The United States Military Academy at West Point (USMA), also known as West Point, Army, The Academy or simply The Point, is a four-year coeducational federal service academy located in West Point, New York. The academy, located in Orange County, sits on scenic high ground overlooking the Hudson River, 50 miles (80 km) north of New York City. The entire central campus is a national landmark and home to scores of historic sites, buildings, and monuments. The majority of the campus's Norman buildings are constructed from gray and black granite. The campus is a popular tourist destination complete with a large visitor center and the oldest museum in the United States Army.
Candidates for admission must both apply directly to the academy and receive a nomination, usually from a member of Congress or Delegate/Resident Commissioner in the case of Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Virgin Islands. Other nomination sources include the President and Vice President of the United States. Students are officers-in-training and are referred to as "cadets" or collectively as the "United States Corps of Cadets" (USCC). Tuition for cadets is fully funded by the Army in exchange for an active duty service obligation upon graduation. Approximately 1,300 cadets enter the Academy each July, with about 1,000 cadets graduating.
The academic program grants a bachelor of science degree with a curriculum that grades cadets' performance upon a broad academic program, military leadership performance, and mandatory participation in competitive athletics. Cadets are required to adhere to the Cadet Honor Code, which states that "a cadet will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do." The academy bases a cadet's leadership experience as a development of all three pillars of performance: academics, physical, and military.

What's going on everyone? It's been awhile since we've last talked. I found some time to answer a few of your questions. In this video, I talk about a few tips on how you can better your chances of getting accepted into West Point, medical school after graduation, interview techniques, and talking to your family about your decision to join the military. COL (R) Bob McClure, President and CEO of the West Point Association of Graduates, graduated from the United States Military Academy with the Class of 1976, holds an MPA degree from Harvard and has studied as an Olmsted Scholar in Germany. Over an Army career that spanned 28 years, COL McClure commanded deployed forces at every level in the Corps of Engineers, from Company through Brigade.
In January, 2007 he was named President and CEO of the West Point Association of
Graduates, United States Military Academy. Representing over 49,000 living graduates of
West Point, Bob is responsible for the direction of a 75 person staff that annually raises over $30M for the Long Gray Line and West Point’s Margin of Excellence, the philanthropic element that contributes so much to today’s cadets and tomorrow’s future leaders.

Military academy
A military academy or service academy (in American English) is an educational institution which prepares candidates for service in the officer corps of the army, the navy, marine corps, air force or coast guard. It normally provides education in a military environment, the exact definition depending on the country concerned.
Three types of academy exist: high school-level institutions awarding academic qualifications, university-level institutions awarding bachelor's degree level qualification, and those preparing officer cadets for commissioning into the armed services of the state.
History
The first military academies were established in the 18th century to provide future officers for technically specialized corps, such as engineers and artillery, with scientific training.
The Royal Danish Naval Academy was set up in 1701, making it the oldest military academy, to existing in the world. The Royal Military Academy, Woolwich was set up in 1720 as the earliest military academy in Britain. Its original purpose was to train cadets entering the Royal Artillery and Royal Engineers. In France, the École Royale du Génie at Mézières was founded in 1748, followed by a non-technical academy in 1751, the École Royale Militaire offering a general military education to the nobility. French military academies were widely copied in Prussia, Austria, Russia and even minor powers, including Turin and the Kingdom of Savoy, in the late 18th century.

United States Armed Forces
The United States Armed Forces are the federal military forces of the United States. They consist of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard. The President of the United States is the military's overall head, and helps form military policy with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), a federal executive department, acting as the principal organ by which military policy is carried out.
From the time of its inception, the military played a decisive role in the history of the United States. A sense of national unity and identity was forged as a result of victory in the First Barbary War and the Second Barbary War. Even so, the Founders were suspicious of a permanent military force. It played an important role in the American Civil War, where leading generals on both sides were picked from members of the United States military. Not until the outbreak of World War II did a large standing army become officially established. The National Security Act of 1947, adopted following World War II and during the Cold War's onset, created the modern U.S. military framework; the Act merged previously Cabinet-level Department of War and the Department of the Navy into the National Military Establishment (renamed the Department of Defense in 1949), headed by the Secretary of Defense; and created the Department of the Air Force and National Security Council.

The academy, located in Orange County, sits on scenic high ground overlooking the Hudson River, 50 miles (80 km) north of New York City. The entire central campus is a national landmark and home to scores of historic sites, buildings, and monuments. The majority of the campus's Norman buildings are constructed from gray and black granite. The campus is a popular tourist destination complete with a large visitor center and the oldest museum in the United States Army.
Candidates for admission must both apply directly to the academy and receive a nomination, usually from a member of Congress or Delegate/Resident Commissioner in the case of Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Virgin Islands. Other nomination sources include the President and Vice President of the United States. Students are officers-in-training and are referred to as "cadets" or collectively as the "United States Corps of Cadets" (USCC). Tuition for cadets is fully funded by the Army in exchange for an active duty service obligation upon graduation. Approximately 1,300 cadets enter the Academy each July, with about 1,000 cadets graduating.
The academic program grants a bachelor of science degree with a curriculum that grades cadets' performance upon a broad academic program, military leadership performance, and mandatory participation in competitive athletics. Fall foliage in the Hudson Valley is one of nature's treasures. Head over the majestic George Washington Bridge, dubbed "the most beautiful bridge in the world" by the architect Le Corbusier. Our journey begins in earnest on the Palisades Parkway, skirting the 550-foot-high Palisades along the Hudson River. Travel through luxuriant foliage suddenly awash in yellows, oranges, and reds. Take a break at the Lookout Inn, the highest point along the Palisades. Since 1937, this refreshment stand has greeted visitors with spectacular views across Westchester County to Long Island Sound. Our trek continues past Bear Mountain, once site of the premier ski jump in the U.S. Then, we skirt past the Bear Mountain Bridge, the first bridge across the Hudson between New York and Albany. Just past the site of the Revolutionary War Battle of Fort Montgomery, we head into West Point. America's oldest military academy was the training ground for Ulysses S. Grant, Robert E. Lee, John Pershing, Omar Bradley, Douglas MacArthur, and Dwight Eisenhower. Take a break for a light meal in the scenic town of West Point, then we'll head back to the city past miles of rolling hills blanketed by colorful maples, aspens, oaks, dogwoods, hickories and birches.

Fascinating talk about how the unique numbers experienced by and assigned to each graduate binds the Long Gray Line together.
COL (R) Bob McClure, President and CEO of the West Point Association of Graduates, graduated from the United States Military Academy with the Class of 1976, holds an MPA degree from Harvard and has studied as an Olmsted Scholar in Germany. Over an Army career that spanned 28 years, COL McClure commanded deployed forces at every level in the Corps of Engineers, from Company through Brigade.
In January, 2007 he was named President and CEO of the West Point Association of
Graduates, United States Military Academy. Representing over 49,000 living graduates of
West Point, Bob is responsible for the direction of a 75 person staff that annually raises over $30M for the Long Gray Line and West Point’s Margin of Excellence, the philanthropic element that contributes so much to today’s cadets and tomorrow’s future leaders.

A Chihuahua-mix puppy was found in a Las Vegas airport bathroom with a handwritten note detailing that the dog's owner was fleeing from domestic violence and had run out of options, according to CBS News. The dog was found last weekend in the airport bathroom with an anonymous note that read,"My owner was in an abusive relationship and couldn't afford me to get on the flight." ... He probably needs a vet ... Abusers — they have no limits."....

There is a debate on where the "trijunction" - the point where the three countries' borders come together - lies exactly since China says their territory extends to Gamochen, but India says their control ends further north at Batanga La. Around 3,000 troops from both countries are reportedly stationed near Doklam, an area said to be around 15km north of Gamochen....
