Balearic beat, also known as Balearic house, initially was an eclectic blend of DJ-led dance music that emerged in the mid-1980s. It later became the name of a more specific style of electronic dance music that was popular into the mid-1990s. Balearic beat was named for its popularity among European nightclub and beach rave patrons on the Balearic island of Ibiza, a popular tourist destination. Some dance music compilations referred to it as "the sound of Ibiza," even though many other, more aggressive and upbeat forms of dance music could be heard on the island.
José Gil (born 15 June 1939 Muecate, Portuguese Mozambique) is a Portuguese philosopher.
In his youth he lived in Lisbon, Portugal, but his experiences under António Salazar’s 1933-1974 dictatorship, made him decide to study in a free country. He moved to Paris, France where in 1982 he got his PhD from the University of Paris (Université de Vincennes à Saint-Denis) where he researched on the body as a power field under the supervision of François Châtelet. There he assisted at Gilles Deleuze’s classes whose influence on his thinking was decisive.
Between 1986 and 1989 he conducted an original research project on the aesthetics of Fernando Pessoa, at the Collège International de Philosophie, where he directed a program.
He wrote several books prior to 1983 but when “Portugal, Today: Fear of Existing” (Portugal, Hoje: O Medo de Existir, Lisboa: Relógio d'Água) was published in November 2004, there was a massive response. The book describes, in a way considered by some to be very accurate, what is to be Portuguese and how Portuguese people perceive themselves, other people and the world, thus helping to establish what it is to be "Portuguese" and related identities. The fact that the book was a success enabled the Portuguese to share a public awareness of the problem which may be relevant to helping to solve it.

Chill Out is the third studio album by The KLF, and the first album under the name, released in February 1990. An ambient house concept album, it portrays a mythical night-time journey up the US Gulf Coast from Texas into Louisiana. The album is a continuous composition, in which sampled music (including Elvis Presley, Fleetwood Mac, Acker Bilk and Tuvan throat singers), vocal samples and sound effects are overlaid with original music.
Chill Out is a single continuous musical piece having many distinctive sections, each of which either segues into or introduces the next. The album as a whole is a progression, with percussion gradually introduced during the second half. The KLF have stated in interviews that the album was recorded in a 44-minute "live" take in their studio, Trancentral, located in the basement of The KLF member Jimmy Cauty's squat in Stockwell, South London. This was a DAT to DAT "live" edit — essentially Chill Out is a "best of" of many hours of collaborative ambient DJ jam sessions that also involved Alex Paterson of The Orb. These took place at both Trancentral and the monthly 'Land of Oz' at London's Heaven nightclub. Said Cauty, "There's no edits on it. Quite a few times we'd get near the end and make a mistake and so we'd have to go all the way back to the beginning and set it all up again". According to Cauty's co-founder of The KLF, Bill Drummond, the album took two days to put together.Record Collector compared The KLF's production method to that of established electronic musicians: "While electronic dinosaurs like Jean Michel Jarre and Klaus Schulze were walling themselves in with banks and banks of synthesizers, computers and electronic gadgetry the KLF were doing the opposite—making a crafted work like Chill Out with the bare necessities of musical survival."

The Mix was broadcasted on Jan. 6th 2012 on Radio FM4 - here are the first 14 minutes... It was a La-Boum-de-luxe-Special, because of the start of "Ibiza occident" from austrian filmmaker Günter Schwaiger. Thought this Ibiza-Sunset would fit very well to this nice set from Master Alfredo - the footage was recorded in October 2011 from the terrace of the Café del Mar. Hope you enjoy and it helps you shorten the time to the next balearic summer :-) http://fm4.orf.at/radio/stories/1692794/ http://www.alfredoibiza.com/

A sonic souvenir, from the Ibiza islands and Balearic Beat sound. Created in part to represent a dream place in warm, milky blue water.
The first episode in a series entitled Ibizabyme, that focuses on the personalities of the island and what Ibiza means to them. The sound of the Balearic beat, which was born on the island in the early eighties, was crafted by a few select musical pioneers. While names like Jose Padilla and Alfredo spring to mind due to their association with Amnesia and Cafe Del Mar, one that is not so well know outside Ibiza is, Giuseppe Nuzzo, aka DJ Pippi. Ask any Ibicenco however and they will straight away recognise the name and the diminutive Italians importance to the island's musical history. Born in Ruffano in 1956, DJ Pippi was headhunted by Ricardo Urgell to play at Pacha after he travelled to Germany in search of DJ´s for the iconic cherried club in 1984. Ricardo had heard Pippi play at G...
