So, you crashed at someone else’s place and you are short on basic hygiene items like soap, razors, and a toothbrush. We’ve all been there. But before you go sharing, inform yourself of this video. And your best friend’s earrings might go perfect with your new outfit. But hold it right there. Sharing earrings provides a possible way to transmit blood borne infections. Seeing as earrings literally go inside of someone’s body on a daily basis, it’s clear that sharing them is a pretty poor choice. We don’t want to complete bum you out. Make earrings safe for sharing by swabbing them thoroughly with alcohol before and after you borrow them . And no, we don’t mean the vodka you guys are drinking. We mean standard rubbing alcohol! 6.Water Bottles Sharing a water bottle may keep you hydrated, by it may also keep you infected! Sharing one can lead to scary saliva transmitted nasties like strep throat, cold, herps, mono,mumps or meningitis! No matter where you go, make sure you have a couple of spare water bottles on you. After all, you should be drinking it anyways! 5.Flip Flops Since they are exposed to dirty feet and dirty streets, flip flops are far dirtier than you’d imagine them to be. Sharing flip flops can also lead to sharing fungal infections, athlete's foot, warts, and a creepy sounding virus called molluscum. Don’t forget that flip flops often get wet and are exposed to warm, sunny weather. And we’ve already told you about the dangers that moist and warm environments bring! 4.Toothpaste Of course it’s not as risky as sharing your actual toothbrush, but you still shouldn't share toothpaste with someone. Even if you are married and go by the “what’s mine is your’s ,darling” mantra, it still doesn’t bear much weight. It the tube you are sharing has been dipped into the bristles of another brush, bacteria can and will be transmitted. This can be avoided by wiping off the tube after use. However, play it completely safe by getting your own. That way, when one person inevitably runs out, they’ll have a backup. So long as the top and the cap are cleaned , of course. 3. Ear Buds Have you ever had a friend be bopping along to some cool tunes on their iPhone when all of they sudden they say “here! Listen to this” right before abruptly inserting their earbuds into your ear canal? Well, be warned of that. It may seem harmless, but there's a surprising number of risks involved when sharing headphones, especially earbuds. Which one would you like to know about most? Ear mites, baby cockroaches,ear fungus, the flu, or maggots? All of which can come from not keeping your earbuds clean and sanitary for your next use. For example, if your friend has a dog that’s infested with mites, these mites can make his way onto his clothes, and into his ears. If you want to share the newest Katy Perry song on spotify with him, his mites can become YOUR ear mites. Pretty gross right? According to one study by Manipal University in India, a shocking “ninety three percent of tests swabs performed on people who shared earbuds came back with harmful bacteria”. Clean you buds no matter who you’re sharing them with. And if you really want your friend to hear what you’re hearing, remove the buds altogether and use the speaker. Duh! 2.Hair Trimmers There’s a reason you see a barber’s materials sitting in blue liquid. Sharing hair and nose trimmers is the easiest way to transport infections like Staph infection from one nose to another. As for your hair trimmer, the risk appears to be less. But if you let someone take your hair trimmer to a private location, all bets are off. There’s no telling where that will be used. Ick. Are you a germaphobe yet? But sharing makeup is just obviously not the way to go. For example, mascara is a prime agent for easy- to-transmit infections like pink eye and cold sores. Face creams and moisturizers may seem safer, but they are not. Take Vaseline, for example. Vaseline can be rubbed on chapped lips, eyelids, and who knows where ever else on someone’s body. Every Time they dip their fingers back in the jar, it becomes contaminated with all types of nasty goop. If you really need to borrow some, go ahead. But just know what you’re getting yourself into.
