Myanmar (myan-MAR
i/miɑːnˈmɑːr/ mee-ahn-MAR,/miˈɛnmɑːr/ mee-EN-mar or /maɪˈænmɑːr/ my-AN-mar (also with the stress on first syllable); Burmese pronunciation: [mjəmà]), officially the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and also known as Burma, is a sovereign state in Southeast Asia bordered by Bangladesh, India, China, Laos and Thailand. One-third of Myanmar's total perimeter of 1,930 km (1,200 miles) forms an uninterrupted coastline along the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea. The country's 2014 census revealed a much lower population than expected, with 51 million people recorded. Myanmar is 676,578 square kilometres (261,227 sq mi) in size. Its capital city is Naypyidaw and its largest city is Yangon (Rangoon).
Early civilisations in Myanmar included the Tibeto-Burman-speaking Pyu city-states in Upper Burma and the Mon kingdoms in Lower Burma. In the 9th century, the Bamar people entered the upper Irrawaddy valley and, following the establishment of the Pagan Kingdom in the 1050s, the Burmese language, culture and Theravada Buddhism slowly became dominant in the country. The Pagan Kingdom fell due to the Mongol invasions and several warring states emerged. In the 16th century, reunified by the Taungoo Dynasty, the country was for a brief period the largest empire in the history of Southeast Asia. The early 19th century Konbaung Dynasty ruled over an area that included modern Myanmar and briefly controlled Manipur and Assam as well. The British conquered Myanmar after three Anglo-Burmese Wars in the 19th century and the country became a British colony. Myanmar became an independent nation in 1948, initially as a democratic nation and then, following a coup d'état in 1962, a military dictatorship. While the military dictatorship formally ended in 2011, most of the party leaders are former military officers.

The Paintball World Cup Asia is the largest paintball tournament in the entire Asia and Asia Pacific region, recognized by international paintball bodies as the biggest paintball event in Asia.
The first paintball World Cup Asia was held on 8–10 December 2006, with 54 Malaysian and 36 international teams.
Since then, the World Cup Asia has grown - the World Cup Asia 2009 was held on the 19–22 November, and saw 120 teams from a multitude of countries, including France, UK, US, Guam, UAE, Iran, Australia, Japan, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, India, and Malaysia.
The World Cup Asia is recognized and supported by the Millennium Series in Europe - teams that win the World Cup Asia are automatically qualified to compete in the Millennium Series.

Myanmar's attractions lie largely in the area of the spiritual. Temples, pagodas and historical sites abound with some areas such as Bagan boasting so many attractions that it would be impossible to take them in during a single visit. With landscapes, a tropical climate, beaches, cheap transportation and truly awesome sights, Myanmar is a fascinating and bewitching destination.
Bagan The main tourist destination in Myanmar and capital of the first Myanmar Empire; one of the richest archaeological sites in South-east Asia. Situated on the eastern bank of the Ayeyawaddy River, the magic of Bagan has inspired visitors to Myanmar for nearly a thousand years.
Inle is a vast lake located in the heart of Shan State which shares borders with Thai and Laos at over 900m above sea level. It is outrageously beautiful and in the mountains so it is cooler than other areas. More than 30 hill tribes live in the surrounding mountains. It is on the tourist routes via Heho Airport. Lake transport is by long-tail boat, with the jetty some 30 minutes drive from the airport. There are several lake resorts on stilt structures. Ubiquitous clumps of water hyacinth give an interesting texture to the boat ride.
Ngapali Beach - The beach stretches nearly 3 km with soft white sand fringed by coconut palms.
Mrauk U - Largely unknown to the Western world for much of its turbulent history, Rakhine played a pivotal role in the exchange of cultures and religions between India and Southeast Asia. For over a thousand years the region which now forms the Rakhine State was an independent state whose rich history is only slowly being paid the attention it deserves.
Kyaiktiyo (Golden Rock) - This mystical pagoda built in the enshrinement of Buddha relic stands on a gold gilded boulder, precariously perched on the edge of the hill over 1100 m above sea-level.
It is important to dress moderately, especially in temples and pagodas. Cover your shoulders and knees, as the locals do. Be patient, polite and show respect. You will be rewarded with lots of nice experiences, because the locals will react more open and more relaxed towards you and let you take part in their daily lives.
Nabule Beach. Beautiful golden sand beach 25 miles north of Dawei City in Southern Myanmar. The beach is completely unspoiled without all the drawbacks of modern beach side development.

Burma has some of the best and well kept secret dive sites in South East Asia. The main advantage of diving in Burma is being alone on the dive sites. Of course this also means that there are very few boats in the area. So far there is no dive centers offering day trips to Mergui Archipelago], the 800 islands on the west coast of Burma. The best way to visit the area is to board a Liveaboard living from Ranong in Thailand.
The Smiling Seahorse, 170 Ruangrat Road, 85000 Ranong (on the main street), +668-601-106-14 (info@thesmilingseahorse.com), offers dive cruises for up to 12 divers. It is managed by a french couple and is specialized in cruising Myanmar.
Sapel Traditional Burmese Foot Spa, No.78, 16th Street (Middle Block), Ground Floor, Lanmadaw, Yangon, Myanmar (Walk along Mahabandoola Rd towards Sule Pagoda and turn left from main road), ☎ +(95)9253988995. Myanmar aka Burma! A beautiful tropical country with stunning Pagoda's to see and wonderful people to meet. Myanmar sits between Bangladesh, China and Thailand.
Myanmar only recently opened up to tourism 2012 and is a hidden gem. If you are thinking about your next place to visit, I highly recommend checking out this incredible country. However, keep in mind that even though it's a rather hot and humid climate, you need to try to keep your shoulders and knees covered out of respect for the more conservative culture.
Here are my top 5 tips for visiting Myanmar!
1) Don't drink the water! It's still a developing country and the water can cause unpleasant digestive issues for a foreigner. Even at hotels, do not drink any water that does not come from a sealed water bottle. You'll thank me later...
2) They accept two forms of currency: Myanmar Kyat & USD. However, the acceptance of the USD comes with a catch… It has to be the most pristine, unflawed cash you've ever seen. Even a small spot or tear on the bill they may turn away (even if it's $20). I recommend having some Kyat just in case you end up some place that will not accept USD regardless of how new the bills are.
3) It's an all cash economy. DO NOT depend on finding another ATM outside of a city center to get more cash out at a later time. You may end up having to take a taxi an hour and a half to the nearest town to find another ATM. In addition, you won't be able to get Myanmar Kyat out of Myanmar, most likely due to the fact that the country recently opened to tourism. Do not expect to exchange your left over Kyat for any other currency in another country. Exchange it in Myanmar, otherwise it's literally just a paper souvenir!
4) Always have your BFF with you: Toilet paper! You don't' have to take an entire roll, but have some kleenex with you if you want to be able to wipe your behind, because it will most likely not be provided.
5) The country is still developing and there are not very many tourists at the moment. Personally I see this as a good thing because it felt like visiting an authentic place with friendly people. Everyone was overjoyed to see me and happy to help. There is a lot of trash and garbage around as well as people living in shacks trying to survive. However the country working hard on developing roads and the people themselves work very hard to make better lives for themselves.
BONUS TIP! I kind of mention this in the beginning of the video but I do want to point it out again: It's hot and humid as well as conservative so keep that in mind. Be respectful and modify your habits to fit that environment and culture. 90% of the people follow Buddhism and you will see a lot of shrines and Buddhist temples and most people cover their bodies out of modesty. You will not be allowed into see these temples if you are not properly covered. Keep that in mind when packing!
And…elephants are amazing!!! So go check out Myanmar. Go to the gorgeous beach, ride some beautiful elephants and see fantastic temples.

Walking Naked (final to date February 14)
My current video work is titled, Walking Naked. To be naked liberates one from attachment and the restriction clothes add to one's body. Also, by being naked exposes one's body, putting that person in a vulnerable state, the only one within the environment stripped down to their basic form. Clothes signify different meanings, shapes and interpretations; labeling a person, they're identity, their class, race, style, etc. I want my video to signify the absence of those apparent meanings while traveling within various landscapes (global territories) throughout the world. Rubbish Clean-Up Day, Mon State, Myanmar
The students of the Ye English Centre organized a rubbish collection day. In two hours, we picked up a truckload of discarded garbage and dry leaf litter, which can be a fire hazard. The load of rubbish was taken to an old airport outside of town, which is now used as a landfill. Myanmar has a problem with litter being thoughtlessly discarded, and our English class is not only interested in helping to clean the effects of littering, but also to create awareness by setting a good example for our community.

My current video work is titled, Walking Naked. To be naked liberates one from attachment and the restriction clothes add to one's body. Also, by being naked exposes one's body, putting that person in a vulnerable state, the only one within the environment stripped down to their basic form. Clothes signify different meanings, shapes and interpretations; labeling a person, they're identity, their class, race, style, etc. I want my video to signify the absence of those apparent meanings while traveling within various landscapes (global territories) throughout the world. Also, within this work I aim to challenge the limits between the public and private body and by removing my clothes this boundary or restriction that we are told (by law and social stigma) we should not cross becomes visible. In the work it is evident and understood that the line has been crossed and the barrier/boundary is broken.

The load of rubbish was taken to an old airport outside of town, which is now used as a landfill. Myanmar has a problem with litter being thoughtlessly discarded, and our English class is not only interested in helping to clean the effects of littering, but also to create awareness by setting a good example for our community.

THE MONSOON DIAIRES: 4 years ago I started a crazy little experiment where I would try to see as much of the world as possible while starting out as a full time med student with no money and a lot of medical school debt.
I then took it further by inviting along anyone else who would want to participate in this nutty little dare. Our belief was that instead of choosing one lifestyle or another, you could have both -- there's no reason to postpone living at the prime of your youth!
This project thus became known as The Monsoon Diaries (http://www.monsoondiaries.com/) inspired by the behavior of a monsoon where we cover a large region of the earth effortlessly in a short amount of time.
4 years later I've taken over 110 fellow 20-30something travelers (aka 'monsooners') -- all full time students or with full time jobs -- to over 71 countries on 14 separate trips...we've been to as far as Antarctica, North Korea, Pakistan, Chernobyl, Iran, Kashmir, Cuba, Myanmar, and many more!
And 4 years later I was able to graduate from medical school on time (I wouldn't say I was the best student though, haha!) and am now working as a full time ER Doctor with over 2-3x as much free time than I did in med school. You can say this experiment shall continue!

Registration is NOW OPEN!! We would like to invite as many teams as possible from around the world. Especially new teams from South America, USA, Russia, Canada and Europe/Eastern Europe!! We look forward to see more new countries participating!
The WCA 2011 will set many milestones as it will be the first time ever an international tournament in Asia and most likely in the world; being held INDOORS with AIRCONDITIONED (A/C) inside the multi-million dollar complex- The Mahsuri Hall as used by LIMA; carpeted with ASTRO TURF playing fields. Be prepared to have the paintball experience of a lifetime, paintballers!!!
