The Egyptian Army officially Egyptian Ground Forces (Arabic: القوات البرية المصرية; Arabic pronunciation: [el qowat el brih el masriya]) the largest service branch within the Egyptian Armed Forces, and is the largest army in Africa.
The modern army was established during the reign of Muhammad Ali Pasha (1805-1849), who is considered to be the "founder of modern Egypt". Its most significant engagements in the 20th Century were in Egypt's five wars with the State of Israel (in 1948, 1956, 1967, 1967-1970, and 1973), one of which, the Suez Crisis of 1956, also saw it do combat with the armies of Britain, and France. The Egyptian army was also engaged heavily in the protracted North Yemen Civil War, and the brief Libyan-Egyptian War in July 1977. Its last major engagements was Operation Desert Storm, the liberation of Kuwait from Iraqi occupation in 1991, in which Egyptian army constituted the second largest contingent of allied forces.
As of 2014, the army has an estimated strength of 310,000 soldiers, of which, approx. 90-120,000 are professionals with the rest being conscripts.

Tahrir Square (Arabic: ميدان التحرير Mīdān at-Taḥrīr, IPA: [meˈdæːn ettæħˈɾiːɾ], English: Liberation Square), also known as "Martyr Square", is a major public town square in Downtown Cairo, Egypt. The square has been the location and focus for political demonstrations in Cairo, most notably those that led to the 2011 Egyptian revolution which led to the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak.
The square was originally called "Ismailia Square" (ميدان الأسماعيليّة Mīdān al-Ismā‘īliyyah), after the 19th-century ruler Khedive Ismail, who commissioned the new downtown district's 'Paris on the Nile' design. After the Egyptian Revolution of 1919, the square became widely known as Tahrir (Liberation) Square, but the square was not officially renamed until the Egyptian Revolution of 1952, which changed Egypt from a constitutional monarchy into an autocratic republic. The square was a focal point for the Egyptian Revolution of 2011
Egyptian describes something of, from, or related to Egypt.
Egyptian or Egyptians may refer to:
The armed forces of a country are its government-sponsored defense, fighting forces, and organizations. They exist to further the foreign and domestic policies of their governing body and to defend that body and the nation it represents from external and internal aggressors. In broad usage, the terms "armed forces" and "military" are often treated synonymously, although in technical usage a distinction is sometimes made in which a country's armed forces may include both its military and other paramilitary forces. Armed force is the use of armed forces to achieve political objectives.
The study of the use of armed forces is called military science. Broadly speaking, this involves considering offense and defense at three "levels": strategy, operational art, and tactics. All three levels study the application of the use of force in order to achieve a desired objective.
In most countries the basis of the armed forces is the military, divided into basic military branches. However, armed forces can include other paramilitary structures.
An army (from Latin arma "arms, weapons" via Old French armée, "armed" (feminine)) or ground force is a fighting force that fights primarily on land. In the broadest sense, it is the land-based military branch, service branch or armed service of a nation or state. It may also include other branches of the military such as the air force via means of aviation corps. Within a national military force, the word army may also mean a field army. They differ from army reserves who are activated only during such times as war or natural disasters.
In several countries, the army is officially called the Land Army to differentiate it from an air force called the Air Army, notably France. In such countries, the word "army" on its own retains its connotation of a land force in common usage. The current largest army in the world, by number of active troops, is the People's Liberation Army of China with 2,250,000 active troops and 800,000 reserve personnel followed by the Indian Army with 1,129,000 active troops and 2,142,900 reserve personnel.

December 17th, a bit before midday. The Egyptian Army violently break-up the sit-in in Tahrir Square. Several journalists' cameras were confiscated and destroyed today. The army missed this one. Follow Tom Dale on twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/tom_d_
All of the footage was shot in or around, Tahrir (Martyr) Square, Mokattam, Manshiyat Naser, Qarafa, el-Arafa, Al Azhar Mosque, Khan el-Khalili, al-Hussein Mosque in May 2013 a few weeks before the Egyptian army chief General Abdul Fatah al-Sisi removed the country's then-incumbent president Mohamed Morsi from power and suspended the Egyptian constitution (June 28-July 3, 2013). The footage was shot on a Canon 5D mark ii and a 50mm f1.8 (the only lens I had with me while out and about). Unfortunately I had no stabilization. Color graded with Film Convert [filmconvert.com]. 8pm January 29, 2011 The night before Egyptian demonstrators overpowered state security forces they welcomed the arrival of the Egyptian army. For some reason there is a deep trust of the military here. Although they are doubtful to play a "reforming" role. Currently, that is doubtful.
Ramy Fakhry, a 27 year Old Egyptian Engineer was killed on his way to work, Army issued a statement about him and is investigating the cause of his death. Ramy's death is not related to Religion in any way. His friends gathered to celebrate his life and ask a question about the cause of his death.
Created for the exhibition "Discovery! Excavating the Ancient World" at the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology, Listening to Karanis documents the sounds of present-day Karanis, a city in the Fayoum oasis on the outskirts of modern day Cairo. Ancient Karanis survived as a city well into the Graeco-Roman era of Egyptian history, and is the source for much of the Kelsey Museum's ancient artifacts. I visited Karanis in 2010 and made a series of field recordings throughout the ancient city, including its ruined temples. While making recordings, I was followed by an Egyptian army helicopter, which makes an appearance here. I shot this 20 minutes after the VP announced the president's departure, people are chanting that the army and the people are one hand and the army closed the road to help people celebrate. I just witnessed history. I shot this on a high ISO so please excuse the noise in the Video. Bye Bye Mubarak.
