Everyone may claim that their dog is “the smartest dog in the world”, and they all could be right about that. But some of these animal’s intelligence will come to you as a refreshing surprise. Oregon State University reports that “they can distinguish between the neighbor’s dog and a predatory coyote” and that they also communicate by humming. Like any other animal that’s surprised by aggressive on unknown human behaviour, llamas do sometimes react with a spit-like defense. Pigeons have been found to fly into the air in the same order, and even know certain math rules. After a year of training, pigeons were able to pick numbers on a screen from highest to lowest. While you can’t ask a pigeon to help you with your Algebra homework or balance your checkbook, it’s still incredibly impressive. If birds and primates both have the ability to execute math, that means they could be evolutionarily linked together over three hundred million years ago. Also a pigeon’s memory is distinctively different from other birds. According to futurity.org, pigeons have a “‘honing instinct’ that helps them to find their way home from hundreds of miles away, even when blindfolded”. These snappy birds are even used by the United States Coast Guard to spot orange life jackets. Now that’s impressive. 3.Horses You might have used the expression “I’m hungry as a horse”, but you probably haven’t thought to say “I’m feeling as smart as a horse”. Horses have been used as transportation vehicles long before the modern day inventions of cars, planes, and trains. They are easily trained companions that often are forced to dwell in darkened , cold stables, but they deserve much more than that. Like many other animals on this list, horses have been known to have distinct cognitive abilities. Certain horse activists proclaim that horses are profoundly intelligent, but have been dumbed down due to centuries of human oppression. They known how to smell out food, detect nearby water sources, and defend themselves against predators and risks. They can run at high speeds even at the slightest detection of fear or threat. All this can be attributed to their keen hearing skills. Horses can hear at frequencies ten thousand times more powerful that humans can. In 2017, NPR reported on a study at Kobe University testing horse's’ ability to communicate with humans. When under the assumption that the humans did not know carrots were in a bucket, the horses tried their best to insinuate the food’s location to humans through “visual and tactile symbols”. Aside from traditional training, horses can respond to visual and verbal demands just as a dog can. 2.Cats Are you a dog person or a cat person? Cat people are usually in the minority ,but everyone is entitled to their prefered domesticated friend. When food is involved, cats are relentless in getting what they want. You may have a story or know someone who can tell you about a time when a cat’s sinister plans took them by complete surprise. Some cats are shockingly social and in tune with their owner’s emotions. By using simple dog treats or string cheese, a dog trainer can train a dog to do some pretty impressive tricks.
