Most groups at Disney World are great- lots of fun, well behaved... but there were a few that weren't just bad. They were horrible. And there was one that you heard rumors about, that people just hated when they arrived. Here they are and a couple of stories explaining why.
A behind the scenes look at what a former worker at Disney World, Silver Dollar City, and Busch Gardens Florida experienced in his time working at the parks. From driving large safari trucks around live wild animals while cracking one silly joke after another, to spending 5 years as a photopass photographer at Walt Disney World and seeing and experiencing all sorts of things, to being a conductor and train robber on the famous Frisco Silver Dollar Line at Silver Dollar City. My first week as a Disneyland Paris cast member!
Weekly vlog number one is online! I show you my first week as a Disneyland Paris cast member! I will be going to work at the customer relationship department and I am so excited to start working there. First I will have to finish a very long and difficult training, but I am sure it will be worth it!
In this weekly vlog I share you how I prepared for my trip to Paris and where I live (La Boiserie). I talk about my first days of introduction and meeting new people. On saturday I went to the park and had an amazing time!

A music video for "Animals", the 2nd single to be lifted from the forthcoming debut album "Family" by Cast of Cheers.
The concept of the video was based around 16 VCR players and 16 Televisions. Each band member was divided into four and each section was filmed playing back the song. So each member had four videos of themselves playing back the single with the camera fixed on a different part of their body. This footage was then put onto DVD and then transferred onto VHS.
The televisions were then positioned into a stack of 16 and each was connected up to a VCR player. Each VHS was put into its relevant player and rewound to the start. On the day the band and crew all looked after two video players each. Once the camera was rolling there was a countdown for everyone to press play on their VCRS at the right time. As each VCR was different, some had a different reaction and playback time and so this all had to be taken into consideration.
The chorus shots were made by using a Splitter as I wanted the chorus to be a little calmer than the verse in terms of visual. The splitter took one image and was able to send it over all 16 televisions or rather 15 as the bottom right television exploded during the first days shoot. All animal footage was available online from freeanimalvideos.org which was handy.
The camera used for the shoot was the Canon C300. The videos concept wasn't ever going to show the cameras capabilities off to it's full extent but one of the major benefits I felt was how it handled the wires and bits of equipment that appeared under the televisions and on the ground. When shooting gigs or videos on a 7D using the same Tokina 11-16mm lens I sometimes find that when there are thin wires or railings in shot they can pixilate and appear to be moving. The C300 eleminated this straight away.
Another big perk of the camera is the colour it captures. This was filmed on Cine 2 mode and I was so happy with the colours and clarity that the whole video is basically ungraded. The only shots that have a slight grade are the tv guitar and behind the tv's sections. Everything else appears as shot on camera. That made editing very smooth and enjoyable. It also tied in nicely with the whole concept of the video which was to make a seemingly technically flawed format such as VHS work for us. I have no doubt there are people skilled in after effects and various other program's that could effectively have faked this video and made it without the use of one VCR. It was my intention however to film everything in reality so that there was basically nothing to do in post other than order the shots.

Disneyland Paris
Disneyland Paris, originally Euro Disney Resort, is an entertainment resort in Marne-la-Vallée, a new town located 32 km (20 mi) east of the centre of Paris, and is the most visited theme park in all of France and Europe. It is owned and operated by Euro Disney S.C.A., a publicly traded company in which The Walt Disney Company owns a majority stake. History
Seeking a location for a European resort
Following the success of Walt Disney World in Florida, plans to build a similar theme park in Europe emerged in 1972. Under the leadership of E. Cardon Walker, Tokyo Disneyland opened in 1983 in Japan with instant success, forming a catalyst for international expansion. In late 1984 the heads of Disney's theme park division, Dick Nunis and Jim Cora, presented a list of approximately 1,200 possible European locations for the park. By March 1985, the number of possible locations for the park had been reduced to four; two in France and two in Spain. Both nations saw the potential economic advantages of a Disney theme park and offered competing financing deals to Disney.

Plot: It's a hotel with walls in the corridor covered with striped paper, crossed like bars of a dingy prison, its rooms as large as cells. The Select Hotel is a dead end place for those who do not have enough cash to go somewhere else. The last shelter for those who hang around at night. These shadows walking silently along the streets, selling their poor body heat for a few crumpled banknotes, swallow and digested by their voracious thirst for a cheap high. Enough to forget for a while the distress of a ruined life and to dream of a more rejoicing elsewhere. Nathalie and her brother Tof struggle against this futureless world. Pierre, a shoe-repairer, troubled by Nathalie's grace will take part for a while to the life of these two children of misery.

The Cast of Cheers : Animals (Music Video)
A music video for "Animals", the 2nd single to be lifted from the forthcoming debut album "Family" by Cast of Cheers. The concept of the video was based around 16 VCR players and 16 Televisions. Each band member was divided into four and each section was filmed playing back the song. So each member had four videos of themselves playing back the single with the camera fixed on a different part of their body. This footage was then put onto DVD and then transferred onto VHS. The televisions were then positioned into a stack of 16 and each was connected up to a VCR player. Each VHS was put into its relevant player and rewound to the start. I will be going to work at the customer relationship department and I am so excited to start working there. First I will have to finish a very long and difficult training, but I am sure it will be worth it!

A music video for "Animals", the 2nd single to be lifted from the forthcoming debut album "Family" by Cast of Cheers.
The concept of the video was based around 16 VCR players and 16 Televisions. Each band member was divided into four and each section was filmed playing back the song. So each member had four videos of themselves playing back the single with the camera fixed on a different part of their body. This footage was then put onto DVD and then transferred onto VHS.
The televisions were then positioned into a stack of 16 and each was connected up to a VCR player. Each VHS was put into its relevant player and rewound to the start. On the day the band and crew all looked after two video players each. Once the camera was rolling there was a countdown for everyone to press play on their VCRS at the right time. As each VCR was different, some had a different reaction and playback time and so this all had to be taken into consideration.
The chorus shots were made by using a Splitter as I wanted the chorus to be a little calmer than the verse in terms of visual. The splitter took one image and was able to send it over all 16 televisions or rather 15 as the bottom right television exploded during the first days shoot. All animal footage was available online from freeanimalvideos.org which was handy.
The camera used for the shoot was the Canon C300. The videos concept wasn't ever going to show the cameras capabilities off to it's full extent but one of the major benefits I felt was how it handled the wires and bits of equipment that appeared under the televisions and on the ground. When shooting gigs or videos on a 7D using the same Tokina 11-16mm lens I sometimes find that when there are thin wires or railings in shot they can pixilate and appear to be moving. The C300 eleminated this straight away.
Another big perk of the camera is the colour it captures. This was filmed on Cine 2 mode and I was so happy with the colours and clarity that the whole video is basically ungraded. The only shots that have a slight grade are the tv guitar and behind the tv's sections. Everything else appears as shot on camera. That made editing very smooth and enjoyable. It also tied in nicely with the whole concept of the video which was to make a seemingly technically flawed format such as VHS work for us. I have no doubt there are people skilled in after effects and various other program's that could effectively have faked this video and made it without the use of one VCR. It was my intention however to film everything in reality so that there was basically nothing to do in post other than order the shots.

Plenty of instructors express doubts about the effects of hauling the line during the cast; however lots of discussions on basic physics and some video experiments (http://vimeo.com/album/1532129) seem to have had an effect on how some of them address this issue lately.
Nonetheless a last objection remains: They say that, although hauling obviously does load the rod, mentioning it is misleading, since the main goal of hauling is to give more speed to the line via the line hand.
And this is very true: rod loading is only a byproduct of the haul; but why point out this issue only when it comes to hauling? In fact rod loading is always a byproduct of the casting process.
For years flycasting has been summarized in sentences like “loading the rod and then unloading it to propel the line”. This mantra, repeated so many times, led to the idea that every action by the caster that results in rod loading is good just due to that; logically, from that we should deduct that our casting problems come from failing to load the rod.
This is totally misleading because the main use of loading/unloading the rod is not to propel the line whatsoever. The function of rod loading is to allow us to apply force as straight to the target as possible, along a longer distance, so we can transfer more energy to the line, which results in more line speed. Something very different from the "bow and arrow" view. But this is serious stuff for another article.
And you might be wondering: What does all of this have to do with the title of this experiment? Is this guy getting mad? Well, not totally… yet. :-D
The difficulties of practicing roll casts on grass have been traditionally explained by "the grass doesn't grip the line like the water does, so the rod doesn't load, making the cast more difficult". And what I had in mind was: if supporting that hauling loads the rod (something that, in fact, does) is considered misleading, what to say about defending that the anchor in a roll cast loads the rod, if, in fact, it doesn't?
This has encouraged me to edit some new footage to analyze the origin of the problems with the roll cast.

Well, I have read that statement so many times that I think just the opposite: "the anchor loads the rod" has been the most common explanation of the role of the anchor in roll and spey casts.
Just one example taken from page 9 of the book Two-Handed Fly Casting by Al Burh (member of the FFF's Board of Governors and chairman of the Two-Handed Casting Instructor Program):
"The line that is allowed to anchor or rest on the surface will in turn be the resistance or load for the forward cast."

The Cast of Cheers : Animals (Music Video)
A music video for "Animals", the 2nd single to be lifted from the forthcoming debut album "Family" by Cast of Cheers. The concept of the video was based around 16 VCR players and 16 Televisions. Each band member was divided into four and each section was filmed playing back the song. So each member had four videos of themselves playing back the single with the camera fixed on a different part of their body. This footage was then put onto DVD and then transferred onto VHS. The televisions were then positioned into a stack of 16 and each was connected up to a VCR player. Each VHS was put into its relevant player and rewound to the start. From driving large safari trucks around live wild animals while cracking one silly joke after another, to spending 5 years as a photopass photographer at Walt Disney World and seeing and experiencing all sorts of things, to being a conductor and train robber on the famous Frisco Silver Dollar Line at Silver Dollar City. A music video for "Animals", the 2nd single to be lifted from the forthcoming debut album "Family" by Cast of Cheers.
The concept of the video was based around 16 VCR players and 16 Televisions. Each band member was divided into four and each section was filmed playing back the song. So each member had four videos of themselves playing back the single with the camera fixed on a different part of their body. This footage was then put onto DVD and then transferred onto VHS.
The televisions were then positioned into a stack of 16 and each was connected up to a VCR player. Each VHS was put into its relevant player and rewound to the start. On the day the band and crew all looked after two video players each. Once the camera was rolling there was a countdown for everyone to press play on their VCRS at the right time. As each VCR was different, some had a different reaction and playback time and so this all had to be taken into consideration.
The chorus shots were made by using a Splitter as I wanted the chorus to be a little calmer than the verse in terms of visual. The splitter took one image and was able to send it over all 16 televisions or rather 15 as the bottom right television exploded during the first days shoot. All animal footage was available online from freeanimalvideos.org which was handy.
The camera used for the shoot was the Canon C300. The videos concept wasn't ever going to show the cameras capabilities off to it's full extent but one of the major benefits I felt was how it handled the wires and bits of equipment that appeared under the televisions and on the ground. When shooting gigs or videos on a 7D using the same Tokina 11-16mm lens I sometimes find that when there are thin wires or railings in shot they can pixilate and appear to be moving. The C300 eleminated this straight away.
Another big perk of the camera is the colour it captures. This was filmed on Cine 2 mode and I was so happy with the colours and clarity that the whole video is basically ungraded. The only shots that have a slight grade are the tv guitar and behind the tv's sections. Everything else appears as shot on camera. That made editing very smooth and enjoyable. It also tied in nicely with the whole concept of the video which was to make a seemingly technically flawed format such as VHS work for us. I have no doubt there are people skilled in after effects and various other program's that could effectively have faked this video and made it without the use of one VCR. It was my intention however to film everything in reality so that there was basically nothing to do in post other than order the shots.

On the 40th anniversary of the famous ‘Blue Marble’ photograph taken of Earth from space, Planetary Collective presents a short film documenting astronauts’ life-changing stories of seeing the Earth from the outside – a perspective-altering experience often described as the Overview Effect.
The Overview Effect, first described by author Frank White in 1987, is an experience that transforms astronauts’ perspective of the planet and mankind’s place upon it. Common features of the experience are a feeling of awe for the planet, a profound understanding of the interconnection of all life, and a renewed sense of responsibility for taking care of the environment.
‘Overview’ is a short film that explores this phenomenon through interviews with five astronauts who have experienced the Overview Effect. The film also features insights from commentators and thinkers on the wider implications and importance of this understanding for society, and our relationship to the environment.

Plenty of instructors express doubts about the effects of hauling the line during the cast; however lots of discussions on basic physics and some video experiments (http://vimeo.com/album/1532129) seem to have had an effect on how some of them address this issue lately.
Nonetheless a last objection remains: They say that, although hauling obviously does load the rod, mentioning it is misleading, since the main goal of hauling is to give more speed to the line via the line hand.
And this is very true: rod loading is only a byproduct of the haul; but why point out this issue only when it comes to hauling? In fact rod loading is always a byproduct of the casting process.
For years flycasting has been summarized in sentences like “loading the rod and then unloading it to propel the line”. This mantra, repeated so many times, led to the idea that every action by the caster that results in rod loading is good just due to that; logically, from that we should deduct that our casting problems come from failing to load the rod.
This is totally misleading because the main use of loading/unloading the rod is not to propel the line whatsoever. The function of rod loading is to allow us to apply force as straight to the target as possible, along a longer distance, so we can transfer more energy to the line, which results in more line speed. Something very different from the "bow and arrow" view. But this is serious stuff for another article.
And you might be wondering: What does all of this have to do with the title of this experiment? Is this guy getting mad? Well, not totally… yet. :-D
The difficulties of practicing roll casts on grass have been traditionally explained by "the grass doesn't grip the line like the water does, so the rod doesn't load, making the cast more difficult". And what I had in mind was: if supporting that hauling loads the rod (something that, in fact, does) is considered misleading, what to say about defending that the anchor in a roll cast loads the rod, if, in fact, it doesn't?
This has encouraged me to edit some new footage to analyze the origin of the problems with the roll cast.

It says that "the anchor loads the rod" isn't a very common concept among instructors.
Well, I have read that statement so many times that I think just the opposite: "the anchor loads the rod" has been the most common explanation of the role of the anchor in roll and spey casts.
Just one example taken from page 9 of the book Two-Handed Fly Casting by Al Burh (member of the FFF's Board of Governors and chairman of the Two-Handed Casting Instructor Program):
"The line that is allowed to anchor or rest on the surface will in turn be the resistance or load for the forward cast."
