Portland (/ˈpɔːrtlənd/) is the largest city in the U.S. state of Oregon and the seat of Multnomah County. It is located in the Willamette Valley region of the Pacific Northwest, at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. The city covers 145 square miles (376 km²) and had an estimated population of 619,360 in 2014, making it the 28th most populous city in the United States. Approximately 2,348,247 people live in the Portland metropolitan statistical area (MSA), the 24th most populous MSA in the United States. Its Combined Statistical Area (CSA) ranks 17th with a population of 3,022,178. Roughly 60 percent of Oregon's population resides within the Portland metropolitan area.
Named after the city in Maine, Portland was settled in the 1830s near the end of the Oregon Trail. Its water access provided convenient transportation of goods, and the timber industry was a major force in the city's early economy. At the turn of the 20th century, the city had developed a reputation as one of the most dangerous port cities in the world, a hub for organized crime and racketeering. After the city's economy experienced an industrial boom during World War II, its hard-edged reputation began to dissipate. Beginning in the 1960s, Portland became noted for its growing liberal political values, and the city has earned a reputation as a bastion of counterculture, a view which has proceeded into the 21st century. According to a 2009 Pew Research Center study, Portland ranks as the 8th most popular American city, based on where people want to live.

I started my trip off by hopping off a plane and then immediately hopping onto a bus. But not just any bus, a bus operated by Brewvana Brewery Tours, the mostly women-run craft beer brewery tour company. Portland, or know as Beervana to some, is home to 55 breweries within its borders, and is truly a beer-lover's paradise. On my tour we made stops at Rogue Ales & Spirits, Laurelwood Pubic House & Brewery, Widmer Brothers Brewery and Sidecar Bar, where I had the chance to sit down over a pint with the founder and owner of Brewvana, Ashley Rose Salvitti. While in Portland, I stayed at the Tiny House Hotel, a hotel made up of, you guessed it, tiny houses. In the next po...
http://www.expedia.com/Portland.d178299.Destination-Travel-Guides Welcome to Portland, Oregon, where you can experience the laid-back atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest amid beautiful natural surroundings. A Portland tour is easily accomplished on foot; this city was designed for pedestrians, so you’ll be able to get around quickly. As you stroll along, you’ll find plenty of parks, fountains, and buildings old and new to explore. Be warned, this city is known for its sudden showers, so make sure you bring an umbrella to shield yourself until the sun makes a triumphant return. If you like a good brew, you’re going to love Portland’s alter-ego, Beervana – so named thanks to all the breweries located here. Wine snobs, don’t despair; you’ll find plenty to drink (responsibly) in the Willame...

MASSIVE Manhunt For Oregon Muslim After What He Did To Teen Girl And Plans To Do To MUCH More The Muslim vermin invading our country continue to show us that they have little respect for our nation’s laws or the desire to assimilate after fleeing their third world countries. Whether they’re scamming America through massive welfare fraud, mutilating little girls with their barbaric circumcision practices, or working with terror organizations to bring us down, it’s clear to see that these degenerates are determined to cling to the barbaric ways, despite their decision to live in a modern civilization. Now there’s a massive manhunt underway in the state of Oregon after the sickening thing that a Muslim migrant did to a 15-year-old child, and authorities are asking for the help of the American...

Portland's Economic Development Strategy: A Five-Year Plan for Promoting Job Creation and Economic Growth In the midst of a period of extraordinary change, Portland needs a strategy to guide the city's economic growth over the next five years. The city already possesses unique competitive advantages that make it a front runner to be the center of the U.S. green economy: an existing concentration of firms in wind, solar and green development clusters; years of recognized leadership in al...

After New York Times reporter Freda Moon visited Portland for 36 hours, she concluded, "There is no place in the country better known as a bastion of good living, leisure and happy inebriation than Oregon’s largest little city." As locals, we'd approve that statement. Portland, Oregon, is one of the most enterprising food cities in the nation, holding its own against must larger competitors like Boston, Washington, D.C., and even New York. And despite the many places beer is brewed these days, our hometown has been dubbed America's beer capital. There's a undeniably vibrant and unique culture of consumption here - and it's only growing. So when The Freshwater Trust started to look for businesses doing big things for the world of water, we knew we had to consider the local food and bevera...

Presented on July 23, 1993 Bob Shoemaker, Oregon State senator; Roger Auerbach, goernor's advisor on Health, Labor and Housing " After a series of setbacks, it looks as if the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) might finally become a reality. The Clinton administration has given Oregon the necessary Medicaid waiver; now all that stands in the way of implementation is the small matter of funding. Small matter, indeed. Finding a way to pay for the OHP during a fiscal crisis is one of the biggest challenges facing Oregon's state and federal leaders, all of whom are looking for a way to finance this revolutionary system that could be a model for the nation. At this point, however, the plan's future is still somewhat tenuous. One proposal in the House pays for the Medicaid portion of the OHP ...

Commissioned by the Washington Department of Health and directed by Chel White, these are anti-smoking ads intended for adolescents. The concept is to communicate that smoking would make oneself unappealing to one's peers. The thinking was this approach would resonate better with kids than a message about health concerns, which for most kids are far off on the horizon. Both public service ads were produced at Bent Image Lab, Portland Oregon. The advertising agency was Sedgwick Rd.

Ride along the Portland Aerial Tram from the South Waterfront District to Oregon Health Sciences University at the top of the hill. Watch closely at the beginning and spot a Portland Streetcar bound for downtown. I sped up the video by 20% and that affected the audio. Taken with a Sony HX5V, shot in 1440x1280 at 60 (really 59.94) interlaced frames per second. I use Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 to edit and export. I exported using the "HD 720p 23.976 FPS" preset, but changed the FPS to 29.97 match the original frame rate.

Date: December 13, 2013 Speakers: Michael Gottfredson, President of University of Oregon; Ed Ray, President of Oregon State University; and Wim Wiewel, President of Portland State University. Moderated by David Sarasohn, columnist and managing editor for The Oregonian. Oregon's higher education system is seriously underfunded. To begin to address this issue, Governor Kitzhaber and the Oregon Legislature passed new legislation to create independent trustee boards at Oregon State University, Portland State University, and University of Oregon. This allows OSU, PSU and UO the autonomy to hire and fire presidents, set tuition and fees, and oversee operations individually, instead of being part of the Oregon Board of Higher Education. President Wim Wiewel of PSU, President Edward Ray of OSU an...

In this travel video tour of Portland, Oregon, I travel to Portland, one of the most unique cities in the United States.

Portland, Oregon, is located in the Northwestern United States, where the Willamette and Columbia Rivers meet. Portland is sometime called 'Beervana', because of its large number of microbreweries. The Willemette Valley, meanwhile, is an excellent wine-growing region. At the heart of Portland is the amphitheater on Pioneer Courthouse Square. The Portland Art Museum here is the oldest museum in the region. The Tom McCall Waterside Park is a good spot for people-watching. Several bridges give access to the east bank, where the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry is located. Portland's climate is ideal for growing roses, showcased in the International Rose Test Garden. The nearby Japanese Garden is one of the most authentic outside of Asia. Washington Park offers lush gardens and trai...

Temperatures rising
Sapping all the life from once thriving energies
Fearing failure
Cause of the scheme to run from our enemy
Let's look at the factors
Draw upon our excuses
In the negative mindfeild
The mind convinced, it's time to run
But isn't the enemy isn't the enemy you
you see
You run, it's back again, because you never adjusted yourself
And now, you are in new surroundings
With all of the same old shit, you know
After years of this madness
It's starting to make sense but life, is so hard
Yea, life is hard
And that you have learned
Holding on to your beliefs is noble
But we are faced with reality
Sometimes, to reach that mountain top
We must learn to bleed
So now we revisit the factors
Draw upon all that we dream of
Put aside that old ill mind
And now we breathe
