Exotic Blues & Rhythm Vol. 1 & 2: Katanga! and Ahbe Casabe (2016)

First time on CD! The first two volumes in the Exotic Blues & Rhythm series were released on limited edition 10" vinyl (500 copies per volume) and sold out in next to no time! Enjoy amazing and danceable tunes from the late 50s and early 60s - a handful of Popcorn dancefloor smashs, a few grinding Tittyshakers, awesome Rhythm & Blues - most of them with an exotic twist! 24 songs.

The "exotic" in the title is certainly well-placed – as many of these tracks take a familiar instrument, and use it in a slightly unusual way – a saxophone, piano, electric guitar, or something else – often set to grooves that start out in an R&B, early rock, or jazz-based style, but move into much groovier territory too! Some of these numbers have the spirit of the cuts we love in the Jukebox Mambo series – and others draw in elements of postwar Latin or exotica styles – while still keeping things pretty soulful overall! CD brings together material from the long-deleted Katanga and Ahbe Casabe 10" vinyl releases – with tracks that include "Nene Aman" by Artie Barsamian, "Green Onions" by Claus Ogerman, "Classie's Whip"b y Classie Ballou, "Cleopatra Kick" by Jack LaForge, "Lucky Is My Name" by Bruce Cloud, "They Took John Away" by Steve Arlen, "Shadow Street" by Kip Tyler, "Cleopatra" by Jamie Coe, "Katanga" by Ike Turner, "Lucky Me" by Chance Hallyday, "Ahbe Casabe" by Marti Barris, and "Thirteen Women & One Man" by Dickie Thompson.  © 1996-2016, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Katanga! Ahbe Casabe: Exotic Blues & Rhythm Vol. 1 & 2 combines the first two volumes from the Exotic Blues & Rhythm compilation series named Katanga! (2013) and Ahbe Casabe! (2013) with two additional bonus tracks (CD only). This album is a colorful garden of delights consisting of R'n'B and rock'n'roll based songs from the 1940s to the early 1960s that all have this slightly exotic, dark and mystical feeling from the melody structures and instrumentation.

1 Claus Ogerman Orchestra Green Onions
2 Artie Barsamin & Orchestra Nene Aman
3 Prince Conley I'm Going Home
4 Joe Valino Everything I Touch Turns to Gold
5 Chance Halladay Lucky Me

Exotic Blues & Rhythm Vol. 3 & 4; Kan-Gu-Wa & Chop Chop (2016)

First time on CD! The third and fourth volumes in the Exotic Blues & Rhythm series were released on limited edition 10" vinyl (500 copies per volume) and sold out in next to no time! Enjoy amazing and danceable tunes from the late 50s and early 60s - a handful of Popcorn dancefloor smashs, a few grinding Tittyshakers, awesome Rhythm & Blues - most of them with an exotic twist! 24 songs.

Wonderful sounds from that amazing time in American music – a period when it seemed that there were so many records being made, new sounds were always finding a way to get onto vinyl! This collection represents an excellent criss-crossing of modes – exotic styles finding their way into soul, jazz, blues, R&B, and even a little bit of rock – thanks to plenty of weird instrumental modes used to great effect in the studio, and some nicely heavy percussion too! There's no set genre on the collection, but the music is all nicely unified in a fantasy of the exotic – which makes for some plenty playful tracks throughout. CD features the full tracks from the long-deleted 10" vinyl releases Kanguwa and Chop Chop – with titles that include "Johnny Lee" by Faye Adams, "Ubangi Rock" by Chaino, "Haunted Lover" by Carole Bennett, "Little Doe Doe" by Curtis Knight, "I Want Her Back" by Dick Jordan, "Twistin Fever" by The Marcels, "Ghost Train" by the Electro-Tones, "Man From Utopia" by Donald Woods & The Vel-Aires, "Red Lips" by Marty Hill, "Little Indian Girl" by Billy & The Moonlighters, "Don't Go" by Vince Everett, and "Monkey See Monkey Do" by The Sherwoods.  © 1996-2016, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Please Warm My Weiner: Old Time Hokum Blues (1929-1935) Yazoo L 1043

Yazoo comes through with another wonderful compilation. Hokum is a blues form that celebrates the more earthly pleasures of life, usually through the liberal use of double entendre. Selections here range from the somewhat subtle (Coldest Stuff in Town) to the obvious (Please Warm My Weiner). While some of the performances are, shall we say, unpolished, others display some fine musicianship, especially on guitar. I especially like the fact the Yazoo does not overprocess the original material, opting to include musical content at the sake of leaving a little noise. If you are unfamiliar with this genre, this is an excellent starting point. If you like hokum, you'll be very pleased with this selection. (The Guardian)

1 Whistling Bob Howe & Frankie Griggs The Coldest Suff In Town
2 Tommy Bradley & James Cole Adam and Eve
3 Buddie Burton Ham Fatchet Blues Part 1
4 Georgia Tom & Tampa Red The Alley Crap Game
5 Rufus & Ben Quillian Satisfaction Blues
6 Hokum Boys I Had To Give Up Gym
7 Papa Charlie Jackson You Put It In I'll Take It Out
8 Butterbeans & Susie Elevator Papa Switchboard Mama
9 Robert & Charlie Hicks Darktown Gambling The Crap Game
10 Yazoo All Stars Hometown Skiffle 1&2
11 Memphis Minnie Banana Man Blues
