Cela fait 29 ans jour pour jour, le croiseur américain USS Vincennes a abattu le vol 655 d'Iran Air au-dessus du golfe Persique, le 3 juillet 1988.
Dans un communiqué, le ministère iranien des Affaires étrangères a qualifié les auteurs de ce crime de "fanfarons dépourvus de logique qui au nom de la défense des droits de l’homme et des droits des peuples commettent des crimes gratuits".

Le 17 avril, la compagnie aérienne Air France va reprendre ses vols à destination de Téhéran à raison de trois vols hebdomadaires. Cette liaison avait été suspendue en 2008 suite à l'introduction de sanctions internationales contre l'Iran.
Le PDG d'Air France, Frédéric Gagey, et le secrétaire d'Etat chargé des transports, Alain Vidalies, s'apprêtent à couper le fil rouge symbolisant la réouverture de la ligne Paris-Téhéran lors d'une cérémonie qui s'est déroulée à l'aéroport de Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle, près de Paris.

El Vuelo 655 de Iran Air fue un vuelo comercial operado por Iran Air entre Bandar Abbas (Irán) y Dubái (Emiratos Árabes Unidos). El domingo 3 de julio de 1988, casi al final de la guerra Irán-Irak, el avión fue derribado justo al sur de la isla de Qeshm por el crucerolanzamisiles estadounidense USS Vincennes (CG-49), matando a sus 290 ocupantes. El Vincennes estaba en aguas territoriales iraníes en este momento.
Según el Gobierno de Estados Unidos, el Airbus fue confundido con un F-14 de la Fuerza Aérea Iraní. Irán calificó el incidente como un acto de barbarie. Por otra parte, George H. W. Bush, vicepresidente de la Administración Reagan, defendió a su país en las Naciones Unidas y declaró que el derribo del avión fue un incidente de guerra y que la tripulación del Vincennesactuó según el momento. En una conferencia de prensa del 2 de agosto de 1988 él dijo: "Nunca me disculparé por los Estados Unidos de América –No me importa lo que los hechos digan" en referencia al incidente.
Investigaciones posteriores de la revista Newsweek revelaron que el gobierno encubrió muchos hechos de la investigación. El capitán del barco admitió en 1992 que estaban navegando dentro de aguas de Irán, lo cual desmiente la versión oficial de que eran aguas internacionales. El 22 de febrero de 1996, Estados Unidos accedió a pagar a Irán 68 millones de dólares en compensación a las víctimas, pero no pagó por el avión, que tenía un valor de 30 millones de dólares, y nunca se disculpó.

La Musique (Angelica)
"La Musique (Angelica)" is a 2001 song recorded by the contestants of the first edition of French TV reality show Star Academy. The song was released as a single in December 2001 from the album L'Album and also recorded in a live version on the album Live. Cover of a 1960s song, this version achieved a huge success in France in terms of chart positions and sales.
Song information
The song "Angelica" was written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, in English, and first recorded by Mann in 1966. Versions were then recorded by various other artists, including Gene Pitney, The Sandpipers, Scott Walker, and, in 1970, the American singer Oliver, whose version scraped into the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.
In 1967, French singer Nicoletta made her own modified version of the song, under the title "La Musique", but this cover passed unnoticed at the time. Thirty-four years later, this version was covered by Star Academy France which decided to consider this cover as the show's anthem and the lead single from its debut album. Fourteen contestants participated in the recording of the new version which particularly puts foreword the singing.

Air France will begin flights to Iran again after stopping them since 2008. This is a response to the country’s nuclear deal. The airline has allowed female flight attendants to opt out of the flights to the country due to some of their policies toward women. As of yet the same options are not available to LGBTQ flight attendants, who face possible death sentences in the theocratic nation. Now, Air France’s gay flight attendants are attempting to use the momentum generated by the decision by taking a stand against flying to Iran, where homosexuality is punishable by death. More than 26,000 people have signed a Change.org petition, created by someone known only as “Mr. Laurent,” which seeks to give gay flight attendants the right to refuse travel to the country. El Vuelo 655 de Iran Air fue un vuelo comercial operado por Iran Air entre Bandar Abbas (Irán) y Dubái (Emiratos Árabes Unidos). El domingo 3 de julio de 1988, casi al final de la guerra Irán-Irak, el avión fue derribado justo al sur de la isla de Qeshm por el crucerolanzamisiles estadounidense USS Vincennes (CG-49), matando a sus 290 ocupantes. El Vincennes estaba en aguas territoriales iraníes en este momento.
Según el Gobierno de Estados Unidos, el Airbus fue confundido con un F-14 de la Fuerza Aérea Iraní. Irán calificó el incidente como un acto de barbarie. Por otra parte, George H. W. Bush, vicepresidente de la Administración Reagan, defendió a su país en las Naciones Unidas y declaró que el derribo del avión fue un incidente de guerra y que la tripulación del Vincennesactuó según el momento. En una conferencia de prensa del 2 de agosto de 1988 él dijo: "Nunca me disculparé por los Estados Unidos de América –No me importa lo que los hechos digan" en referencia al incidente.
Investigaciones posteriores de la revista Newsweek revelaron que el gobierno encubrió muchos hechos de la investigación. El capitán del barco admitió en 1992 que estaban navegando dentro de aguas de Irán, lo cual desmiente la versión oficial de que eran aguas internacionales. El 22 de febrero de 1996, Estados Unidos accedió a pagar a Irán 68 millones de dólares en compensación a las víctimas, pero no pagó por el avión, que tenía un valor de 30 millones de dólares, y nunca se disculpó.

Cette vidéo est dédiée aux "truthers" qui croient que les accidents aériens se ressemblent, et qui tiennent absolument à voir des grosses pièces d'avion reconnaissables (fuselage, ailes, ...) même lorsque le crash est d'une rare violence et ne laisse aucune chance de survie à tous les occupants de l'avion.
Le 15 juillet 2009, le crash du Tupolev 154 du Vol 7908 fait 168 victimes 16 mn après son décollage, près du village de Jannatabad, situé à proximité de la ville de Qazvin au Nord de l'Iran :

Air France will begin flights to Iran again after stopping them since 2008. This is a response to the country’s nuclear deal. The airline has allowed female flight attendants to opt out of the flights to the country due to some of their policies toward women. As of yet the same options are not available to LGBTQ flight attendants, who face possible death sentences in the theocratic nation. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"Earlier this week, Air France announced that female flight attendants can opt out of flights on the carrier’s new route to Tehran after some said they didn't want to cover their hair upon arriving in Iran.
Now, Air France’s gay flight attendants are attempting to use the momentum generated by the decision by taking a stand against flying to Iran, where homosexuality is punishable by death. More than 26,000 people have signed a Change.org petition, created by someone known only as “Mr. Laurent,” which seeks to give gay flight attendants the right to refuse travel to the country. The petition is addressed to the CEO of Air France, Frédéric Gagey, and France’s minister of transport, Alain Vidal.
“It is inconceivable to ask someone to go to a country where his kind are condemned for who they are,” Laurent said in the petition.”*

My name's Michael and I'm the Marketing Manager for Wild Frontiers. I'm here at the magnificent site of Persepolis in Iran. I've been in Iran for two weeks now and so far I've been enchanted by this fascinating country.
CITIES
The capital Tehran is most people's starting point, and in this busy city you can see ostentatious ornaments from the royal household in the crown jewels museum, and wander around the Shah's old residence, Golestan Palace. Just north of Tehran you can visit the Elburz Mountains for skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer.
But the real highlights lie elsewhere. In the off-the-beaten-track city of Yazd you'll find a cityscape dotted with the ingenious wind tunnels -- which could be described as the world's first air-conditioning system - the ancient Zoroastrian site of the Towers of Silence, the magnificent Friday Mosque and a number of beautiful palaces and gardens.
Shiraz meanwhile is a lovely university town, known as the city of poets, wine, literature and flowers, and is a real delight. I particularly loved visiting the atmospheric tomb of the Persian poet Hafez. In the evenings it has a magical atmosphere as people gather to read poetry and celebrate the life of this revered poet. Shiraz is also blessed with numerous picturesque mosques and beautiful gardens.
The jewel in the Persian crown is undoubtedly the beautiful city of Esfahan, which has one of the largest squares in the world in the breathtaking Naqsh Jahan Square and probably the most stunning Islamic architecture found anywhere. Esfahan is unbelievably picturesque, with its famed bridges and lively bazaars.
ANCIENT SITES
Iran has a long and rich history, with the Persian Empire at one point ruling over 44% of the world's population. The country is home to some world-class archaeological sites, including the rock-carved tombs of Nagsh e Rostam, where Darius the great is buried, and the spectacular Achamaenid palace complex at Persepolis. This ancient palace was built by Darius the Great to celebrate events such as the Persian New Year, when representatives from the four corners of the empire would congregate. This vast site merits at least a couple of hours to explore the ruins and bas reliefs.
SCENERY
But it's not only about the cities and ancient sites, the scenery of Iran is an unexpected highlight. From beautiful picnic spots such as the Murgon Waterfalls, to fertile valleys in the Bavanat Mountains, where you can encounter Kashqai nomads and see a way of life that has changed little over centuries. In the Dena mountains around Yasuj you'll find an alpine scenery of snow-capped mountains, lakes and streams. It is well worth spending some time away from the better-known cultural sites to explore this lesser-known side of Iran. It really is a beautiful country.
THE PEOPLE
The people of Iran are another real highlight, being welcoming and keen to engage in conversation about everything from politics to football. You are likely to be surrounded by schoolkids asking you questions, offered tea and invited to share in picnics with the locals pretty much wherever you go.
If ever a people were misrepresented by a regime it would be the Iranians. Thanks to a baby boom in the 80's, over 60% of its 70 million population are aged under 30. This generation is well-educated, worldly, and exposed to global media through the internet. Walking around the streets -- which are incidentally very safe - this certainly feels like a nation on the cusp of change.
So forget about any preconceptions you may have about safety, security, or the welcome you'll receive in Iran. As for many tourist visiting Iran, the capital Tehran has been our first stop and introduction to the country. We used our time in the city to explore the best things to do in Tehran by focussing on attractions and spots that are interesting for younger travelers paired with important historic landmarks.
Beside typical tourist attractions we wanted to see what the real Iran is like and reached out to local friends for further recommendations. This way we got to go to places locals use to hangout, have a coffee or simply relax from the hustling and bustling city center. We used various local transport options and explain how you can get around on the cheap. Last but not least we give a few recommendations for typical persian dishes you should try when visiting.

Shiraz is often referred to as the Cultural Capital of Iran or the city of gardens as it is home to many important poets and offers some beautiful gardens. More than that it used to be the actual capital of Persia for quite some time and therefore offers an interesting mix of sights.
We used our time in the city to explore the best things to do in Shiraz by focussing on attractions and spots that are interesting for younger travelers paired with important historic landmarks such as Persepolis or the Karim Khan citadel. But we also got to try some Iranian fast food and traditional vegetarian dishes to show you the whole spectra of Persian cuisine.
During our 4 days is Shiraz we experienced some very impressive sights such as the colorful Nasir ol Molk mosque in the early morning or the Shah Cheragh at night. Beside typical tourist attractions we wanted to see what the real Iran is like and reached out to local friends for further recommendations. This way we got to go to places locals use to hangout, have a coffee or simply relax.

Shiraz is often referred to as the Cultural Capital of Iran or the city of gardens as it is home to many important poets and offers some beautiful gardens. More than that it used to be the actual capital of Persia for quite some time and therefore offers an interesting mix of sights.
We used our time in the city to explore the best things to do in Shiraz by focussing on attractions and spots that are interesting for younger travelers paired with important historic landmarks such as Persepolis or the Karim Khan citadel. But we also got to try some Iranian fast food and traditional vegetarian dishes to show you the whole spectra of Persian cuisine.
During our 4 days is Shiraz we experienced some very impressive sights such as the colorful Nasir ol Molk mosque in the early morning or the Shah Cheragh at night. Beside typical tourist attractions we wanted to see what the real Iran is like and reached out to local friends for further recommendations. This way we got to go to places locals use to hangout, have a coffee or simply relax.

Iran is opening its doors to foreigners and a train ride from the Persian Gulf to the Caspian Sea is a great way to get to know the country and its people.
The travel restrictions that are now being lifted were in place for decades. Many Iranians are hoping they will now be able to lead a freer life – and we meet many of these hospitable and welcoming people on our journey through the Middle Eastern nation.
The country’s most important rail link, the Trans-Iranian Railway, runs for approximately 1400 kilometers from the Persian Gulf via Teheran to the Caspian Sea. The journey starts in Khorramshahr on the Shatt al-Arab, the river border between Iraq and Iran.
Traveling past oil fields, the train reaches Shushtar. One of the top sights here is the historic hydraulic system, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After that, the train heads up into the Zagros Mountains. The journey is interrupted by a break for prayer. Breath-taking landscapes move past the train window until we reach the highest point not only of our journey but of the entire rail network: 2,200 meters above sea level between Dorud and Arak.
During a brief stop in Qom, travelers can refuel with sohan, a pastry made of wheat germ, flour and sugar. The next section of the track is high-speed and we continue on to Teheran at 160 km/h. The metropolitan area is home to more than 15 million people. The last leg takes us to the north of the country.
In the Alborz Mountains, we find out what role the Trans-Iranian Railway played during Stalin’s major offensive against the German army in World War II. Our oriental rail adventure ends in Bandar-e Torkaman on the Caspian Sea.

Iran, formerly known as Persia, is a land of magical splendour, ancient architecture and Oriental hospitality. Tehran has been the capital of the Persian Empire since 1795. Founded by Mohammed Aga Khan it is a vibrant place that ranks among the most densely populated cities on Earth. Its biggest transformation in its recent history was due to religious leader, Ayatollah Khomeyni, who in 1979 established the Iranian Republic, a theocracy within the teachings of the Koran. The Saad-Abad Palace complex was the first summer residence of the Qadjarian kings. Following several extensions, from the 1920’s eighteen palaces were used by Reza Shah Pahlevi and his family. The city of Kashan prospered under the Safavid, Shah Abbas The First, who designed the Bagh-E-Fin Garden according to a model of a Persian paradise garden. Outside the city, the settlement mound of Tepe Sialk uncovered finds that can be traced back to the seventh millennium B.C. At the time of Shah Abbas, Kashan was fortified with a double city wall that contained more than six thousand buildings, plus forty mosques and three Koran schools. The Koran Gate leads to the city of Shiraz, a city of love, roses and poetry. Famous Persian poets once lived here and created works of great beauty. Today their mausoleums are visited with much reverence, such as the Hafiz Tomb. For fifty eight years, Ionic stonemasons, Babylonian brick makers, Median and Egyptian goldsmiths, worked in Persepolis, they created what was an indelible symbol of the Achaemenid Empire. The highest level contained the royal residences with living rooms, a fire temple and harem. Iran is still a land of desert, palaces and mosques, a country that is timeless, captivating and historic.

Famous Persian poets once lived in the city in which they created works of great beauty and even today their mausoleums are visited with much reverence. With its many domed rooms, the Vakil Bath House was built in around 1776 A.D. Within the vaults, numerous frescoes depict floral ornaments and religious motifs, with life-like characters amid inviting bathing facilities. The Vakil complex also contains a mosque that was built at the same time as the Bazaar and is a replicre of a regal Arabian mosque. All from the same source, forty eight twisted ribbed marble columns support the ceiling that is covered with tile mosaics. The Vakil Bazaar, whose main thoroughfare is around eight hundred metres long, is the most beautiful in Iran. The Madrese Khan is the most well-known traditional university in Shiraz and was donated by Allah Verdi Khan, a famous military leader of Shah Abbas. When Teheran became the capital of the Qajaren Empire, Shiraz became less important. Yet, even today, the city’s scholars and poets are still held in high esteem, with both modernity and tradition complementing each other in peaceful harmony.

If you live in the West, you've likely heard mostly negative things about Iran, and it's been over 30 years that U.S.-Iran relations have been more than a little strained. But the images you see on TV don't reflect what life in Iran is truly like. In the course of conversation, someone recently asked me when the last time I went to an amusement park was, and I said "I think it was on my 2012 trip to Iran", to which he responded, "Wow, there are amusement parks in Iran?! I had no idea." I've also read comments underneath online articles about Iran saying things like "the people there all want to blow us up" "the babies are being raised to be terrorists" "all they care about is their religion and killing"....but you'll see that the people there are just like us. They care (for better or for worse!) about how their selfies turned out, how many "likes" their photo got on Instagram, eating good food, and spending time with family and friends. They have malls, amusement parks, and even rap music!

With its historic centre, Esfahan is situated on the banks of the Zayandeh Rud River and is a gem of ancient Persia. In the centre of the historic city centre is the modest Pillar Halls Mosque which is thought to have been built above a fire temple. In around 1087, Seljuk vizier, Nizam Ol-Molk, had the pillar hall and its many small brick domes, completed. Due to a fire lit by the Assassins in 1121 A.D., the original mosque was destroyed. Following the death of Shah Abbas, around thirty thousand Christian Armenians settled in the Julfa district where they built the Savior Cathedral. Its interior features the history of the Christianisation of Armenia that is depicted on several illustrated panels created by the Holy Gregor. The grandeur of Islamic architecture is reflected in Emam Square, the central square of the Safavid Era, known as "The image of the world". It is seven times larger than the Piazza San Marco in Venice. To the south the square is lined by a domed structure which for some years has been known as the Emam Khomeini Mosque, perfectly aligned toward Mecca. Esfahan is an architectural work of art and today one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

A documentary film about the 1988 tragedy over the Persian Gulf. On 3 July 1988, at the end of the Iran-Iraq War, Iran Air Flight 655 was flying from Tehran to Dubai; the aircraft was shot down by United States missiles fired by the United States Navy guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes as it flew over the Strait of Hormuz. The aircraft, which had been flying in Persian airspace over Persia's territorial waters on its usual flight path, was destroyed. All 290 on board, including 66 children and 16 crew, perished. Iran Air Airbus Flight 655 Mistaken Identity US Missile Disaster
Was it really a simple case of mistaken identity? Iran Air Flight 655 is an Iran Air civilian passenger flight from Tehran to Dubai. On 3 July 1988, the aircraft operating on this route was shot down by the United States Navy guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes under the command of William C. Rogers III. The incident took place in Iranian airspace, over Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf, and on the flight's usual flight path. On 3 July 1988, at the end of the Iran-Iraq War, Iran Air Flight 655 was flying from Tehran to Dubai; the aircraft was shot down by United States missiles fired by the United States Navy guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes as it flew over the Strait of Hormuz. The aircraft, which had been flying in Persian airspace over Persia's territorial waters on its usual flight path, was destroyed. All 290 on board, including 66 children and 16 crew, perished. Ranking seventh among the deadliest disasters in aviation history, the incident retains the highest death toll of any aviation incident in the Indian Ocean and the highest death toll of any incident involving an Airbus A300 anywhere in the world.

Was it really a simple case of mistaken identity?
Iran Air Flight 655 is an Iran Air civilian passenger flight from Tehran to Dubai. On 3 July 1988, the aircraft operating on this route was shot down by the United States Navy guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes under the command of William C. Rogers III. The incident took place in Iranian airspace, over Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf, and on the flight's usual flight path. The aircraft, an Airbus A300 B2-203, was destroyed by SM-2MR surface-to-air missiles fired from Vincennes. All 290 on board died. The cruiser Vincennes had entered Iranian territorial waters after one of its helicopters drew warning fire from Iranian speedboats operating within Iranian territorial limits.
According to the United States government, the crew incorrectly identified the Iranian Airbus A300 as an attacking F-14A Tomcat fighter, a plane made in the United States and operated at that time by only two forces worldwide, the United States Navy and the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force. While the Iranian F-14s had been supplied by manufacturer Grumman in an air-to-air configuration only in the 1970s, the crew of Vincennes had been briefed when entering the region that the Iranian F-14s carried unguided bombs as well as Maverick missiles and unguided rockets. The Vincennes crew made ten attempts to contact the crew of the flight on military and civilian radio frequencies, but received no response. The International Civil Aviation Organization said that the flight crew should have been monitoring the civilian frequency.
According to the Iranian government, Vincennes negligently shot down the civilian aircraft: the airliner was making IFF squawks in Mode III (not Mode II used by Iranian military planes), a signal that identified it as a civilian craft. Was it really a simple case of mistaken identity?
Iran Air Flight 655 is an Iran Air civilian passenger flight from Tehran to Dubai. On 3 July 1988, the aircraft operating on this route was shot down by the United States Navy guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes under the command of William C. Rogers III. The incident took place in Iranian airspace, over Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf, and on the flight's usual flight path. The aircraft, an Airbus A300 B2-203, was destroyed by SM-2MR surface-to-air missiles fired from Vincennes. All 290 on board died. The cruiser Vincennes had entered Iranian territorial waters after one of its helicopters drew warning fire from Iranian speedboats operating within Iranian territorial limits.
According to the United States government, the crew incorrectly identified the Iranian Airbus A300 as an attacking F-14A Tomcat fighter, a plane made in the United States and operated at that time by only two forces worldwide, the United States Navy and the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force. While the Iranian F-14s had been supplied by manufacturer Grumman in an air-to-air configuration only in the 1970s, the crew of Vincennes had been briefed when entering the region that the Iranian F-14s carried unguided bombs as well as Maverick missiles and unguided rockets. The Vincennes crew made ten attempts to contact the crew of the flight on military and civilian radio frequencies, but received no response. The International Civil Aviation Organization said that the flight crew should have been monitoring the civilian frequency.
According to the Iranian government, Vincennes negligently shot down the civilian aircraft: the airliner was making IFF squawks in Mode III (not Mode II used by Iranian military planes), a signal that identified it as a civilian craft.
