NCLEX/Test-Taking Tips
• Set goals that you want to achieve for when you pass the NCLEX to help you keep focused. Make sure you make a study schedule.
o What time do you study best?
o How much can you study each day?
o When will you rest?
o Make sure to exercise or give yourself a break away from studying.
• Choose a Review Course that works for you. UWorld, Kaplan, **Hurst**, NCSBN (Just a few).
o Know what your needs are between core content focused or strategies focused for a review then choose another resource for a Questions Bank.
§ Kaplan was good with strategies and had more questions, but did not focus on content (My opinion).
§ Hurst is good with content and has six 125 Question Exams, but need another resource if you want to just do questions at your own pace.
o Understand that the NCLEX is testing your knowledge to practice safely and NOT KILL YOUR PATIENT
o Understand the disease processes and what nursing care you need to perform for your patient.
o Nursing is a art and science and need to understand the “why” to “do”
• Review Core Content. Need to know the content before you can answer questions
o Take your time to understand the material if this is a weak area for you. o Give yourself 2-3 weeks of just content review to understand and grasp
everything.
• Practice Questions...Practice Questions...Practice Questions
o Assess before Implementing
o Think ABCs (Airway, Breathing, Circulation) but also think what nursing care is
needed for the situation.
o Pick the answer that will kill your patient
§ If a patient has SOB and complains that he can’t breathe. You should give
oxygen or he will die.
o Read carefully and look for key words. This will sometimes lead you to the right
answer.
§ Look for words that will make the other options wrong as well as
eliminate answer choices.
o What can you do as a nurse to address the problem in the question? o What is the best nursing action that will not delay treatment or care?
§ If “Notify the Physician” is an option see if there is any nursing actions that can be done first. Only if there is no symptoms that will need immediate attention by the physician.
o Don’t “Pass the Buck” or give the task to another team member because the nurse can always do something.
o Know the Scope of Practice for the members of the multidisciplinary team such as Case Manager, Nurse Supervisor, and Charge Nurse.

o You can’t delegate assessment, teaching, or nursing judgment to the nursing assistants or the licensed practical nurses. Know what the Floated Nurse can be delegated. Make sure the patient is stable with expected outcomes.
o If you carefully thought through the question to answer it to the best of your abilities then don’t linger and go to the next question.
o Select All That Apply
§ Understand what the question is asking
§ Approach each option as True or False
§ Look for words that can make the option choices wrong. It can be very subtle.

o Eat Breakfast
o Breathe and know you can do it.
o Have confidence that you will pass the exam and YOU WILL.

Geoff Hurst
Sir Geoffrey Charles "Geoff" Hurst MBE (born 8 December 1941) is a former England international footballer. A striker, he remains the only man to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final as England recorded a 4–2 victory over West Germany at the old Wembley in 1966.
He began his career with West Ham United, where he scored 242 goals in 500 first team appearances. There he won the FA Cup in 1964 and the European Cup Winners' Cup 1965. He was sold to Stoke City in 1972 for £80,000. After three seasons with Stoke he finished his Football League career with West Bromwich Albion in 1976. Hurst went to play football in Ireland (Cork Celtic) and the USA (Seattle Sounders) before returning to England to manage non-league Telford United. He also coached in the England set-up before an unsuccessful stint as Chelsea manager from 1979 to 1981. He later coached Kuwait SC before leaving the game to concentrate on his business commitments.
In total he scored 24 goals in 49 England appearances, and as well as success in the 1966 World Cup he also appeared at UEFA Euro 1968 and the 1970 FIFA World Cup. He has been married to Judith since 1964. They have three daughters.

Hydraulic rescue tools
Hydraulic rescue tools are used by emergency rescue personnel to assist vehicle extrication of crash victims, as well as other rescues from small spaces. These tools include cutters, spreaders, and rams. They are popularly referred to in the English-speaking Commonwealth nations and the US as the Jaws of Life, a trademark of Hurst Performance Inc. The Jaws of Life were first used in 1963 as a tool to free race car drivers from their vehicles after crashes.
Hydraulic rescue tools are powered by a hydraulic pump, which can be hand-, foot-, or engine-powered, or even built into the tool. These tools may be either single-acting, where hydraulic pressure will only move the cylinder in one direction, and the return to starting position is accomplished using a pressure-relief valve and spring setup, or dual-acting, in which hydraulic pressure is used to both open and close the hydraulic cylinder.
History
The Hurst Rescue Tool was invented by that company's founder, George Hurst, after he viewed a stock car race accident in which it took workers over an hour to remove an injured driver from his car. That was about 1961 and the tool reached the prototype stage of development in 1971. Previously rescuers often used circular saws for vehicle extrication, but these suffered from several drawbacks. Saws can conduct sparks, which could start a fire, create loud sounds, stress the victim(s), and often cut slowly. Alternatively, rescuers could try to pry open the vehicle doors with a crowbar or Halligan bar, but this could compromise the stability of the vehicle, injure the victims further, or inadvertently trigger the airbags of the vehicle.

NCLEX/Test-Taking Tips
• Set goals that you want to achieve for when you pass the NCLEX to help you keep focused. Make sure you make a study schedule.
o What time do you study best?
o How much can you study each day?
o When will you rest?
o Make sure to exercise or give yourself a break away from studying.
• Choose a Review Course that works for you. UWorld, Kaplan, **Hurst**, NCSBN (Just a few).
o Know what your needs are between core content focused or strategies focused for a review then choose another resource for a Questions Bank.
§ Kaplan was good with strategies and had more questions, but did not focus on content (My opinion).
§ Hurst is good with content and has six 125 Question Exams, but need another resource if you want to just do questions at your own pace.
o Understand that the NCLEX is testing your knowledge to practice safely and NOT KILL YOUR PATIENT
o Understand the disease processes and what nursing care you need to perform for your patient.
o Nursing is a art and science and need to understand the “why” to “do”
• Review Core Content. Need to know the content before you can answer questions
o Take your time to understand the material if this is a weak area for you. o Give yourself 2-3 weeks of just content review to understand and grasp
everything.
• Practice Questions...Practice Questions...Practice Questions
o Assess before Implementing
o Think ABCs (Airway, Breathing, Circulation) but also think what nursing care is
needed for the situation.
o Pick the answer that will kill your patient
§ If a patient has SOB and complains that he can’t breathe. You should give
oxygen or he will die.
