Hillerich & Bradsby Company is a company located in Louisville, Kentucky that produces the famous Louisville Slugger baseball bat. The Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory in downtown Louisville features a retrospective of the product and its use throughout baseball history. H&B also makes baseball gloves, golf clubs, golf gloves and other equipment (under the PowerBilt brand).
The company announced plans on March 23, 2015 to sell its Louisville Slugger division to sporting goods manufacturer Wilson Sporting Goods.
J. F. Hillerich opened his woodworking shop in Louisville in 1855. During the 1880s, Hillerich hired his seventeen-year-old son, John "Bud" Hillerich. Legend has it that Bud, who played baseball himself, slipped away from work one afternoon in 1884 to watch Louisville's major league team, the Louisville Eclipse. The team's star, Pete "The Gladiator" Browning, mired in a hitting slump, broke his bat.
Bud invited Browning to his father's shop to hand-craft him a new bat to his own specifications. Browning accepted the offer, and got three hits to immediately break out of his slump with his new bat the first day he used it. Browning told his teammates, which began a surge of professional ball players to the Hillerich woodworking shop.
Louisville Slugger Field is a baseball stadium in Louisville, Kentucky. The baseball-specific stadium opened in 2000 with a seating capacity of 13,131. It is currently home to the Louisville Bats, AAA affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, and Louisville City FC of the United Soccer League. Seating capacity for soccer games is approximately 8,000, due to restricted sight lines.
The unique design of Louisville Slugger Field includes a former train shed on the site which was incorporated into the stadium. The Ohio River and state of Indiana are visible from the park, as well as views of downtown Louisville. Naming rights for the stadium were purchased by Hillerich & Bradsby, makers of the famous Louisville Slugger baseball bat, and the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory is located several blocks further down Main Street. The stadium is accessible from I-64, I-65, and I-71.
The Louisville Bats and the City of Louisville broke ground on Louisville Slugger Field on November 13, 1998. In front of an estimated crowd of 1,000, Mayor Jerry Abramson and Governor Paul E. Patton cut out the first home plate before they broke the ground with Bats President Gary Ulmer and other officials.
Louisville (generally pronounced i/ˈluːəvəl/ or i/ˈlʌvəl/ by natives, and i/ˈluːiːvɪl/ by others) is the largest city in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the 30th-most populous city in the United States. It is one of two cities in Kentucky designated as first-class, with the other being the state's second-largest city of Lexington. Louisville is the historical seat and, since 2003, the nominal seat of Jefferson County.
Louisville was founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark and is named after King Louis XVI of France, making Louisville one of the oldest cities west of the Appalachian Mountains. Sited beside the Falls of the Ohio, the only major obstruction to river traffic between the upper Ohio River and the Gulf of Mexico, the settlement first grew as a portage site. It was the founding city of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, which grew into a 6,000-mile (9,700 km) system across 13 states. Today, the city is known as the home of the Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Fried Chicken, the University of Louisville and its Louisville Cardinals athletic teams, Louisville Slugger baseball bats, and three of Kentucky's six Fortune 500 companies. Its main airport is also the site of UPS's worldwide air hub.
The Louisville Bats are an American minor league professional baseball franchise based in Louisville, Kentucky. The Bats are the Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. The team, formerly known as the Louisville RiverBats, plays in the International League. The Bats play their home games at Louisville Slugger Field; the naming rights for the stadium were purchased by Hillerich & Bradsby, makers of the famous Louisville Slugger baseball bat.
In 1982, the St. Louis Cardinals switched their Triple-A team of the American Association, the Redbirds, from Springfield, Illinois to Louisville. During the 1982 season, the Louisville Redbirds broke the minor league attendance record by drawing 868,418 fans. In 1983, the Redbirds were the first minor league team to draw over one million fans in a single season (1,052,438). The Redbirds' success during the 1980s led to some speculation that Louisville could be a potential market for Major League Baseball expansion; however this did not come to pass. In 1998, the American Association folded and the teams moved to either the International League or the Pacific Coast League. The league changed and expanded to Memphis and Durham, and the Cardinals shifted their Triple-A affiliation to Memphis, Tennessee and the new Memphis Redbirds not-for-profit franchise. In 1998 and 1999, Louisville was affiliated with the Milwaukee Brewers and since 2000 with the Cincinnati Reds.

Tomorrow she'll put make-up on the bruises,
tomorrow she'll be making up excuses,
but I've known you since we were three,
what makes you think you can lie to me,
and I'm trying to respect your privacy,
despite the fact that it's killing me...
You say you love him but I don't know why,
he beats you up, he don't provide,
so you're stuck working doubles down at the local dive,
dodging dirty hands for a petty wage but you bottle up the rage cos you gotta survive...
I got a Louisville Slugger in the back of my ride,
make the call and I'll be there by your side,
hey girl you don't have to take that shit from anybody...
That sticky summer night in his backseat,
he made you bleed, planted his seed,
now you've got not one but two more mouths to feed,
I know you wanted your kid to have a dad but name is not the same as deed...
I know you know there's more to life than this,
taking the blame, the pain, whenever he gets pissed,
nothing stronger than a mother's love for her only kid,
except for maybe her battered bones, bruised by blows from his father's fists...
I got a Louisville Slugger in the back of my ride,
make the call and I'll be there by your side,
hey girl you don't have to take that shit from anybody,
got a Louisville Slugger in the back of my ride,
say the word and I'll make him fucking cry,
you are my friend I will defend until the end...
What happened to the girl that I once knew,
I remember way back when, when nobody could tell you what to do,
now you just sit there and let 'em turn the screws,
hey girl I've said my piece, the rest is up to you...
I got a Louisville Slugger in the back of my ride,
hey girl you gotta decide if this is how you wanna live your life,
trapped like a rat in a bad situation,
frozen by feelings of fear and frustration,
Louisville Slugger in the back of my ride,
it's yours for the taking, your rage more than justified,
seeing red, black and blue, and you know that it's true,
