The Orchard is a music, film, and video distribution, marketing, and sales company and top-ranked Multi-Channel Network that works with independent artists, labels, and other content providers to distribute content to hundreds of digital and mobile outlets around the world, as well as physical retailers in North America and Europe. The company was founded in 1997 by producer Richard Gottehrer and music manager Scott Cohen to foster independence and creativity in the music industry. The Orchard is fully owned by Sony Music Entertainment, but it operates separately from its parent company.

The company was founded in 1997 by Richard Gottehrer and Scott Cohen in New York, NY.

Its clients include independent artists and labels such as Daptone Records, (representing artists such as Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings and Charles Bradley (singer)), Cleopatra Records (with artists including Blackburner, Queensrÿche,Sons of Hippies and William Shatner) and Frenchkiss Records (Bloc Party,Drowners,Les Savy Fav,Local Natives), who partnered with The Orchard in 2012 to create Frenchkiss Label Group in addition to their digital and physical deals with the company. In 2014, the partnership expanded even further with The Orchard's acquisition of both Frenchkiss Records and Frenchkiss Label Group.

Scene (album)

Scene is an album by the Japanese noise musician Merzbow. A limited edition version included Early Computer Works and a poster.

Scene (subculture)

The scene subculture is a contemporary subculture which has been common in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America from the late 2000s until the mid 2010s. People (most often in their teens to 20s) involved in this style are called "scene people," "scene kids," "trendies" or sometimes "scenesters" in the US, "moshers," "chavmos," or "chemos" in the UK, "coloridos" in Latin America, and "shamate" in China.

History and evolution of fashion

Origins (late 1990s to early 2000s)

The scene subculture began in United Kingdom during the late 1990s and early 2000s when some members of the chav subculture began to experiment with alternative fashion, and took fashionable characteristics of indie pop, emo, rave music, and punk fashions. The fashion originally included typical pop punk and skater clothing like tripp pants, stripes, tartan, spiky hair, Chucks, Vans, and trucker hats derived from grunge and skate punk fashion. Older punks and skaters, however, looked down on these young trendies (as they were then called) for their inauthenticity and inability to skate.

Youth subculture

A youth subculture is a youth-based subculture with distinct styles, behaviors, and interests. Youth subcultures offer participants an identity outside of that ascribed by social institutions such as family, work, home and school. Youth subcultures that show a systematic hostility to the dominant culture are sometimes described as countercultures.

Youth music genres are associated with many youth subcultures, such as punks, emos, ravers, Juggalos, metalheads and goths. The study of subcultures often consists of the study of the symbolism attached to clothing, music, other visible affections by members of the subculture, and also the ways in which these same symbols are interpreted by members of the dominant culture.

Socioeconomic class, gender, intelligence, conformity, morality, and ethnicity can be important in relation to youth subcultures. Youth subcultures can be defined as meaning systems, modes of expression or lifestyles developed by groups in subordinate structural positions in response to dominant systems — and which reflect their attempt to solve structural contradictions rising from the wider societal context.

Phenomenon (film)

Phenomenon is a 1996 American romantic fantasy drama film directed by Jon Turteltaub, written by Gerald Di Pego, as well as starring John Travolta, Kyra Sedgwick, Forest Whitaker, Robert Duvall, and Jeffrey DeMunn.

In the film, an amiable, small-town everyman is inexplicably transformed into a genius with telekinetic powers. The original music score was composed by Thomas Newman. It was filmed in Auburn, Colfax, Davis, Sacramento, Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, and Treasure Island, all in Northern California.

Plot summary

George Malley (John Travolta) is a kind but slow witted auto mechanic who lives in a small friendly town in northern California. While celebrating his 37th birthday at a local bar with his best friend Nate Pope (Forest Whitaker) and father figure Doc Brunder (Robert Duvall), he steps outside. After saying goodbye to one of his employees, he notices what appears to be a ball of shining bright white lights moving around in the sky. The ball then grows closer and hits him in the head, making a loud sound and knocking him down. When he comes to and recovers and re-enters the bar, he learns that nobody else saw the lights or heard the loud sound. His friends playfully suggest that he has had too much to drink and only Doc notices something is amiss when George quickly achieves a checkmate in their chess game.
