Jackson DeForest Kelley (January 20, 1920 – June 11, 1999) was an American actor, screenwriter, poet and singer known for his roles in Westerns and as Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy of the USS Enterprise in the television and film series Star Trek.
Kelley was delivered by his uncle at his parents' home in Toccoa, Georgia, the son of Clora (née Casey) and Ernest David Kelley, who was a Baptist minister. DeForest was named after the pioneering electronics engineer Lee De Forest. He later named his Star Trek character's father "David" after his own father. Kelley had an older brother, Ernest Casey Kelley. Kelley was immersed in his father's mission in Conyers and told his father that failure would mean "wreck and ruin". Before the end of his first year at Conyers, Kelley was regularly putting to use his musical talents and often sang solo in morning church services. Eventually, this led to an appearance on the radio station WSB AM in Atlanta, Georgia. As a result of his radio work, he won an engagement with Lew Forbes and his orchestra at the Paramount Theater.
Star Trek is an American science fiction entertainment franchise created by Gene Roddenberry and owned by CBS (TV series) and Paramount Pictures (Film Rights).Star Trek: The Original Series and its live-action TV spin-off series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Enterprise as well as the Star Trek film franchise make up the main canon. The canonicity of Star Trek: The Animated Series is debated, and the expansive library of Star Trek novels and comics is generally considered non-canon, although still part of the franchise.
William "Bill" Shatner (born March 22, 1931) is a Canadian actor, singer, author, producer, director, spokesman, and comedian. He became a cultural icon for his portrayal of James T. Kirk, Captain of the USS Enterprise, in the Star Trek franchise. He has written a series of books chronicling his experiences playing Captain Kirk and being a part of Star Trek, and has co-written several novels set in the Star Trek universe. He has also written a series of science fiction novels called TekWar which was adapted for television.
Shatner also played the eponymous veteran police sergeant in T. J. Hooker (1982–86). Afterwards, he hosted the reality-based television series Rescue 911 (1989–96), which won a People's Choice Award for Favorite New TV Dramatic Series. He has since worked as a musician, author, director and celebrity pitchman. He also starred as attorney Denny Crane in the television dramas The Practice (2004) and its spin-off Boston Legal (2004–08), for which he won two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award.
Woolgathering is a book by Patti Smith, published in 1992.
Leonard H. "Bones" McCoy is a character in the American science fiction franchise Star Trek. First portrayed by DeForest Kelley in the original Star Trek series, McCoy also appears in the animated Star Trek series, six Star Trek movies, the pilot episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and in numerous books, comics, and video games.Karl Urban assumed the role of the character in the 2009 film Star Trek, its 2013 sequel Star Trek Into Darkness and 2016 sequel Star Trek Beyond.
McCoy was born in Georgia, January 20, 2227. The son of David, he attended the University of Mississippi and is a divorcé, but later married Natira, the priestess of Yonada, characterized in the episode, For the World Is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky. In 2266, McCoy was posted as chief medical officer of the USS Enterprise under Captain James T. Kirk who often calls him "Bones". McCoy and Kirk are good friends, even "brotherly". The passionate, sometimes cantankerous McCoy frequently argues with Kirk's other confidant, science officer Spock, and occasionally is bigoted toward Spock's Vulcan heritage. McCoy often plays the role of Kirk's conscience, offering a counterpoint to Spock's logic. McCoy is suspicious of technology, especially the transporter; as a physician, he prefers less intrusive treatment and believes in the body's innate recuperative powers. The character's nickname, "Bones", is a play on sawbones, an epithet for physicians, in particular, those qualified as surgeons.

We decided to take him to two cities on one weekend, Tampa and Ft. Lauderdale to maximize exposure, so there were 2 Q&A; sessions, one in each city. This is the Q&A; from Tampa. The audio was not activated for this Q&A; until the 9:02 mark, but he basically repeats the same things at the second Q&A; in Fort Laud...

DeForest Kelley at a Star Trek convention on January 20, 1988 in Fort Lauderdale FL. A wonderful actor with years of experience and tales to tell. He is greeted with the usual applause then some surprise birthday wishes and gifts. After, he returns the favor with some of his famous poetry. This video contains 2 of his poems, one about Star Trek before the movies, one about it after. Both are clever and informative. He later does a Q n A which I will include in another video. Please excuse the poor videography...

While many believe he played the first Star Trek doctor, DeForest Kelley actually played the third. He followed John Hoyt's Dr. Phillip Boyse from the first Star Trek pilot, The Cage and Paul Fix's Dr. Mark Piper from Where No Man Has Gone Before, the second pilot. But it was DeForest Kelley’s portray of Dr. Leonard McCoy that has become iconic in popular culture. "Bones" was cantankerous, irritable, irascible, and even at times belligerent! But what would Captain Kirk or Mr. Spock be without Dr. McCoy? The character regularly questioned Kirk’s or Spock’s stance on a topic and made them think about the moral and ethical implications of their decisions. His was the most human voice on the show. The character is perhaps best remembered for the way he constantly needled Mr. Spock, maki...
