On this date in 1982, Comsat Angels released their fourth single, "It's History". It was backed by "Zinger". The B side appeared on their third album, Fiction. The A side was a non-LP track that was added to the album as a bonus when it was re-released on CD. The Sheffield, England post-punk/new wave band changed their name to the C.S. Angels later on due to some pressure from Comsat, the satellite company. They disbanded in 1995.

In April of 1982, The Exploited released their fifth single, "Attack". It was backed by "Alternative". The B side appeared on their second studio album, Troops Of Tomorrow. Nick Lowe - My Heart Hurts

On this date in 1982, Nick Lowe released his fourteenth single, "My Heart Hurts". It was backed by a live track called "Pet You and Hold You". Culture Club - White Boy

D.A.F. - Alles Ist Gut

On this date in 1981, Deutsch-Amerikanische Freundschaft, also known as D.A.F., released their third album, Alles Ist Gut. It contained the singles, "Der Mussolini" and "Als War's Das Letze Mal". The Dusseldorf, Germany experimental new wave band disbanded in 1982 but re-formed a few years later and is still together.

Altered Images - A Day's Wait

On this date in 1981, Altered Images released their second single, "A Day's Wait". It was backed by "Who Cares?" The A side appeared on their debut album, Happy Birthday. The B side did not but was added as a bonus track when the album was re-released on CD. The Glasgow, Scotland new wave band, led by Clare Grogan, released three albums before disbanding in 1983. Bassist Johnny McElhone formed Hipsway after they disbanded.

The Plastics - Welcome Back

On this date in 1981, The Plastics released their third album, Welcome Back which was primarily a greatest hits album made up of songs from their first two releases in Japan. This was their first release in the U.K. and U.S. (though it was simply called The Plastics in the U.S.) All songs were re-recorded for the album. The Japanese new wave band disbanded in the early 80's.

The Teardrop Explodes - Treason

On this date in 1981, The Teardrop Explodes re-released their third single, "Treason (It's Just A Story)". This time it was backed by "Use Me". The A side was a remixed version of the earlier single and it fared better, reaching the #18 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The A side had appeared on their debut album, Kilimanjaro. The B side was a non-LP track that was added as a bonus to their debut when re-released on CD. The 12 inch included a french version of the title track called "Traison (C'est Juste Une Histoire)" which also a bonus track on the Kilimajaro CD. The Liverpool, England post punk band disbanded in 1982 after two albums. Lead singer Julian Cope went on to become a successful solo artist. Keyboardist Paul Simpson formed The Wild Swans.

Chelsea - Look At The Outside

On this date in 1980, Chelsea released their sixth single, "Look At The Outside". It was backed by "Don't Get Me Wrong". Both tracks appeared on their second album, Alternative Hits. The London punk band originally consisted of Gene October, William Broad (Billy Idol), Tony James and John Towe. Within a few weeks, everyone except Gene October bolted to form Generation X. Pere Ubu - Datapanik In The Year Zero

On this date in 1978, Pere Ubu released their first EP, Datapanik In The Year Zero. It contained five tracks, "Heart Of Darkness", "30 Seconds Over Tokyo", "Cloud 149", "Heaven" and "Untitled".
These were all early tracks and had not appeared on an album. The Cleveland avant-garde/proto punk band formed when Rocket From The Tombs disbanded. Dave Thomas and Peter Laughner formed Pere Ubu while fellow Rocket From The Tombs band members, Cheetah Chrome and Johnny Blitz, founded The Dead Boys. Pere Ubu continues to release music.

Patti Smith - Wave

On this date in 1979, Patti Smith released her fourth album, Wave. It contained the singles "Frederick" (#63 U.K., #90 U.S.), "Dancing Barefoot" and "So You Want To Be (A Rock 'N' Roll Star)". The album, itself, reached the #18 spot on the U.S. albums chart and the #41 spot on the U.K. albums chart. The New Jersey singer/poet was one of the founders of the New York punk scene and was a regular at CBGB's. She was the last performer on stage on October 15, 2006, the last night that CBGB's was open.

The Pack - Heathen

On this date in 1979, The Pack released their debut single, "Heathen". It was backed by "Brave New Soldiers". It was the first of two singles by the London punk band who broke up in 1980. Frontman Kirk Brandon went on to front Theatre Of Hate. Drummer Rab Fae Beith went on to The Wall after the first single. He was replaced by ex-PIL drummer Jim Walker for their second release. Although the band did not release anything other than the two singles while intact, a series of posthumous releases found their way into circulation. A 1980 release called Kirk Brandon & The Pack Of Lies contained all four single sides.

Stiff Little Fingers - Gotta Getaway

On this date in 1979, Stiff Little Fingers released their third single, "Gotta Gettaway". It was backed by "Bloody Sunday". The A side appeared on their second album, Nobody's Heroes. The B side was a non-LP track that was added as a bonus track on some versions of the re-released CD. The Belfast, Ireland punk band broke up in 1982 after four studio albums, one live album and numerous singles. They re-formed in 1987 and continue on today with original frontman Jake Burns and original bass player Ali McMordie still there.

Blondie - Sunday Girl

On this date in 1980, Blondie released their tenth single, "Sunday Girl". It was backed by "I Know But I Don't Know". Both songs appeared on their third album, Parallel Lines. The 12 inch single also offered a French version of "Sunday Girl" which was a non-LP track. The single was their second to reach the #1 spot on the U.K. singles chart. It did not, however, chart in the U.S. The New York City punk/new wave band broke up in 1982 but they re-formed in 1998.

Throbbing Gristle - United

On this date in 1978, Throbbing Gristle released their debut single, "United". It was backed by "Zyklon B Zombie". Both appeared on their debut studio album, Second Annual Report. The London industrial/experimental post punk band released a tremendous number of live albums over the course of their career and a few studio albums as well. They lasted until 1981. They re-formed in 2004 and have been somewhat active.

The Stranglers - Nice 'N' Sleazy

On this date in 1978, The Stranglers released their sixth single, "Nice 'N' Sleazy". It was backed by "Shut Up". The A side appeared on their third album, Black And White. The B side was a non-LP track that was added as a bonus track on the album when it was re-released on CD. The single reached the #18 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The Surrey, U.K. punk/post punk band is still performing and recording, though without original lead singer, Hugh Cornwell, who left in 1990.

X - Adult Books

On this date in 1978, X released their debut single, "Adult Books". It was backed by "We're Desperate". Both tracks appeared on their second album, Wild Gift, but they were re-recorded versions. The original single version of the A side was added to their debut, Los Angeles, and the original single version of the B side was added as a bonus track on the second album when they were re-released on CD. The Los Angeles punk band disbanded in 1993 but has performed occasionally since with its original lineup.
