Alex Perry

Alex Perry is an Australian fashion designer, particularly noted for his designs in womenswear. He is well known as one of the judge in Asia's Next Top Model (cycle 3) together with their judges Joey Mead-King, Daniel Mananta, Kenneth Cho and host Georgina Wilson.

Early life

Alex Perry (born alex Pertsinidis) grew up in a migrant, working-class family in Sydney. His father migrated to Australia and his mother was born in Australia of Greek immigrant parents. He has an older brother named, Lee.

After graduating from East Sydney Technical College in 1984, Perry worked as a model agent representing Australian models for international modelling agencies, such as June Dally-Watkins. In 1992 Perry opened his first atelier in suburban Kensington creating gowns, corsets and sheaths. Vogue Australia photographed these gowns that became the Alex Perry trademark signature in his first editorial shoot.

Perry relocated his salon in 1994 to Double Bay, Sydney, where he built up his clientele to include high profile celebrities, social identities and personalities. Alex Perry was a designer at the inaugural Mercedes Australian Fashion Week held in May 1995, and has shown collections each year. Perry’s runway shows have featured models such as Linda Evangelista, Megan Gale, Miranda Kerr, Kate Fischer, Alyssa Sutherland, Nicole Trunfio and Lily Cole.

Fashion week

A fashion week is a fashion industry event, lasting approximately one week, wherein fashion designers, brands or "houses" display their latest collections in runway shows to buyers and the media. Most importantly, these events let the industry know what's "in" and what's "out" for the season.

The most prominent fashion weeks are held in the fashion capitals of the world, the "big four" receiving the majority of press coverage being New York, London, Milan and Paris. Other notable weeklong fashion events are held in cities around the world.

History

There are many fashion weeks worldwide. In 1943, the first New York Fashion Week was held, with one main purpose: to distract attention from French fashion during World War II, when workers in the fashion industry were unable to travel to Paris. This was an opportune moment, as "before World War II, American designers were thought to be reliant on French couture for inspiration."

The fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert organized an event she called "Press Week" to showcase American designers for fashion journalists, who had previously ignored their works. Press Week was a success, and, as a result, magazines like Vogue (which were normally filled with French designs) began to feature more and more American innovations. Until 1994, shows were held in different locations, such as hotels, or lofts. Eventually, after a structural accident at a Michael Kors show, the event moved to Bryant Park, behind the New York Public Library, where it remained until 2010, when the shows relocated to Lincoln Center.

Perry

Perry is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented pears, similar to the way cider is made from apples. It has been common for centuries in England, particularly in the Three Counties (Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire); it is also made in parts of South Wales and France, especially Normandy and Anjou.

In more recent years, commercial perry has also been referred to as "pear cider", but some organisations (such as CAMRA) do not accept this as a name for the traditional drink. The National Association of Cider Makers, on the other hand, disagrees, insisting that the terms perry and pear cider are interchangeable. An over twenty-fold increase of sales of industrially manufactured "pear cider" produced from often imported concentrate makes the matter especially contentious.

As with cider apples, special pear cultivars are used to make Perry. Perry pears are thought to be descended from wild hybrids, known as wildings, between the cultivated pear Pyrus communis subsp. communis, brought to northern Europe by the Romans, and the now-rare wild pear Pyrus communis subsp. pyraster. Perry pears are higher in tannin and acid than eating or cooking pears, and are generally smaller.

Alex

Alex is a common name used in multiple languages. In English, it is usually a diminutive of the male given name Alexander, or its female equivalent Alexandra or Alexandria. Jacqueline Frank DeLuca

Jacqueline "Jackie" Frank DeLuca (born May 1, 1980 in Hermosa Beach, California) is an accomplished American water polo goalkeeper, 2004 bronze medal Olympian and two-time collegiate National Player of the Year.

Early life

Jackie Frank began competitive swimming at the Long Beach Swim Club at age 10. After a year of swimming, she joined the water polo team. In the last game of the year, she played in goal when the regular goalie did not show up and ended up making first-team all-tournament.

Frank is 1998 graduate of Los Alamitos High School, where she competed on both the swim and water polo teams and was named First-Team All-America in water polo each of her four years. Her Los Al Griffins water polo team won the Southern Section Championship in 1996 and her swimming team won the Southern Section Championship in 1994. In her junior year, her girls water-polo team finished 24-0. Besides athletics, Frank was active in the Key Club and was selected for the California Scholarship Federation.
