Wind is the flow of gases on a large scale. On the surface of the Earth, wind consists of the bulk movement of air. In outer space, solar wind is the movement of gases or charged particles from the Sun through space, while planetary wind is the outgassing of light chemical elements from a planet's atmosphere into space. Winds are commonly classified by their spatial scale, their speed, the types of forces that cause them, the regions in which they occur, and their effect. The strongest observed winds on a planet in the Solar System occur on Neptune and Saturn. Winds have various aspects, an important one being its velocity; another the density of the gas involved; another is the energy content or wind energy of a wind.
In meteorology, winds are often referred to according to their strength, and the direction from which the wind is blowing. Short bursts of high speed wind are termed gusts. Strong winds of intermediate duration (around one minute) are termed squalls. Long-duration winds have various names associated with their average strength, such as breeze, gale, storm, and hurricane. Wind occurs on a range of scales, from thunderstorm flows lasting tens of minutes, to local breezes generated by heating of land surfaces and lasting a few hours, to global winds resulting from the difference in absorption of solar energy between the climate zones on Earth. The two main causes of large-scale atmospheric circulation are the differential heating between the equator and the poles, and the rotation of the planet (Coriolis effect). Within the tropics, thermal low circulations over terrain and high plateaus can drive monsoon circulations. In coastal areas the sea breeze/land breeze cycle can define local winds; in areas that have variable terrain, mountain and valley breezes can dominate local winds.
Compressed air is air kept under a pressure that is greater than atmospheric pressure. It serves many domestic and industrial purposes.
In Europe, 10 percent of all industrial electricity consumption is to produce compressed air—amounting to 80 terawatt hours consumption per year.
In industry, compressed air is so widely used that it is often regarded as the fourth utility, after electricity, natural gas and water. However, compressed air is more expensive than the other three utilities when evaluated on a per unit energy delivered basis.
Compressed air is used for many purposes, including:
Energy storage is the capture of energy produced at one time for use at a later time. A device that stores energy is sometimes called an accumulator. Energy comes in multiple forms including radiation, chemical, gravitational potential, electrical potential, electricity, elevated temperature, latent heat and kinetic. Energy storage involves converting energy from forms that are difficult to store to more conveniently or economically storable forms.
Some technologies provide short-term energy storage, while others can endure for much longer.
A wind-up clock stores potential energy (in this case mechanical, in the spring tension), a rechargeable battery stores readily convertible chemical energy to operate a mobile phone, and a hydroelectric dam stores energy in a reservoir as gravitational potential energy. Fossil fuels such as coal and gasoline store ancient energy derived from sunlight by organisms that later died, became buried and over time were then converted into these fuels. Food (which is made by the same process as fossil fuels) is a form of energy stored in chemical form.
Air flow through wind turbines or sails can produce significant mechanical power. Windmills are used for their mechanical power, windpumps for water pumping, and sails to propel ships, but the most frequent current use is to turn a generator for electrical power. Wind power, as an alternative to burning fossil fuels, is plentiful, renewable, widely distributed, clean, produces no greenhouse gas emissions during operation, and uses little land. The net effects on the environment are far less problematic than those of nonrenewable power sources.
Wind farms consist of many individual wind turbines which are connected to the electric power transmission network. Onshore wind is an inexpensive source of electricity, competitive with or in many places cheaper than coal or gas plants. Offshore wind is steadier and stronger than on land, and offshore farms have less visual impact, but construction and maintenance costs are considerably higher. Small onshore wind farms can feed some energy into the grid or provide electricity to isolated off-grid locations.
Grand Theft Auto V is an open world, action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It was released on 17 September 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, on 18 November 2014 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and on 14 April 2015 for Microsoft Windows. The game is the first main entry in the Grand Theft Auto series since 2008's Grand Theft Auto IV. Set within the fictional state of San Andreas, based on Southern California, the single-player story follows three criminals and their efforts to commit heists while under pressure from a government agency. The open world design lets players freely roam San Andreas's open countryside and fictional city of Los Santos, based on Los Angeles.
The game is played from either a first-person or third-person view and its world is navigated on foot or by vehicle. Players control the three lead protagonists throughout single-player and switch between them both during and outside of missions. The story is centred on the heist sequences, and many missions involve shooting and driving gameplay. A "wanted" system governs the aggression of law enforcement response to players who commit crimes. Grand Theft Auto Online, the online multiplayer mode, lets up to 30 players explore the open world and engage in cooperative or competitive game matches.
Catching Wind Power would like to thank everyone for their interest in their bird and bat safe turbine design. However, Mr. Green is now 92 years of age and is retiring. We will no longer be pursuing our goal of bringing wind energy to the 21 century and out of the dark ages. Our turbines will not be available at anytime for commercial or personal use. We appreciate all the support we have had over the past 8 years. However, if you are a manufacturer who believes in our design, we are happy to speak to you about taking over our dream. We stop by Jamie's shop to learn about his newest tool: a high-pressure air gun that can fire less-than-lethal rubber shots for riot control. It's like a really powerful paintball gun. Jamie demonstrates the cannon's various settings, and then tests it with a different kind of ammunition.
This is a short demonstration of pumping water using compressed air. I have the small pipe pumping air down and the larger pipe brings the water up. I wanted to film a bit longer but my little compressor died. The engine is an old kirby/tecumseh engine i got off a mower and is tired. I will get a bigger compressor and pump the bore for a couple of days to test it's production level so i know what size electric pump to install. It is taking about 85psi to bring the water up from about 250ft but i am not sure what the water level in the bore is, as it drops will be harder to pump. In this demonstration it was producing abour 400 gallons an hour. A very inefficient way to pump but most probably the easiest at this depth.

Don't Forget To - LIKE | SUBSCRIBE | SHARE On this video I'm making a micro sized Tesla turbine motor that is being currently powered by compressed air. I'm already surpised by its performance, the torque seems to be sufficient to power a small generator and produce some useful amounts of electricity. All tests made with compressed air at 30psi. I'm really curious to see what it can do on steam. I'd like to apologize for the assembly of the rotor itself for not appearing on the video, it's becasue for some reason the footage was way blurry and was absolutely not watchable. Some interesting information about this Tesla turbine. - The rotor has 12 discs (20mm diameter) with 0.18mm spacing. - Clearance from the housing is 0.1mm. - Clearance from the end caps is 0.18mm. - Uses 2 micro...

In this video, I take an old refrigerator that was no longer cooling but the compressor still ran and make up a high pressure air system suitable for bottle popping or charging air cannons to good pressure. The compressor is removed from the fridge (I cleaned the back of the fridge before making the video) then it is tested on the bench, mounted on a wood base, and given an intake filter and manifold with pressure gauge. The finished unit is tested by using it to bring an air cannon up to 350 psi.
The sounds of wind blowing through the rigging and halyards of a sailboat has a eerie almost ghost like sound to it. This piece was recorded down a dock with dozens of sailboats slipped at the Lewis & Clark marina in South Dakota. Winds were blowing 25mph with gust up to 40mph. Although I wouldn't call this a relaxing recording, it's very interesting listening to the many different sounds these boats make as they strain at their moorings in the high wind! When large quantities of air are required by an air system and air demand highly fluctuates during the day, it is common believe that the use of large variable speed screw compressors can deliver great saving opportunities by exactly matching the compressed air delivered flow to system's demand. By taking as example a case where the daily flow demand has a variability of up to 90% of the maximum air demand, the study compares the energy consumption of six alternative compressors solutions in terms of number, size and type of installed compressors (i.e. oil free centrifugal and oil free rotary) with different control logics and shows how and why the use of large variable speed screw compressors is often counterproductive.

This presentation presents a method developed by our team which improves the quality of very low resolution and compressed images. This method exploits the syntax contained in the video file to derive more representative dictionaries. This method was also extended to super-resolved facial images in the wind.
The single biggest saving in most industrial compressed air systems is demand side (point of use) savings from leaks, artificial demand, inappropriate use and peak load management. Identifying these opportunities is easy; however navigating how to make a meaningful change in demand can be difficult. This webinar will explore several ways to differentiate between how much compressed air you need against what is actually being used. Several case studies will be used to demonstrate how to identify and quantify these opportunities so that the opportunities can be justified and implemented. This webinar, sponsored by the EECA Business programme, provides a step by step guide to getting started and achieving immediate results. It is presented by Dr James Neale, a Senior Mechanical Engineer from...
