Sikkim (/ˈsɪkᵻm/) is a landlocked Indian state located in the Himalayan mountains. The state is bordered by Nepal to the west, China's Tibet Autonomous Region to the north and east, and Bhutan to the east. The Indian state of West Bengal lies to the south.
With 607,688 inhabitants as of the 2011 census, Sikkim is the least populous state in India and the second-smallest state after Goa in total area, covering approximately 7,096 km2 (2,740 sq mi). Sikkim is nonetheless geographically diverse due to its location in the Himalayas; the climate ranges from subtropical to high alpine, and Kangchenjunga, the world's third-highest peak, is located on Sikkim's border with Nepal. Sikkim is a popular tourist destination, owing to its culture, scenery and biodiversity. It also has the only open land border between India and China. Sikkim's capital and largest city is Gangtok. Almost 25% of the state is covered by the Khangchendzonga National Park.
According to legend, the Buddhist guru Padmasambhava visited Sikkim in the 8th century CE, introduced Buddhism and foretold the era of the Sikkimese monarchy. Sikkim's Namgyal dynasty was established in 1642. Over the next 150 years, the kingdom witnessed frequent raids and territorial losses to Nepalese invaders. In the 19th century, it allied itself with British India, eventually becoming a British protectorate. In 1975, a referendum abolished the Sikkimese monarchy, and the territory instead became part of India.
India, officially the Republic of India (Bhārat Gaṇarājya), is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world. Bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the south-west, and the Bay of Bengal on the south-east, it shares land borders with Pakistan to the west;China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east; and Myanmar (Burma) and Bangladesh to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives; in addition, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia.
Home to the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation and a region of historic trade routes and vast empires, the Indian subcontinent was identified with its commercial and cultural wealth for much of its long history. Four religions—Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism—originated here, whereas Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam arrived in the 1st millennium CE and also shaped the region's diverse culture. Gradually annexed by and brought under the administration of the British East India Company from the early 18th century and administered directly by the United Kingdom after the Indian Rebellion of 1857, India became an independent nation in 1947 after a struggle for independence that was marked by non-violent resistance led by Mahatma Gandhi.
Gangtok ( /ˈɡæŋtɒk/ ) is a municipality, the capital and the largest town of the Indian state of Sikkim. It also is the headquarters of the East Sikkim district. Gangtok is located in the eastern Himalayan range, at an elevation of 1,650 m (5,410 ft). The town's population of 100,000 belongs to different ethnicities such as Nepali, Lepchas and Bhutia. Nestled within higher peaks of the Himalaya and enjoying a year-round mild temperate climate, Gangtok is at the centre of Sikkim's tourism industry.
Gangtok rose to prominence as a popular Buddhist pilgrimage site after the construction of the Enchey Monastery in 1840. In 1894, the ruling Sikkimese Chogyal, Thutob Namgyal, transferred the capital to Gangtok. In the early 20th century, Gangtok became a major stopover on the trade route between Lhasa in Tibet and cities such as Kolkata (then Calcutta) in British India. After India won its independence from Britain in 1947, Sikkim chose to remain an independent monarchy, with Gangtok as its capital. In 1975, after the integration with the union of India, Gangtok was made India's 22nd state capital.

First day in Sikkim after travelling from East Nepal and crossing through the Indian Border into West Bengal and then finally into Sikkim. Riding through Gangtok which was truly a spectacular city. NOTE: Don't get all upset about being tricked into coming to this video, If your incentive to come to this video was to see girls in short skirts, observe your own mind and your dirty thoughts and take responsibility for coming to this video yourself. You really need to get outside and improve your life. But I hope you enjoyed the motovlog and thanks for the views :D THIS WAS A SOCIAL EXPERIMENT.
Vlog 7 in the #tourof2017 series. Unpredictable weather in North Sikkim (in April 2017) and almost no fuel in the tank meant that the bike and I needed to head back south within Sikkim. With the sudden change of plans, I had no idea what to do or where to go next. A chance encounter with a fellow traveller (a 62-year-old bicyclist) at Rhingim (North Sikkim) and random conversation led to the plotting of an interesting route from North to West Sikkim. My Route - Lachen - Chungthang - Mangan - Ringhim -Mangan - Dikchu - Singtham - Temi Tea Gardens - Dangtham - Ravangla - Tashiding - Yuksom - Pelling. It's truly a gorgeous area of the country and there is some amazing scenery. Sikkim has a majority Nepali population, so when you're there you'll feel more like you are in Nepal than in India. The easiest way to get to Gangtok is by taking the Indian train to NJP (which stands for New Jalpaiguri) and then catching a jeep from NJP or Siliguri straight to Gangtok. Vacation travel video about destination Sikkim in India. For centuries Sikkim has been a segregated and independent Buddhist kingdom on the edge of the Himalayas, a land-locked Indian state and India’s most northerly region. Historical, cultural and spiritual, Sikkim is strongly associated with Tibet and possesses more than two hundred monasteries. The most holy monastery of the Nyingmapa schools is in Tashiding and is located on a mountain in the east of the country, along the route from Darjeeling. It was built in 1717 following the sight of a rainbow that connected the site with the majestic Anchenjunga Mountain. The large complex consists of a modest main temple, several buildings, chapels and Chorten with relics of both Chogyals and Lamas. A romantic forest trail leads to the Dubdi M...

Travel video about destination Sikkim and Bhutan. Surrounded by the world’s highest mountains is a fascinating world whose exotic charm enchants all who experience it, from the plains of West Bengal up into the Himalayas. Siliguri is a vibrant city located within India’s Terai Plain, a peaceful provincial town with calm streets and shops that once supplied the region’s tea pickers with their daily needs, has been transformed into an important crossroads for travellers to the Himalayas. Siliguri Train Station is the starting point of one of the most famous train journeys in the world, the Darjeeling Himalaya Toy Train which climbs to an altitude of more than two thousand metres, negotiates eight hundred and seventy three bends and crosses more than five hundred bridges. Sikkim is strongly a...

Father thanks for playin' with my friends and me
I'm glad they got to meet the man I know
You always knew the words and taught me honesty
Picked me up when I was feeling low
If I could talk to you one more time
I know you'd work things out just like before
Where did I go wrong can you hear me sing this song?
Father I won't see you anymore
Mother dry your eyes why do you cry those tears?
You knew someday your baby'd be a man
Letting go is hard when it's for ever dear
I know it's late, but now I understand
If I could hold your hand one more time
And hear your lullabies just like before
I know that I did wrong, so I'm singing you this song
Mother, I won't see you anymore
Son, I wish you knew how much we're missin' you
I saw them cry their tears from up above
I try to tell them, but the words aren't getting through
I didn't mean to hurt the ones I love
Mother, Father, I hope to see you soon
And things will be just like they were before
I'm sending all my love, I'm watching from above
