Ottawa/Macdonald–Cartier International Airport or Macdonald–Cartier International Airport (L'aéroport international Macdonald-Cartier in French), (IATA: YOW, ICAO: CYOW) in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada is an international airport named after Sir John A. Macdonald and Sir George-Étienne Cartier. Located in the south end of the city, 5.5 nautical miles (10.2 km; 6.3 mi) south of downtown Ottawa, it is Canada's sixth busiest airport and Ontario's second busiest airport by airline passenger traffic and Canada's eighth busiest by aircraft movements, with 4,616,448 passengers and 154,637 aircraft movements in 2014. The airport is an Air Canada focus city and the home base for First Air. The airport is classified as an airport of entry by Nav Canada and is staffed by the Canada Border Services Agency. The airport is one of eight Canadian airports that have United States border preclearance facilities. The airport used to be a military base known as CFB Ottawa South/CFB Uplands.
The Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) is an animation film festival in Ottawa, established in 1976. Its current Artistic director is Chris Robinson.
In 1976, the Canadian Film Institute founded the biennial Ottawa International Animation Festival. First held August 10 to 15, 1976, the OIAF created a gathering place for North American animation professionals and enthusiasts to ponder the craft and business of animation. It also provided their international colleagues with a unique opportunity to gain an appreciation for and access to the North American scene.
Canada's capital was a natural choice for an international animation festival. Home to animation innovator Norman McLaren, some of Canada's first private animation studios, and the former headquarters of the National Film Board, Ottawa's animation community provided a nurturing atmosphere for the fledgling festival.
In 1997, the OIAF launched the International Student Animation Festival of Ottawa (SAFO). Held in alternate years to the OIAF, the SAFO was created to provide a venue for student and emerging animators to draw extra attention to their work. Children, high school, undergraduate, graduate and first-time filmmakers were provided with a distinct venue to show their films, discuss issues, and meet other young filmmakers, animation educators, and industry representatives. When the OIAF moved from a biennial to an annual festival in 2005, the student categories become a part of the main festival.
Ottawa (i/ˈɒtəwə/ or /ˈɒtəwɑː/; French pronunciation: [ɔtawa]) is the capital city of Canada. It stands on the south bank of the Ottawa River in the eastern portion of Southern Ontario. Ottawa borders Gatineau, Quebec; the two form the core of the Ottawa–Gatineau census metropolitan area (CMA) and the National Capital Region (NCR). The 2011 census reported a population of 883,391 within the city, making it the fourth-largest city in Canada, and 1,236,324 within the CMA, making it the fourth-largest CMA in Canada. The City of Ottawa has since estimated it had a population of 951,727 in 2014.
Founded in 1826 as Bytown, and incorporated as "Ottawa" in 1855, the city has evolved into a political and technological centre of Canada. Its original boundaries were expanded through numerous minor annexations and were ultimately replaced by a new city incorporation and major amalgamation in 2001 which significantly increased its land area. The city name "Ottawa" was chosen in reference to the Ottawa River nearby, which is a word derived from the Algonquin word Odawa, meaning "to trade".
A festival is an event ordinarily celebrated by a community and centering on some characteristic aspect of that community and its religion or traditions, often marked as a local or national holiday, mela or eid. Next to religion and folklore, a significant origin is agricultural. Food is such a vital resource that many festivals are associated with harvest time. Religious commemoration and thanksgiving for good harvests are blended in events that take place in autumn, such as Halloween in the northern hemisphere and Easter in the southern.
Festivals often serve to fulfill specific communal purposes, especially in regard to commemoration or thanksgiving. The celebrations offer a sense of belonging for religious, social, or geographical groups, contributing to group cohesiveness. They may also provide entertainment, which was particularly important to local communities before the advent of mass-produced entertainment. Festivals that focus on cultural or ethnic topics also seek to inform community members of their traditions; the involvement of elders sharing stories and experience provides a means for unity among families.
Animation is the process of making the illusion of motion and change by means of the rapid display of a sequence of static images that minimally differ from each other. The illusion—as in motion pictures in general—is thought to rely on the phi phenomenon. Animators are artists who specialize in the creation of animation.
Animation can be recorded with either analogue media, a flip book, motion picture film, video tape, digital media, including formats with animated GIF, Flash animation and digital video. To display animation, a digital camera, computer, or projector are used along with new technologies that are produced.
Animation creation methods include the traditional animation creation method and those involving stop motion animation of two and three-dimensional objects, paper cutouts, puppets and clay figures. Images are displayed in a rapid succession, usually 24, 25, 30, or 60 frames per second.
Early examples of attempts to capture the phenomenon of motion into a still drawing can be found in paleolithic cave paintings, where animals are often depicted with multiple legs in superimposed positions, clearly attempting to convey the perception of motion.

Since I spend a lot of time around YOW, I though it would be a good idea to refresh my memory on the airport's interior! For anybody travelling out of Ottawa, I hope this might help your experience. The airport is very small when compared to others, but it serves a purpose and gets the job done. I'm not a fan of the observation area...it could be improved in my opinion. All things considered, the processes of arriving and departing here are pretty straight-forward and simple. I hope you enjoy!
Welcome to the Ottawa International Airport! After coming here several times, I decided to make a video of the terminal as there is not really any videos of Ottawa's terminal. I am sorry I could not do a trip report; I would have really liked to fly... The next time I fly, I will do a trip report. This is a tour of the terminal at the Ottawa International airport, excluding beyond security. Feel free to donate any amount to help improve video technology for my videos. https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donations&business;=HRPDYKE6EKY5J&lc;=CA&item;_name=j2k8742%27s%20channel¤cy;_code=CAD&bn;=PP%2dDonationsBF%3abtn_donateCC_LG%2egif%3aNonHosted Any comments and questions are welcome! Chris Robinson's talk was part of the "Wild & Strange"-Track at FMX 2016. From the program: For 25 years, Chris Robinson has carved out his own artistic path as an animation writer, author and columnist (not a historian or critic as some deem) and as Artistic Director of the Ottawa International Animation Festival. Robinson will look back at his bumpy but pretty damn enjoyable journey through the animation wilderness while discussing his curatorial philosophies (influenced by stand up comedy, philosophy, music), why sequencing screenings is like DJing, and why absurdism should be the new religion. Or something like that.

This week is ALL about the Ottawa International Animation Festival 2014. Justin has returned from the festival and made a list of all of his favorite shorts from the festival (see show notes). Ian watches the shorts from the list and they discuss why they enjoyed certain shorts and shorts they found interesting as well as many other related topics in-between. We also talk a little bit about animation festivals in general and how you should definitely check them out if you ever get a chance. **I apologize for some of the strange audio in places, unfortunately there was a mistake with Ians audio track which resulted in some talk back. I edited it out as best as I could so I hope it works out okay. Show Links: My Favorite Shorts from OIAF 2014 http://goranimation.tumblr.com/post/9835888...
