'Power pole snapped in half': Elderly woman fighting for life after crash

An elderly Perth woman is fighting for her life in hospital after her car veered onto the wrong side of the road and collided with a tree and power pole on Wednesday night.

A police spokesman said the 70-year-old was driving west on South Street in Kardinya when her vehicle hit the pole with such force, it snapped in half.

"The vehicle was damaged significantly, coming to rest on its side, while the power pole snapped in half," she said.

"The Department of Fire and Emergency Service attended and freed the woman before being conveyed by St John Ambulance to Royal Perth Hospital with suspected head injuries."

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the crash or the vehicle prior to the crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
