Carey Hannah Mulligan (born 28 May 1985) is an English actress. In 2004, she made her acting debut on stage in London in the Kevin Elyot play Forty Winks. Her feature film debut was as Kitty Bennet in the 2005 film adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. She had early roles on British television in such programs as Bleak House and Doctor Who. In 2008, she made her Broadway debut in a revival of Chekhov's The Seagull to critical acclaim.
Mulligan received widespread recognition for her performance in the 2009 film An Education. For her role as Jenny Mellor (based on the memoir of journalist Lynn Barber), she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild Award and won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. In 2015, she was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Play for her performance in the Broadway revival of David Hare's Skylight.
She is known for her film roles in An Education (2009), Never Let Me Go (2010), Drive (2011), Shame (2011), The Great Gatsby (2013), Inside Llewyn Davis (2013), Far from the Madding Crowd (2015) and Suffragette (2015).
Suffragettes were members of women's organisations in the late 19th and early 20th century which advocated the extension of the "franchise", or the right to vote in public elections, to women. It particularly refers to militants in Great Britain such as members of the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU). Suffragist is a more general term for members of the suffrage movement.
The term "suffragette" is particularly associated with activists in the British WSPU, led by Emmeline and Christabel Pankhurst, who were influenced by Russian methods of protest such as hunger strikes. Although the Isle of Man had enfranchised women who owned property to vote in Parliamentary (Tynwald) elections in 1881, New Zealand was the first self-governing country to grant all women the right to vote in 1893 when all women over the age of 21 were permitted to vote in parliamentary elections. Women in South Australia achieved the same right and also became the first to obtain the right to stand for Parliament in 1895. In the United States, white women over the age of 21 were allowed to vote in the western territories of Wyoming from 1869 and in Utah from 1870, and in most states outside the South by 1919. With the ratification in 1920 of the Nineteenth Amendment the suffrage was extended to white women across the United States in time for the 1920 presidential election. Women over 21 were allowed to vote in Canada (except Quebec) from 1919.
Mary Louise "Meryl" Streep (born June 22, 1949) is an American actress. A three-time Academy Award winner, she is regarded as the "best actress of her generation". Streep made her professional stage debut in The Playboy of Seville in 1971, and went on to receive a 1976 Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Play for A Memory of Two Mondays/27 Wagons Full of Cotton. She made her screen debut in the 1977 television film The Deadliest Season, and made her film debut later that same year in Julia. In 1978, she won an Emmy Award for her role in the miniseries Holocaust, and received her first Academy Award nomination for The Deer Hunter. Nominated for 19 Academy Awards in total, Streep has more nominations than any other actor or actress in history, winning Best Supporting Actress for Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), and Best Actress for Sophie's Choice (1982) and for The Iron Lady (2011).
Streep is one of only six actors to have won three or more competitive Academy Awards for acting. Her other nominated roles are The French Lieutenant's Woman (1981), Silkwood (1983), Out of Africa (1985), Ironweed (1987), A Cry in the Dark (1988), Postcards from the Edge (1990), The Bridges of Madison County (1995), One True Thing (1998), Music of the Heart (1999), Adaptation (2002), The Devil Wears Prada (2006), Doubt (2008), Julie & Julia (2009), August: Osage County (2013), and Into the Woods (2014). She returned to the stage for the first time in over 20 years in The Public Theater's 2001 revival of The Seagull, won a second Emmy Award in 2004 for the HBO miniseries Angels in America (2003), and starred in the Public Theater's 2006 production of Mother Courage and Her Children. As an actress, Streep is particularly known for her chameleonic approach to her roles, transformation into the characters she plays, and her perfection of accents.
The Derby Stakes, popularly known as The Derby, is a Group 1 flat horse race in England open to three-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies. It is run at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey over a distance of one mile, four furlongs and 10 yards (2,423 metres), in early June each year.
It is Britain's richest horse race, and the most prestigious of the five Classics. It is sometimes referred to as the "Blue Riband" of the turf. The race serves as the middle leg of the Triple Crown, preceded by the 2,000 Guineas and followed by the St Leger, although the feat of winning all three is now rarely attempted. The name "Derby" has become synonymous with great races all over the world, and as such has been borrowed many times, notably by the Kentucky Derby. However, the Epsom Derby is the original. It is one of Britain's great national events transcending its own field of interest, and has a huge world-wide TV audience.
In Great Britain the name "Derby" is pronounced /ˈdɑːrbi/, while in the United States it is /ˈdɜːrbi/, a case of spelling pronunciation.

Plot: The most expensive party in American history takes place at the newly opened Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City on Feb 10th 1897. This elaborate costume ball is attended by nearly 1,000 of New York's wealthiest citizens, many billionaires by today's standards, all dressed in costumes celebrating European royalty. In a single night they drink their way through 4,000 bottles of the finest champagne, and gorge on a 28-course feast fit for any king. But this epic display of excess comes during the worst depression America has known at this time, and not everyone is applauding the show. The host of the night is Cornelia Bradley-Martin, heiress to a vast fortune and a woman on a mission. She hopes to provide a much-needed stimulus to New York's lagging economy-and to be crowned "Queen" of an exclusive high society known as "The Four Hundred". But she's given herself only three weeks to prepare this astonishing event. The logistics alone for such a massive party are remarkable even by today's standards, and to add to the challenge, on the very night of the ball a snowstorm descends upon the metropolis. Today, the same hotel still puts on huge events that parallel this famous party. The annual Viennese Opera Ball is one of the highlights of New York's social calendar and attracts dignitaries, diplomats and débutantes. Six hundred guests gather every year paying up to $25,000 per table to charity in celebration of a European tradition that goes back nearly two centuries. But what are the parallels with the famous Bradley Martin Ball and what are the differences? Jes Gordon and Marcie Rudell are two of New York's elite party planners. They both put on parties costing thousands of dollars. So how would they cope with planning America's most expensive party if they had just three weeks to make it happen? A thousand invitations need to be sent before the advent of email, beautifully tailored dresses have to be produced by hand, and food needs to be delivered and kept fresh without the help of refrigeration. Perhaps most challenging of all, a battle for public opinion must be won...or there may be consequences for the night's epic indulgence. This one-hour special goes inside the machinations of the Bradley Martins' record-setting costume ball in America's number one metropolis to learn what it takes to party like the rich and famous.

Movie, movies https://youtu.be/SXocVSGIpnM Storyline A drama that tracks the story of the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement, women who were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal State. These women were not primarily from the genteel educated classes, they were working women who had seen peaceful protest achieve nothing. Radicalized and turning to violence as the only route to change, they were willing to lose everything in their fight for equality - their jobs, their homes, their children and their lives. Maud was one such foot soldier. The story of her fight for dignity is as gripping and visceral as any thriller, it is also heart-breaking and inspirational IMDB rating: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3077214/ Movie review: http...
The story of Emily Davison who was killed at the Epsom Derby in 1913.
I didn't think anyone would have a chance to upload this, but here is the 1913 Epsom Derby recreated in the 2015 film Suffragette. Suffragette in my book is pretty much the first ever motion picture to accurately re-create the death of real-life Emily Davidson, and sticks to the 2013 discovery and analysis that she was indeed attempting to attach a "Votes for Women" scarf to the King's horse, Amner.
