Mose John Allison, Jr. (born November 11, 1927) is an American jazz blues pianist, singer and songwriter.
Allison was born outside Tippo, Mississippi, on his grandfather's farm, which was known as The Island "because Tippo Bayou encircles it." He took piano lessons from age five, picked cotton, played piano in grammar school and trumpet in high school, and wrote his first song at age thirteen.
Allison went to college at the University of Mississippi for a while, then enlisted in the U.S. Army for two years. Shortly after mustering out, he enrolled at Louisiana State University, from which he graduated in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts in English studies with a minor in philosophy.
In 1956 Allison moved to New York City and launched his jazz career performing with artists such as Stan Getz, Gerry Mulligan, Al Cohn, Zoot Sims, and Phil Woods. His debut album, Back Country Suite, was issued on the Prestige label in 1957. He formed his own trio in 1958 with Addison Farmer on bass and Nick Stabulas on drums.
Allison may refer to:
Mississippi State Penitentiary (MSP), also known as Parchman Farm, is the oldest prison and the only maximum security prison for men in the state of Mississippi, USA.
Begun with four stockades in 1901, the Mississippi Department of Corrections facility was constructed largely by state prisoners; it is located on about 28 square miles (73 km2) in unincorporated Sunflower County, in the Mississippi Delta region.
It has beds for 4,840 inmates. Inmates work on the prison farm and in manufacturing workshops. It holds male offenders classified at all custody levels—A and B custody (minimum and medium security) and C and D custody (maximum security). It also houses the male death row-all male offenders sentenced to death in Mississippi are held in MSP's Unit 29-as well as the state execution chamber.
The superintendent of Mississippi State Penitentiary is Earnest Lee. There are 2 wardens, 3 deputy wardens, and 2 associate wardens.
Female prisoners are not usually assigned to MSP; Central Mississippi Correctional Facility, also the location of the female death row, is the only state prison in Mississippi designated as a place for female prisoners.
"Not Now" is a song by American rock band Blink-182, released on November 28, 2005, as the lead single from the group's first compilation album, Greatest Hits (2005). The song was composed and recorded during the sessions that produced Blink-182 (2003).
The song reached No. 18 on Billboard's Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart and No. 30 on the UK Singles Chart. This song also gave its name to a rock band in Glennallen, AK.
The song concerns death and miscommunication. The song's guitar riffs were compared to the Descendents, and are interspersed by verses containing a church organ.
"Not Now" was first released for download on the iTunes Music Store on the day of the album's release. It was included as a bonus track on the UK edition of Blink-182, although it is unclear why it was originally left off the track listing of the international edition. The song was also included on Atticus: ...Dragging the Lake, Vol. 3 (2005), a compilation album released by DeLonge's clothing company, Atticus Clothing. Both of these physical releases are a slightly shorter edit, where the bridge is shortened, making it roughly 15 seconds shorter.
Now That's What I Call Music! (1983–present) (often shortened to Now!) is a series of various artists compilation albums released in the United Kingdom and Ireland by EMI (as EMI TV/Virgin Records/Universal/Sony Music). Spinoff series were later introduced in South Africa (1984) and many other countries worldwide, including the United States in 1998, and expanding into Asia in 1995. Since its launch in the UK in 1983, the series has sold over 100 million albums worldwide.
The idea for the series was conceived in the office of Virgin Records in Vernon Yard, near Portobello Road, by the head of Licensing and Business Affairs at Virgin records (1979–1990) – Stephen Navin, and General Manager (1983–1988) – Jon Webster. The concept was taken to Simon Draper (Managing Director at Virgin Records) and then Peter Jamieson (Managing Director of EMI Records (1983–1986)). Jamieson had similar plans to launch such a compilation and he immediately agreed to the partnership. The deal was negotiated and finalised on Richard Branson's boat moored in Little Venice.

[Jump to 17:17 for start of show] [Jump to 1:30:57 for the second set] Steve Rashid / Don Stiernberg / Larry Kohut play MOSE ALLISON! Every musician can point back to the handful of early influences that helped shape them. In my early teens, around the time that I became seriously interested in making music, my older brother came home with a Mose Allison record. My life changed. Here I heard clever piano playing that made me think, and clever lyrics that made me laugh, sung by a guy with a down-home delivery that made it seem like he was telling me a cool story as much as he was singing a song. Mose had a soulful, simple, bluesy delivery that, for me, embodied coolness. His political commentary had bite and his social awareness was keen. All of it was presented with funny rhymes and quirk...

Leigh interviewed the late and great Mose Allison many times over the decades. By the 1990's they got into an interview routine that included Mose giving a short review of whatever book(s) he was reading. This one is from June 10, 2006 at which time Leigh was nearing the end his career as a broadcaster.

Mose Allison is not just a superior talent as an instrumentalist and singer, but also as a songwriter. His songs have been covered by jazz artists as well as by rock musicians such as the Who, the Clash, Leon Russell, Bonnie Raitt, and Van Morrison. Adept in both the blues and jazz, he defies categorization and has been a major influence on musicians regardless of genre for more than 50 years. Allison was born on November 11, 1927, on his grandfather's farm near the village of Tippo in the Mississippi Delta. He started playing piano at the age of five, learned trumpet in school, and at a young age began composing his own songs. His first musical influences were country blues artists whom he heard on the jukebox at the Tippo service station. Other influences include Louis Armstrong, Fats W...

One of these days I've got to get things right
I'm gonna do my business in the daylight
One of these days you know I've got to get things right
I'm gonna do my business out in the broad daylight
One of these days I've got to get things straight
I'm gonna stio actin' like a reprobate
One of these days you know I've got to get things straight
I'm gonna stop staying out late
And actin' like a reprobate
One of these days I've got to get in step
It won't be long 'fore I'll be needin help
One of these days you know I've got to get in step
The way I'm going I'll soon be needin' help
One of these days I've got to go back home
Sit out on my front porch and compose a poem
One of these days you know I've got to go back home
