Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Amina Mohamed on Tuesday spoke out on how she lost the bid to become the Chairperson of African Union Commission, and partly blamed it on sabotage by some East African nations, and continental intrigues.
Amina, who lost to Moussa Mahamat from Chad, blamed the defeat on “deceptive” neighbours and the “usual, francophone, and anglophone politics”.
Uganda was however quick to distance itself from such allegations, standing its ground, that it supported her candidature to the bitter end.
Question is, could the seemingly suspect treatment between the member states point to a deeper EAC integration quagmire?

The east African common market score card 2016 reveals that some self seeking member states failed to implement the objectives of the east African common market protocol.
The report launched on Thursday in Kampala shows that some countries formulated non-legal requirements at their boarders, a contradiction to the common market agenda they signed in 2010.

Africa
Africa is the world's second-largest and second-most-populous continent. At about 30.2 million km2 (11.7 million sq mi) including adjacent islands, it covers six percent of Earth's total surface area and 20.4 percent of its total land area. With 1.1 billion people as of 2013, it accounts for about 15% of the world's human population. Africa, particularly central Eastern Africa, is widely accepted as the place of origin of humans and the Hominidae clade (great apes), as evidenced by the discovery of the earliest hominids and their ancestors, as well as later ones that have been dated to around seven million years ago, including Sahelanthropus tchadensis, Australopithecus africanus, A. afarensis, Homo erectus, H. habilis and H. ergaster – with the earliest Homo sapiens (modern human) found in Ethiopia being dated to circa 200,000 years ago. Cape Town
Cape Town (Afrikaans: Kaapstad [ˈkɑːpstɐt]; Xhosa: Ikapa) is a city in South Africa. It ranks third among the most populous urban areas in South Africa, after Johannesburg and Durban, and has roughly the same population as the Durban Metropolitan Area. East is a noun, adjective, or adverb indicating direction or geography. East is one of the four cardinal directions or compass points. It is the opposite of west and is perpendicular to north and south.
Etymology
The word east comes from Middle English est, from Old English ēast, which itself comes from the Proto-Germanic *aus-to- or *austra- "east, toward the sunrise", from Proto-Indo-European *aus- "to shine," or "dawn". This is similar to Old High German *ōstar "to the east", Latin aurora "dawn", and Greek ēōs or heōs.Ēostre, a Germanic goddess of dawn, might have been a personification of both dawn and the cardinal points.
Navigation
By convention, the right hand side of a map is east. This convention has developed from the use of a compass, which places north at the top.
To go east using a compass for navigation, set a bearing or azimuth of 90°.
Cultural
East is the direction toward which the Earth rotates about its axis, and therefore the general direction from which the Sun appears to rise. The practice of praying towards the East is older than Christianity, but has been adopted by this religion as the Orient was thought of as containing mankind's original home. Hence, most Christian churches are oriented towards the east.

He founded Nendo, a Nairobi-based consultancy that tracks how everyday people are using digital technology in order to help brands engage with them. Nendo is shortened from the Swahili word “mianendo”, which means “trend” or “insight.” “It’s a powerful metaphor in this day and age because people are flooded with tweets and technology, some of them are inundated with it, but insight is so difficult to pick out,” Kaigwa says. The Kenyan entrepreneur uses social media to pick out the “habits and quirks” of African consumers, to help businesses plan market engagement better. Nendo uses “strategy and storytelling for ambitious companies, brands, campaigns and non-profits who want to look at these Africans and engage with them like never before in history,” he explains. Nendo’s recently released 2014-2015 Social Media Trend Report identified the explosion of Whatsapp in East Africa. Whatsapp is a social network in itself, he says, adding that communities such as church groups and investment groups have taken to it. “When you look at the way they relate and you […] apply that in its ubiquity to your business or to the way you engage people in a campaign, you will see more results than Facebook or Twitter,” he notes. Kaigwa has a strong creative streak. In 2007 he co-wrote and consulted on Warner Bros. Interactive’s first African videogame, Pamoja Mtaani, has made animated movies and helps curate African Digital Art, an online network of artists from the continent working in digital media. Forbes included him in its “30 under 30 Best Young Entrepreneurs in Africa” in 2013. A long-time blogger, he has witnessed the growth of technology in Kenya and was one of the early people to see the possibility in using social media to tell stories. "The biggest digital driver of tech now is the mobile phone," Kaigwa says. “With it comes access to services and a level of connectivity and functional literacy. There are some people who aren’t literate but know how to use their phones. I’m excited about what the phone brings in terms of a ripple effect. Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Amina Mohamed on Tuesday spoke out on how she lost the bid to become the Chairperson of African Union Commission, and partly blamed it on sabotage by some East African nations, and continental intrigues. Amina, who lost to Moussa Mahamat from Chad, blamed the defeat on “deceptive” neighbours and the “usual, francophone, and anglophone politics”. If you want to know how the connected consumer behaves in East Africa, ask Mark Kaigwa. He founded Nendo, a Nairobi-based consultancy that tracks how everyday people are using digital technology in order to help brands engage with them.
Nendo is shortened from the Swahili word “mianendo”, which means “trend” or “insight.”
“It’s a powerful metaphor in this day and age because people are flooded with tweets and technology, some of them are inundated with it, but insight is so difficult to pick out,” Kaigwa says.
The Kenyan entrepreneur uses social media to pick out the “habits and quirks” of African consumers, to help businesses plan market engagement better. Nendo uses “strategy and storytelling for ambitious companies, brands, campaigns and non-profits who want to look at these Africans and engage with them like never before in history,” he explains.
Nendo’s recently released 2014-2015 Social Media Trend Report identified the explosion of Whatsapp in East Africa.
Whatsapp is a social network in itself, he says, adding that communities such as church groups and investment groups have taken to it.
“When you look at the way they relate and you […] apply that in its ubiquity to your business or to the way you engage people in a campaign, you will see more results than Facebook or Twitter,” he notes.
Kaigwa has a strong creative streak. In 2007 he co-wrote and consulted on Warner Bros. Interactive’s first African videogame, Pamoja Mtaani, has made animated movies and helps curate African Digital Art, an online network of artists from the continent working in digital media. Forbes included him in its “30 under 30 Best Young Entrepreneurs in Africa” in 2013.
A long-time blogger, he has witnessed the growth of technology in Kenya and was one of the early people to see the possibility in using social media to tell stories.
"The biggest digital driver of tech now is the mobile phone," Kaigwa says. “With it comes access to services and a level of connectivity and functional literacy. There are some people who aren’t literate but know how to use their phones. I’m excited about what the phone brings in terms of a ripple effect. We are looking towards the PC, phones and cyberspace as a whole for Africa, by Africa.”

LOS ANGELES (November 7, 2010) – After debuting across 120 countries in Europe, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East, FOX International Channels (FIC) today revealed the record breaking audience results for the global launch of the television series The Walking Dead.
The global premiere of The Walking Dead, scheduled in all FIC markets during the first week of November and in most markets in the 10pm timeslot, delivered ratings as strong as those achieved by the US premiere last Sunday on AMC. In most countries where ratings were available at press time, The Walking Dead was the highest rated program on pay television of the night.
The Walking Dead’s impressive achievements in FIC’s major territories include: outperforming every US cable series premiere in the year or more, building at least 100% in audience over the average by time period and winning its time period among all Pay TV in all markets.
Global Ratings Highlights:
In the UK, TWD delivered 315,000 Adults and was the highest rated show in its time slot on Pay TV, based on live ratings for FX and its multiplex, and becoming the highest rated premiere for a new show on FX in five years. Based on the performance of previous shows, FIC expects the total audience to double once delayed viewing figures are added in.
In Italy, TWD delivered 360,000 viewers with a 17.2% Share of the total viewing on Sky channels, becoming the highest rated show of the night on any Pay TV channel and the second-highest rated performance of any series ever on FOX.
In Spain, TWD delivered 105,000 viewers, with a 10.2% share of viewing on Pay TV channels, becoming the highest rated show in its time slot and the highest rated series premiere on FOX for 2010.
In South East Asia, TWD delivered 380,000 viewers, beating all other Western Channels and obtaining significantly high ratings
In Singapore (425% higher than the time slot average) and the Philippines (1,700% higher than the time slot average).
In Mexico, TWD did a 1.8 rating among P18-49, exceeding the time slot average by 230% and winning its time period among all Pay TV.
In Argentina, TWDdid a 3.5 rating among P18-49, exceeding the time slot average by 341% and winning its time period among all Pay TV.
In Colombia, TWD did a 2.1 among P18-49, exceeding the time slot average by 176% and winning its time period among all Pay TV.
In Peru, TWD did a 2.1 among P18-49, exceeding the time slot average by 970% and winning its time period among all Pay TV.
In Venezuela, TWD did a 1.2 among P18-44, exceeding the time slot average by 123% and winning its time period among all Pay TV.

Many tourrists from Germany, England, America, Italy, France, Belguim call Gregory - "The Eggman", "Eierman" or "Chicken Man". Very famous in Africa. and almost an institution at Art festivals in South Africa. Gregory da Silva walks Green Market Square (in Cape Town). The outfit always turns heads - and each day it boasts a new feature, a new symbol of an African culture or practice. His headdress weighs up to twenty five kilograms, his body is armoured with artifacts and his face painted with tribal patterns and an undying smile. Each day, Gregory Da Silva presents the city centre with a new display of his symbolic art. Gregory's voice is lively and he repeatedly offers phrases and words in French.
Born in Benin, West Africa, 1979, he was trained in computer science at university, but went on to found a theatre group in Benin called 'Voice of Spirit' or 'Voix de l'Esprit', which performed politically motivated as well as comic and poetic theatre at the Benin National Library. After receiving an invitation to perform at the MASA - Market for African Performing Arts - Festival in the Ivory Coast in 2003, where he represented his country, Benin, for a week before flying to South Africa. He sold his creations at the V&A; Waterfront and began to grace the streets of Cape Town with his unique form of art. It was so unique it initially led the bemused Cape Town police to put him in the back of their car and call their superiors for advice! Naturally the superiors advised them to let him go and now Gregory enjoys a good relationship with the city authorities...

Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Amina Mohamed on Tuesday spoke out on how she lost the bid to become the Chairperson of African Union Commission, and partly blamed it on sabotage by some East African nations, and continental intrigues. Amina, who lost to Moussa Mahamat from Chad, blamed the defeat on “deceptive” neighbours and the “usual, francophone, and anglophone politics”. Uganda was however quick to distance itself from such allegations, standing its ground, that it supported her candidature to the bitter end.

If you want to know how the connected consumer behaves in East Africa, ask Mark Kaigwa. He founded Nendo, a Nairobi-based consultancy that tracks how everyday people are using digital technology in order to help brands engage with them.
Nendo is shortened from the Swahili word “mianendo”, which means “trend” or “insight.”
“It’s a powerful metaphor in this day and age because people are flooded with tweets and technology, some of them are inundated with it, but insight is so difficult to pick out,” Kaigwa says.
The Kenyan entrepreneur uses social media to pick out the “habits and quirks” of African consumers, to help businesses plan market engagement better. Nendo uses “strategy and storytelling for ambitious companies, brands, campaigns and non-profits who want to look at these Africans and engage with them like never before in history,” he explains.
Nendo’s recently released 2014-2015 Social Media Trend Report identified the explosion of Whatsapp in East Africa.
Whatsapp is a social network in itself, he says, adding that communities such as church groups and investment groups have taken to it.
“When you look at the way they relate and you […] apply that in its ubiquity to your business or to the way you engage people in a campaign, you will see more results than Facebook or Twitter,” he notes.
Kaigwa has a strong creative streak. In 2007 he co-wrote and consulted on Warner Bros. Interactive’s first African videogame, Pamoja Mtaani, has made animated movies and helps curate African Digital Art, an online network of artists from the continent working in digital media. Forbes included him in its “30 under 30 Best Young Entrepreneurs in Africa” in 2013.
A long-time blogger, he has witnessed the growth of technology in Kenya and was one of the early people to see the possibility in using social media to tell stories.
"The biggest digital driver of tech now is the mobile phone," Kaigwa says. “With it comes access to services and a level of connectivity and functional literacy. There are some people who aren’t literate but know how to use their phones. I’m excited about what the phone brings in terms of a ripple effect. We are looking towards the PC, phones and cyberspace as a whole for Africa, by Africa.”

¨FOX International Channels (FIC) Reveals Record Breaking Audience Results for the Global Launch of “The Walking Dead”
LOS ANGELES (November 7, 2010) – After debuting across 120 countries in Europe, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East, FOX International Channels (FIC) today revealed the record breaking audience results for the global launch of the television series The Walking Dead.
The global premiere of The Walking Dead, scheduled in all FIC markets during the first week of November and in most markets in the 10pm timeslot, delivered ratings as strong as those achieved by the US premiere last Sunday on AMC. In most countries where ratings were available at press time, The Walking Dead was the highest rated program on pay television of the night.
The Walking Dead’s impressive achievements in FIC’s major territories include: outperforming every US cable series premiere in the year or more, building at least 100% in audience over the average by time period and winning its time period among all Pay TV in all markets.
Global Ratings Highlights:
In the UK, TWD delivered 315,000 Adults and was the highest rated show in its time slot on Pay TV, based on live ratings for FX and its multiplex, and becoming the highest rated premiere for a new show on FX in five years. Based on the performance of previous shows, FIC expects the total audience to double once delayed viewing figures are added in.
In Italy, TWD delivered 360,000 viewers with a 17.2% Share of the total viewing on Sky channels, becoming the highest rated show of the night on any Pay TV channel and the second-highest rated performance of any series ever on FOX.
In Spain, TWD delivered 105,000 viewers, with a 10.2% share of viewing on Pay TV channels, becoming the highest rated show in its time slot and the highest rated series premiere on FOX for 2010.
In South East Asia, TWD delivered 380,000 viewers, beating all other Western Channels and obtaining significantly high ratings
In Singapore (425% higher than the time slot average) and the Philippines (1,700% higher than the time slot average).
In Mexico, TWD did a 1.8 rating among P18-49, exceeding the time slot average by 230% and winning its time period among all Pay TV.
In Argentina, TWDdid a 3.5 rating among P18-49, exceeding the time slot average by 341% and winning its time period among all Pay TV.
In Colombia, TWD did a 2.1 among P18-49, exceeding the time slot average by 176% and winning its time period among all Pay TV.
In Peru, TWD did a 2.1 among P18-49, exceeding the time slot average by 970% and winning its time period among all Pay TV.

¨FOX International Channels (FIC) Reveals Record Breaking Audience Results for the Global Launch of “The Walking Dead”
LOS ANGELES (November 7, 2010) – After debuting across 120 countries in Europe, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East, FOX International Channels (FIC) today revealed the record breaking audience results for the global launch of the television series The Walking Dead.
The global premiere of The Walking Dead, scheduled in all FIC markets during the first week of November and in most markets in the 10pm timeslot, delivered ratings as strong as those achieved by the US premiere last Sunday on AMC. In most countries where ratings were available at press time, The Walking Dead was the highest rated program on pay television of the night.
The Walking Dead’s impressive achievements in FIC’s major territories include: outperforming every US cable series premiere in the year or more, building at least 100% in audience over the average by time period and winning its time period among all Pay TV in all markets.
Global Ratings Highlights:
In the UK, TWD delivered 315,000 Adults and was the highest rated show in its time slot on Pay TV, based on live ratings for FX and its multiplex, and becoming the highest rated premiere for a new show on FX in five years. Based on the performance of previous shows, FIC expects the total audience to double once delayed viewing figures are added in.
In Italy, TWD delivered 360,000 viewers with a 17.2% Share of the total viewing on Sky channels, becoming the highest rated show of the night on any Pay TV channel and the second-highest rated performance of any series ever on FOX.
In Spain, TWD delivered 105,000 viewers, with a 10.2% share of viewing on Pay TV channels, becoming the highest rated show in its time slot and the highest rated series premiere on FOX for 2010.
In South East Asia, TWD delivered 380,000 viewers, beating all other Western Channels and obtaining significantly high ratings
In Singapore (425% higher than the time slot average) and the Philippines (1,700% higher than the time slot average).
In Mexico, TWD did a 1.8 rating among P18-49, exceeding the time slot average by 230% and winning its time period among all Pay TV.
In Argentina, TWDdid a 3.5 rating among P18-49, exceeding the time slot average by 341% and winning its time period among all Pay TV.
In Colombia, TWD did a 2.1 among P18-49, exceeding the time slot average by 176% and winning its time period among all Pay TV.
In Peru, TWD did a 2.1 among P18-49, exceeding the time slot average by 970% and winning its time period among all Pay TV.

Born in Benin, West Africa, 1979, he was trained in computer science at university, but went on to found a theatre group in Benin called 'Voice of Spirit' or 'Voix de l'Esprit', which performed politically motivated as well as comic and poetic theatre at the Benin National Library. After receiving an invitation to perform at the MASA - Market for African Performing Arts - Festival in the Ivory Coast in 2003, where he represented his country, Benin, for a week before flying to South Africa. He sold his creations at the V&A; Waterfront and began to grace the streets of Cape Town with his unique form of art. It was so unique it initially led the bemused Cape Town police to put him in the back of their car and call their superiors for advice! The UN secretary general says more than $4 billion is needed within the next three weeks or many more will die. Antonio Guterres made an emergency visit to Somalia, where a national disaster has been declared because of drought. About half of the country’s population faces severe food shortages.
In South Sudan, famine has been declared in parts of the country. Up to a million people there will soon run out of food.
And, the UN says, 400,000 Nigerian children face malnutrition. Close to 80,000 of them might not survive the next few months.
What can be done to save the lives of millions in this part of the world? And just who is supposed to act?

The tiny state of Djibouti is home to the US largest permanent military installation in Africa that includes 4,000 troops and a fleet of US assassination drones that run bombing missions in regional Muslim countries.
Now, Djibouti has ordered the US to vacate its secondary Obock military base in the country in a bid to turn over the installation to the Chinese military and its contingent of 10,000 troops, raising major concerns in Washington, which holds the largest military base in Djibouti, Camp Lemonnier.
The Horn of Africa nation, strategically located in the critical entrance from the Indian Ocean to the Red Sea, lies at the gateway to the busy Suez Canal waterway and provides a port to neighboring landlocked Ethiopia.
The US Defense Department pays Djibouti nearly $63 million per year for the use of the Camp Lemonnier military base, which also serves as one of the world's largest drone bases.

This little-known East African nation was born in 1991 after a thirty-year armed struggle for independence against Ethiopia. Another bloody border dispute between 1998 and 2000 left some 80,000 people dead. Ever since then, Ethiopia has occupied part of Eritrea, which claims it is threatened by its vast neighbour.
The Eritrean government has therefore implemented an indefinite national military service, which is compulsory. This poorly paid service, which can last more than a decade, is the main reason why so many young people try to flee. They also want to escape poverty and the authoritarian Marxist regime of President Isaias Afwerki, the independence hero who has been in power for the last 25 years.
Our reporters met ordinary Eritreans, members of the government and the government's opponents in exile in a bid to understand this isolated, fascinating nation.
