahr since 1981), Khan Isfahan, Shahin-shahr, Zarrinshahr, Mobarakeh, Falavarjan and Fouladshahr all constitute the metropolitan city of Isfahan.
Isfahan is located on the main north-south and east-west routes crossing Iran, and was once one of the largest cities in the world. It flourished from 1050 to 1722, particularly in the 16th century under the Safavid dynasty, when it became the capital of Persia for the second time in its history. Even today, the city retains much of its past glory. It is famous for its Islamic architecture, with many beautiful boulevards, covered bridges, palaces, mosques, and minarets. This led to the Persian proverb "'Esfahān nesf-e jahān ast" (Isfahan is half of the world).
The Naghsh-e Jahan Square in Isfahan is one of the biggest city squares in the world and an outstanding example of Iranian and Islamic architecture. It has been designated byUNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The city also has a wide variety of historic monuments.

We ate and ate and ate! Briyani, Kebab, Koobideh, Juche, you name it!

Isfahan (Persian: اصفهان, 
pronunciation ), also Romanized as Esfahān historically also rendered in English as Ispahan, Sepahan, Esfahan or Hispahan, is the capital of Isfahan Province in Iran, located about 340 kilometres (211 miles) south of Tehran. At the 2011 census, it had a population of 1,756,126 and its built-up (or metro) area was home to 2,391,738 inhabitants including Khomeynishahr, Shahinshahr, Khvorasgan, Dorcheh Piaz, Falavarjan, Kelishad Va Sudarjan, Abrisham, Kushk and Kharizsang cities. The Greater Isfahan Region had a population of 3,793,104 in the 2011 Census, the third most populous metropolitan area in Iran after Tehran and Mashhad. The counties of Isfahan, Borkhar, Najafabad, Khomeynishahr, Shahinshahr, Mobarakeh, Falavarjan, Tiran o Karvan and Lenjan all constitute the metropolitan city of Isfahan.

Shahrdad Rohani
Shahrdad Rohani also spelled Shardad Rohani (Persian: شهرداد روحانی) born May 27, 1954 in Tehran, Iran is an Iranian-American composer, violinist/pianist, and conductor. His style is contemporary and he is well known for composing and conducting classical, instrumental, adult contemporary/new age, film soundtrack as well as pop music.
Early life
His father, Reza Rohani, was an accomplished musician and as a result, Shahrdad and all of his brothers including Anoushiravan Rohani and Ardeshir Rohani followed in their father’s footsteps. He began playing the piano at age 6, like many of his other brothers. As a child, he was a student to a well-known Persian violinist, Ebrahim Rouhifar. At age 10 he attended the Persian National Music Conservatory of Tehran. By 1975, he was studying Music Composition and Conducting at the Vienna Music Academy. By 1984 Shahrdad moved to Los Angeles to attend UCLA.
Musical career
From 1987 until 1991 Mr. Rohani served as the music director and conductor of the Conductor of the Arts (COTA) symphony orchestra in Los Angeles. He has appeared as a guest conductor with a number of prestigious orchestras including London's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Colorado Symphony Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony, Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras and many others.

With its historic centre, Esfahan is situated on the banks of the Zayandeh Rud River and is a gem of ancient Persia. In the centre of the historic city centre is the modest Pillar Halls Mosque which is thought to have been built above a fire temple. In around 1087, Seljuk vizier, Nizam Ol-Molk, had the pillar hall and its many small brick domes, completed. Due to a fire lit by the Assassins in 1121 A.D., the original mosque was destroyed. Following the death of Shah Abbas, around thirty thousand Christian Armenians settled in the Julfa district where they built the Savior Cathedral. Its interior features the history of the Christianisation of Armenia that is depicted on several illustrated panels created by the Holy Gregor. The grandeur of Islamic architecture is reflected in Emam Square, the central square of the Safavid Era, known as "The image of the world". It is seven times larger than the Piazza San Marco in Venice. To the south the square is lined by a domed structure which for some years has been known as the Emam Khomeini Mosque, perfectly aligned toward Mecca. Esfahan is an architectural work of art and today one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Isfahan is an incredible city rich with art, history, architecture and beauty. The fact that it’s not a commonly traveled tourist destination is logical to me. However, it really saddens me that many people will never see what this city has to offer. To make matters worse, there aren’t enough unique videos or pictures coming out to at least give a glimpse into this ancient modernized city. My trip was roughly 3 weeks long. In between seeing family and friends I tried to squeeze in time to take as many photos as I possibly could to hopefully create something that most of you have never seen. During our one month traveling in Iran we visited many amazing places. Isfahan (Esfahan) and Shiraz were one of the most memmorable cities. Compared to Tehran, our last stop, Isfahan is more traditional and conservative. This is why you can visit quite a few monumental sights here. We took 2 days to try the local cuisine and explore the best things to do in Isfahan such as roaming the world's second largest square, smoke shisha or visit the big mosques.
Due to it's centralized structure and the numerous parks Isfahan is a great city to explore for tourists - all major attractions can be found in and around the huge Naqsh-e Jahan Square.
We reached out to the local Couchsurfing community to get in touch with locales who could give us tips beyond the typical tourist sites - it didn't take long until Shayan reached out and offered us to show us his Esfahan. This way we got to see places and eat at restaurants we normally wouldn't have found ourselves. In this video We give a few recommendations of places to visit in Isfahan and typical persian dishes you should try when visiting.

It consists of a rectangular beautiful courtyard, delightful wall paintings by the royal painter Kamal-ol-molk, and three 40 meter tall wind towers which help cool the house to unusually cool temperatures. The house took eighteen years to build using 150 craftsmen. Isfahan is an incredible city rich with art, history, architecture and beauty. The fact that it’s not a commonly traveled tourist destination is logical to me. However, it really saddens me that many people will never see what this city has to offer. To make matters worse, there aren’t enough unique videos or pictures coming out to at least give a glimpse into this ancient modernized city.
My trip was roughly 3 weeks long. In between seeing family and friends I tried to squeeze in time to take as many photos as I possibly could to hopefully create something that most of you have never seen. There were some of the places I had to get special access to which took a bit of time. Some of the spots were off limits so a bit of bribing came into play. I wanted to make something that would even give the people of Esfahan a different look into their own city. Given I’m not a professional and the time I had to play with, it’s nowhere near perfect. There are countless places I did not get a chance to capture and made a lot of errors along the way.
Regardless, I’m still very proud with the end result and hope to have inspired some of you to travel there some day. Everything you are about to see is either a hyperlapse or a timelapse meaning they’re all pictures turned into film!

1 DSLR [ Nikon D5200 ]
2 lenses [ 18-55 mm f3.5-5.5g & 35mm f1.8g ]
+5,000 images
Roughly 120 gigabytes of footage
+100 hours of capturing, editing and processing

In Isfahan we visited Jāmeh Mosque, Siosehpol bridge and many other places. We also met three iranian students there. In Shiraz we visited Shah Cheragh mosque and we were invited to local shopkeepers home to meet his family. :) In next video we will show you our day in Persepolis - the capital of Persian empire.
