Gabon (/ɡəˈbɒn/; French pronunciation: [ɡabɔ̃]), officially the Gabonese Republic (French: République gabonaise), is a sovereign state on the west coast of Central Africa. Located on the equator, Gabon is bordered by Equatorial Guinea to the northwest, Cameroon to the north, the Republic of the Congo on the east and south, and the Gulf of Guinea to the west. It has an area of nearly 270,000 square kilometres (100,000 sq mi) and its population is estimated at 1.5 million people. Its capital and largest city is Libreville.
Since its independence from France in 1960, Gabon has had three presidents. In the early 1990s, Gabon introduced a multi-party system and a new democratic constitution that allowed for a more transparent electoral process and reformed many governmental institutions. Gabon was also a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2010–2011 term.
Low population density, abundant petroleum, and foreign private investment have helped make Gabon one of the most prosperous countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, with the 4th highest HDI and the third highest GDP per capita (PPP) (after Equatorial Guinea and Botswana) in the region. GDP grew by more than 6% per year from 2010 to 2012. However, because of inequality in income distribution, a significant proportion of the population remains poor.

Cup of Nations may refer to:
The Africa Cup of Nations, officially CAN (French: Coupe d'Afrique des Nations), also referred to as African Cup of Nations, or AFCON, is the main international association football competition in Africa. It is sanctioned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and was first held in 1957. Since 1968, it has been held every two years. The title holders at the time of a FIFA Confederations Cup qualify for that competition.
In 1957 there were only three participating nations: Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia. South Africa was originally scheduled to compete, but were disqualified due to the apartheid policies of the government then in power. Since then, the tournament has grown greatly, making it necessary to hold a qualifying tournament. The number of participants in the final tournament reached 16 in 1998 (16 teams were to compete in 1996 but Nigeria withdrew, reducing the field to 15), and since then, the format has been unchanged, with the sixteen teams being drawn into four groups of four teams each, with the top two teams of each group advancing to a "knock-out" stage.

Nations Cup: Gabon grab late winner against Morocco Gabon snatched a late winner to progress to the Africa Cup of Nations last eight as they beat Morocco 3-2. Morocco had led 1-0 for much of the game, through captain Houssine Kharjah's first-half opener. But goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Daniel Cousin put the co-hosts ahead, before Kharjah's penalty looked to have levelled it up. Bruno Zita Mbanangoye then curled in a free-kick deep into injury time to seal a dramatic win and send Morocco out. The frenetic atmosphere in Libreville added to a match that swung back and forth, but ultimately saw the Gabonese come out on top in stunning fashion. The Moroccans had initially threatened to spoil the party mood, and were much improved from their 2-1 defeat by Tunisia, with captain...

Innovative French photographer Xavier Hubert-Brierre travelled to Gabon with his wife and set up a mirror in several locations in order to capture animals walking by. The results are stunning, with one of the more amusing reactions being from two leopards. One of them takes several looks at the mirror before it is attacked by a second leopard, who calls off the ambush when he too spots Xavier's mirror. Gabon Travel - Gabon is a country in Western Central Africa. It lies on the Equator, on the Atlantic Ocean coast, between the Republic of the Congo to the south and east, Equatorial Guinea to the northwest and Cameroon to the north. A small population, as well as oil and mineral reserves have helped Gabon become one of Africas wealthier countries. The country has generally been able to maintain and conserve its pristine rain forest and rich biodiversity. The earliest inhabitants of the area were Pygmy peoples. They were largely replaced and absorbed by Bantu tribes as they migrated. In the 15th century, the first Europeans arrived. The nations present name originates from Gabão, Portuguese for cloak, which is roughly the shape of the estuary of the Komo River close to the capital of Lib...
I didn't think I'd make it into Gabon after my time in Yaounde at their terrible embassy, but after getting a visa with ease at the border (as seen in the last episode) I'm here. The truth is, this country has such brilliant potential. The scenery is unbelievable, there is money here in the oil and timber industry, and there is wildlife as well. However, despite a couple fun days in Gabon with a Dutch couple I met on the road, I quickly grew to despise Gabon. The people here were the least friendly I met in all of Africa, they seemed to resent me being in their country. Moreover, well at the pride and joy of Gabon tourism, Lope National Park, we learned how unprofessional they can still be when it comes to business. Gabon, thus far has been so insanely frustrating but mostly due to t...
