Noah and the Whale

Noah and the Whale were a British rock band from Twickenham, formed in 2006. The band's last line-up consisted of Charlie Fink (vocals, guitar), Tom Hobden (violin/keyboards), Matt "Urby Whale" Owens (bass guitar), Fred Abbott (guitar/keys), and Michael Petulla (drums). Doug Fink (drums), the brother of lead singer Charlie, and Laura Marling (backing vocals) were also past members of the band.

The band have played at a number of notable venues, including a sold out show at The Royal Albert Hall and festivals such as Coachella, Lollapoloza, Green Man and Glastonbury as well as headlining Wilderness Festival in 2013. They also toured with Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend and Phoenix, and played on shows such as Late Show with David Letterman as well as Later... with Jools Holland, The Graham Norton Show and The Andrew Marr Show.

History

Early years and Peaceful, the World Lays Me Down (2006–2008)

The band released their debut album, entitled Peaceful, the World Lays Me Down, on 11 August 2008. The album peaked at Number 5 on the official UK Albums Chart and has received mostly positive reviews. The album featured a brass accompaniment, provided by Jon Carvell (trombone) and Sam Kinrade (trumpet). The band’s original line-up also included Laura Marling, who featured as backing vocals on the first album and performed with the band as much as her touring schedule allowed. In mid-2008, Marling left the band several months after the album’s release. However, she continued to collaborate with band member Tom Hobden, who played fiddle on her albums I Speak Because I Can and Short Movie

Noah

In the Abrahamic religions, Noah (/ˈnoʊ.ə/), or Noé or Noach (Hebrew: נֹחַ,‎ נוֹחַ, Modern Noaẖ, Tiberian Nōăḥ; Syriac: ܢܘܚ‎ Nukh; Arabic: نُوح‎ Nūḥ; Ancient Greek: Νῶε), was the tenth and last of the pre-flood Patriarchs. The story of Noah's Ark is told in the Torah in the Genesis flood narrative. The biblical account is followed by the story of the Curse of Canaan.

Besides the Book of Genesis, Noah is also mentioned in 1st Chronicles, Tobit, Wisdom, Sirach, Isaiah, Ezekiel, the Gospel of Matthew, the Gospel of Luke, the Epistle to the Hebrews, 1st Peter and 2nd Peter. He was the subject of much elaboration in the literature of later Abrahamic religions, including the Quran (Sura 71).

Biblical account

The primary account of Noah in the Bible is in the book of Genesis.

Noah was the tenth of the pre-flood (antediluvian) Patriarchs. His father was Lamech and his mother is unknown, but is thought to be either Adah or Zillah, wives of Lamech. When Noah was five hundred years old, he begat Shem, Ham and Japheth (Genesis 5:32).

Whale

Whale is the common name for a widely distributed and diverse group of fully aquatic placental marine mammals. They are an informal grouping within the infraorder Cetacea, usually excluding dolphins and porpoises. Whales, dolphins and porpoises belong to the order Cetartiodactyla with even-toed ungulates and their closest living relatives are the hippopotamuses, having diverged about 40 million years ago. The two parvorders of whales, baleen whales (Mysticeti) and toothed whales (Odontoceti), are thought to have split apart around 34 million years ago. The whales comprise eight extant families: Balaenopteridae (the rorquals), Balaenidae (right whales), Cetotheriidae (the pygmy right whale), Eschrichtiidae (the gray whale), Monodontidae (belugas and narwhals), Physeteridae (the sperm whale), Kogiidae (the dwarf and pygmy sperm whale), and Ziphiidae (the beaked whales).

Conrad Sewell

Conrad Ignatius Mario Maximilian Sewell (born 31 March 1988) is an Australian singer and songwriter from Brisbane, Australia who attended St. Laurence's College from 1998 to 2005. Sewell is best known for his vocals on Kygo's single "Firestone" and his number-one single "Start Again". At the ARIA Music Awards of 2015, he won Song of the Year for "Start Again" and it was nominated in two other categories: Breakthrough Artist and Best Pop Release.

Career

Early career

Growing up in Brisbane, Sewell started pursuing a music career from a young age, sending around demos since he was 8 years old. Sewell is the brother of singer Grace, who is best known for her 2015 cover of "You Don't Own Me".

In 2004, Sewell auditioned for season 2 of Australian Idol, but did not pass the audition stage. He later tried his luck with short-lived rock band Sons of Midnight.

He spent years recording songs in garages and working to save money to move to the United Kingdom where pop music was more accepted. At the age of 18, Sewell moved to the U.K. to record a demo.
