Forged Union: The Works of Stuart Fink Cincinnati artist Stuart Fink is best known as a sculptor whose large-scale public works can be found throughout the state of Ohio. A recent diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease has left him with tremors that limit his ability to create new works. But a chance meeting with a Columbus collector led to a partnership that renewed his creative spirit. States of America: Robert Beck/Robert Buck at the Pizzuti Collection This solo exhibit by New York-based artist Robert Buck investigates how we respond to the diverse social and cultural challenges in today’s world and often finds his source material in the detritus of American consumerism. We’ll take you inside the latest exhibit at the Pizzuti Collection (on view through Sept. 4, 2016), including a tour through the artist’s studio on the lower east side of Manhattan. Material Pulses at the Riffe Gallery Eight textile artists from around the globe investigate color, pattern, size and experimental quilt-making techniques in the latest exhibit at the Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe Gallery (on view through July 16, 2016). Curated by Ohio’s Nancy Crow, an internationally recognized quilt-maker, the exhibit explores the trends and techniques used in contemporary quilt-making. We’ll also visit the home studio of Cleveland artist Christine Mauersberger as she works on her 9-foot installation sculpture. ARTifacts: Traditional 19th Century Quilts Curator Becky Odom of the Ohio History Center shows us a selection of 19th-century quilts that were made by women to showcase their sewing skills and, in some cases, to attract a husband. In this periodic series, Broad & High delves into the seldom-seen archives of the Ohio History Center. With nearly 2 million items in its collections, not everything always gets to see the light of day. We go deep into the collections to shine a spotlight on some of our state’s hidden treasures.
