The following events occurred in February 1942:
1942 (MCMXLII) was a common year starting on Thursday (dominical letter D) of the Gregorian calendar, the 1942nd year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 942nd year of the 2nd millennium, the 42nd year of the 20th century, and the 3rd year of the 1940s decade.
Below, events of World War II have the "WWII" prefix.
Los Angeles (i/lɒs ˈændʒəlᵻs/ loss AN-jə-ləs or loss AN-jə-liss) (Spanish for "The Angels"), officially the City of Los Angeles and often known by its initials L.A., is the second-largest city in the United States after New York City, the most populous city in the state of California, and the county seat of Los Angeles County.
Situated in Southern California, Los Angeles is known for its mediterranean climate, ethnic diversity, sprawling metropolis, and as a major center of the American entertainment industry. Los Angeles lies in a large coastal basin surrounded on three sides by mountains reaching up to and over 10,000 feet (3,000 m).
Historically home to the Chumash and Tongva, Los Angeles was claimed by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo for Spain in 1542 along with the rest of what would become Alta California. The city was officially founded on September 4, 1781, by Spanish governor Felipe de Neve. It became a part of Mexico in 1821 following the Mexican War of Independence. In 1848, at the end of the Mexican–American War, Los Angeles and the rest of California were purchased as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, thereby becoming part of the United States. Los Angeles was incorporated as a municipality on April 4, 1850, five months before California achieved statehood. The city experienced rapid growth with the discovery of oil.
An army group is a military organization consisting of several field armies, which is self-sufficient for indefinite periods. It is usually responsible for a particular geographic area. An army group is the largest field organization handled by a single commander—usually a full general or field marshal—and it generally includes between 400,000 and 1,000,000 soldiers.
In the Polish Armed Forces and former Soviet Red Army an army group was known as a Front. The equivalent of an army group in the Imperial Japanese Army was a "general army" (Sō-gun (総軍)).
Army groups may be multi-national formations. For example, during World War II, the Southern Group of Armies (also known as the U.S. 6th Army Group) comprised the U.S. Seventh Army and the French First Army; the 21st Army Group comprised the British Second Army, the Canadian First Army and the US Ninth Army.
In U.S. Army usage, the number of an army group is expressed in Arabic numerals (e.g., "12th Army Group"), while the number of a field army is spelled out (e.g., "Third Army").

.The Battle of Los Angeles, also known as The Great Los Angeles Air Raid, is the name given by contemporary sources to the rumored enemy attack and subsequent anti-aircraft artillery barrage which took place from late 24 February to early 25 February 1942 over Los Angeles, California. The incident occurred less than three months after the United States entered World War II as a result of the Japanese Imperial Navy's attack on Pearl Harbor, and one day after the Bombardment of Ellwood on 23 February. Initially, the target of the aerial barrage was thought to be an attacking force from Japan, but speaking at a press conference shortly afterward, Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox called the incident a "false alarm." Newspapers of the time published a number of reports and speculations of a cov...

The Bombing of Darwin in 1942 (19 Feb). YouTube video commemorating the air raids over Darwin in the NT. The following information comes from Wikipedia - The bombing of Darwin on 19 February 1942 was both the first and the largest single attack mounted by a foreign power against Australia. On this day, 242 Japanese aircraft attacked ships in Darwin's harbour and the town's two airfields in an attempt to prevent the Allies from using them as bases to contest the invasions of Timor and Java. The town was only lightly defended, and the Japanese inflicted heavy losses upon the Allied forces at little cost to themselves. The urban areas of Darwin also suffered some damage from the air raids, and there were a number of civilian casualties. A greater number of bombs were dropped on Darwin ...
The Battle of Bukit Chandu, Singapore - 14 Feb 1942 This short movie depicts the fiercest battle today in 1942, between the Japanese occupying troops and soldiers of the 1st Malay Brigade at Pasir Panjang. The Malay Brigade was commanded by the brave Lieutenant Adnan bin Saidi who fought along his men to defend Singapore’s last stand to their grisly deaths on the 14th Feb 1942. And to all my heroic friends than put up this video...thank you. Their time in contributing ideas and advice in producing this video is deemed heroic….heroic in remembering the sacrifices of Lieutenant Adnan, and all those brave men that have defended Singapore with their lives.
UFA TONWOCHE: DIE DEUTSCHE WOCHENSCHAU: OPERATION BARBAROSSA: BATTLE OF KHARKOV II [1942] By late February 1942 the Soviet winter offensive had pushed German forces back from Moscow on a broad front, to a stalemate in the Rzhev and Izium salients (shown as Isjum). Based on the German failure at Moscow, Soviet command lobbied for a new spring offensive to expand upon winter gains. The Izium bridgehead offensive, also known as the Barvenkovo Bulge, was to be committed in early May against a perceived weak-point in the German line near Kharkov. The Second Battle of Kharkov was a major Axis counter-offensive against this attack (conducted 12–28 May 1942). The Soviet's dedicated sections of the 21st, 28th, 38th and 9th Army to the attack (765,000 men). They expected only two German divisions ...

The fire was caused by accident as sparks from welding caught fire and then ignited inflammable materials. On Feb 14, 1942, Bukit Brown Municipal Cemetery, Seh Ong Cemetery, Sime Road and Adam Road were all aspects of one of a WWII battlefield in one of the last battles between the Imperial Japanese Army and British Empire forces before the fall of Singapore. On June 17, 2012, Jon Cooper, a battlefield archaeologist, led two dozen participants on a tour of the key sites in an event organised by All Things Bukit Brown, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Fall of Singapore on Feb 15, 1942 and raise awareness of the historic value of a place once known as "Cemetery Hill" in war maps. Jon will lead another tour in July, either on the 22nd or 29th. To book a place, watch the blog and Facebook group for further details. http://bukitbrown.com/main/?cat=91 http://www.facebook.com/groups/bukit...

The battle of the City of Los Angeles 25-02-1942. This incident was one of the first fights between humans and aliens. You may decide what happened that night in 1942. officially it was a weather balloon. Again. IN REMEMBER FOR THOSE 7-8 CITIZENS WHO PASSED AWAY THAT NIGHT ON 25-02-1942, DUE FALLING SHRAPNEL AND HEART ATTACKS. MAY THE SUN ALWAYS SHINE FOR THEM.
The Battle of Stalingrad (23 August 1942 -- 2 February 1943)was a major battle of World War II in which Nazi Germany and its allies fought the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad (now Volgograd) in the south-western Soviet Union. Marked by constant close quarters combat and disregard for military and civilian casualties, it is amongst the bloodiest battles in the history of warfare. The heavy losses inflicted on the Wehrmacht make it arguably the most strategically decisive battle of the whole war. It was a turning point in the European theatre of World War II--the German forces never regained the initiative in the East and withdrew a vast military force from the West to reinforce their losses. The German offensive to capture Stalingrad began in late summer 1942 using the 6...

I threw your keys in the water, I looked back,
Theyd frozen halfway down in the ice.
They froze up so quickly, the keys and their owners,
Even after the anger, it all turned silent, and
The everyday turned solitary,
So we came to February.
First we forgot where wed planted those bulbs last year,
Then we forgot that wed planted at all,
Then we forgot what plants are altogether,
and I blamed you for my freezing and forgetting and
The nights were long and cold and scary,
Can we live through February?
You know I think Christmas was a long red glare,
Shot up like a warning, we gave presents without cards,
And then the snow,
And then the snow came, we were always out shoveling,
And wed drop to sleep exhausted,
Then wed wake up, and its snowing.
And February was so long that it lasted into March
And found us walking a path alone together.
You stopped and pointed and you said, "Thats a crocus,"
And I said, "Whats a crocus?" and you said, "Its a flower,"
I tried to remember, but I said, "Whats a flower?"
You said, "I still love you."
The leaves were turning as we drove to the hardware store,
My new lover made me keys to the house,
And when we got home, well we just started chopping wood,
Because you never know how next year will be,
And well gather all our arms can carry,
