Dimentia 13 "Mirror Mind" 1987

“…Alternating between stunning Barrett likenesses and rising guitar soaked streaks that approach Crystallized Movements’ territory (like ‘Lysergic Mental Vibrations’), Dimentia 13 have make a great LP that you should know about.” – Jimmy JohnsonRoger Corman finished a cheapie horror-flick once and still had a week’s rent left on the castle, so he turned it over to a kid assistant named Francis Ford Coppola and young Frank made his first feature, a nifty little fright flick called DIMENTIA 13. So much for the history lesson. The band of that name emerges from their low-budget lair (do castles have garages?) with 10 psycho-delic toons that aren’t nearly as stupid or cliched as their titles (“Roolz is a Rule”, “Psychedelic Mushroom Cloud Explosion”). In fact, this sounds quite okay, even if this particular paisley-covered bandwagon left town about two years ago. –JIM TESTAtrax:

Beat, Garage Rock, Soul, Rhythm & Blues

The 1960s were host to a swarm of sounds in every country around the world. While fans flocked to see their favorite bands play British Invasion, garage and psychedelic sounds, many simply went to the clubs to dance and listen to DJ's spin the latest grooves. The dance craze that originated in the UK and the States moved across Europe like wildfire including the Italian peninsula where the scene exploded with heavy influences of beat and soul.

The folks at Boss-A-Tone Records have put together this fantastic compilation of Italian dance tunes from the '60s. While some of the tunes are familiar hits, they are delivered with a full spectrum sound and a lush production that was popular with many Italian records of the time. The LP begins with a superb track by Rogers called "Non Chiedero auito". It is an excellent beat dancer sung in Italian like all the tracks here. Another cool original "Le Pigne in testa" by Scooters that even includes some Lambretta engines revving in the background. But the highlights for me are the amazing Italian takes on many popular American standards. "Prendi, Prendi" by Claude Francois is simply the best version of the "Bend Me Shape Me" classic. It is delivered with an over the top production with mesmerizing phasing on the break . It sounds amazing in a dance club. Another winner is Noel Descamps version of the Zombies' "She's Not There," which adds some horns and a hip punch to the beat, making it another strong dance number. Overall, the LP is a godsend to any DJ that is looking for diversity to their '60s set. I really dug it and am hoping more volumes are in the works.
We're not exactly beat territory, but the youth movement of those years has also influenced others musicians, this collection is devoted to the "Shake" with truly remarkable high peaks.
Sleeve notes also in english.
I forgot........., the cover is simply beautiful!!
Let me know if you like it... (http://www.acidvisions.com/musicmailorder/fc5d7677.html)

Hallo RYP,
ganz herzlichen Dank für Ray Daytona - Deep Breath, die fehlte jetzt mir noch.

GOODCHILDE

Great Medwaybeat. Members played formerly in bands like The Prime Movers, Prisoners, James Taylor Quartet, Thee Headcoats and Daggermen.

Bio (Myspace)
Back in the early 90's when Grunge was King and Britpop was yet to lend awkward kudos to Cabinet Ministers with "Cool Britannia", Medway's "Premiere Party Band" Johnny and The Bandits decided to ditch the cover versions (well, almost!) and write some of their own tunes. After all, Johnny Barker and Glenn Prangnell had both written for The Kravin' A's and prior to that The Daggermen (Johnny) and The Offbeats (Glenn) so it almost seemed rude not to. Along with former Prisoner and James Taylor Quartet bassist Allan Crockford (taking lead guitar duties here) and former Daggermen and JTQ drummer Wolf Howard, the band morphed into Goodchilde and from 1993 to 1998 they played many gigs including a number in Europe. They recorded two albums- "Elizabeth's Talking Straight Into My Head" (1993 vinyl only) and "Straight Out The Fridge" (1995 cd only)- and one single, "Sarapeutic" b/w "Chips With Everything" (1996 vinyl only). There was one other single recorded but, alas, never released- "E-Mail Female" and "Hang-Up" (1996) would have made a brilliant swan song. After their amicable split in 1998 Glenn Prangnell became Groovy Uncle, writing and recording his own material, Johnny Barker formed Sergeants Mess and joined Billy Childish for a spell as The Buff Medways bassist. These days he is playing original material with the brilliant Vandebilts. Wolf Howard also played with The Buff Medways and then Musicians Of The British Empire (another Billy Childish project) and continues to paint and write poetry. Allan Crockford went on to play bass for The Solar Flares (alongside Wolf and Graham Day) from 1999 to 2004. He currently plays lead guitar with powerpop combo The Stabilisers and bass guitar for the brilliant Vandebilts. Goodchilde remain fondly forgotten so give them a listen.

Halfnelson - A Woofer In Tweeter's Clothing Demos - 1968

mp3@320 with artwork
Not my Rip

Halfnelson was the precursor to the band Sparks, who has had a long, if modestly sucessful run from the late 1960's to the present, with a sound and style that evolved considerably over the years. This album is an early demo released in 1968 and has the same name as a later album released under the Sparks name. The only similarity is the Title - The tracklists are completely different. The sound is inspired by the Kinks, The Move, John's Children, The Who, Tomorrow, and Pink Floyd, along with various California Bands of the era.

I couldn't find any reviews for this so I'll give mine: It is playful, inventive, and almost sounds like a psych-rock opera, with plenty of vocal harmonies, organ, changing tempos, unusual arrangements, overdubs, and various recording techniques. This album is worth having for the clever name alone. Pretty good for a demo!

This "release" was taken from a CDR recording of an original acetate, and assembled and posted on the powerpopcriminals blog in July 2009. The rapidshare link is long dead and to my knowledge it has never been re-upped. I have included a text file containing the text from that post. I hope that I'm not crossing a line in posting this, but it is so good that it must be heard!

The Screaming Blue Messiahs: The phrase Power Trio must have been coined for this British combo who were years ahead when mixed spaghetti western guitars and surf with disco punk basslines with wild, heavy drumming. Probably one the best bands I ever saw live at the end of the 80's, with Bill Carter as an epileptic skinhead businessman spitting out non sequitur stream of consciousness about Chrysler cars, lie detectors and the Flintstones. For the first time ever their entire catalogue was recently released, 6 cds worth of one the most original sound of the 80s. Sorry about the art, I can't do that very well, I'm sure you'll find a way. All @ 320, my rips, my link. PLAY LOUD! And please tell me what you think.

Hello Anonymous,

here is all Manganzoides I have, viel Spaß!

MANGANZOIDES

Garage / Psych / Surf Rock from Lima, Peru since 1996! They started playing live in 1997 and their first release was the Manganzoides cassette in 1998, followed by Mas Dosis!!! in 2000. The original material from the first tape was released in a split LP by Repent Recs (California), while the two cassettes were re released as a single CD, Dosis Completa in Peru (reissued in 2007 in Peru and Argentina). We went back to the studio in 2001 and these songs were included in the No Fun CD Sobredosis de Horror (2002) along witn the Mas dosis!!! songs. In Peru we released Ciudad del horror (Caleta, 2002), including the 2001 tracks and live/rare material. After some interruptions, in 2003-2004 we recorded Radio Komodo, which was released by No Fun in the US and by Union/Komodo in Peru. In 2006 we recorded our final album, El entierro de los Manganzoides, with 14 brand new songs. It was released by the Argentinian label Rastrillo Records in October 2006 and the band's last concerts were in Lima and Buenos Aires in mid 2007.

Manganzoides was formed in Peru in 1996 and since then has become one of Latin America’s top garage punk/rock'nroll bands. The discography began with two self-produced cassette releases ("Manganzoides", 1998, and "Mas dosis!!!", 2000) in Peru, and also includes a split LP with Sir Dance A-Lot in the U.S. (Repent, 2000), a compilation CD of the 2 cassette releases in Peru’s small independent scene (2001), another Peruvian CD with live and studio tracks (Ciudad del Horror, 2002) and the CD Sobredosis de horror on the US/Argentina label No Fun Records. This was the band’s first internationally distributed full-length CD, with 6 brand new songs, 2 unreleased tracks and all 12 songs from their 2000 release “Mas dosis. Their second international CD was 2004's "Radio Komodo", also on No Fun (USA), with new songs combined with material from the 1998 debut.!!!”
Besides becoming notorious in Peru for their wild live shows and unusual mix of 60’s influences, Manganzoides has also received international recognition, including an interview on Maximum Rocknroll magazine (August 2001), frequent airplay on such stations as New York City’s WFMU, a place on several international CD compilations in the US, Japan, Spain, Argentina and more, and even a 10/10 point review from rollingstone.com (?!) of the “Mujer boa” mp3, calling it “tremendous power pop!” (May 2000).
Manganzoides (Rafo: vocals, Gonzaleo: guitar, Cachimbo: keyboards, Ali: bass, Tito: drums) now look to spread their sick music throughout the international garage punk-rock’nroll scene with the Rastrillo Records (Argentina) CD El Entierro de los Manganzoides, released October 2006.
